"Casidy!"
There it was again. That high pitched, irritating voice scraping at the
sweet, feathering imagines of Casidy's dream. The edge blurred, the
image fading.
"Casidy Shay Bendel!"
With a groan, Casidy's eyes slowly opened and reality washed over her.
The room was uncomfortably bright to her eyes. In defense, she drooped
her arms lazy over them and groaned again.
"Damn it, Casidy!" again the voice called. It was Casidy's mother.
For what she was hollering about, there was no clue. It seemed like the
woman was always yelling about something.
Casidy rolled onto her back and sat up, rubbing her eyes lightly.
"What?" she called, slight irritation tinging her voice.
Casidy's mother came through her bedroom door holding a white envelope
in her hand. She held it out. "Bought time you woke up," she said
bitterly, "Here, this came in the mail for you."
With a sigh, Casidy took the letter and her mother left without another
word. Crossing her legs, Casidy tore the top of the envelope and began
to read the letter within without looking at who had even sent it. She did
notice right away that it was handwriting in a very lovely script, though.
Dear Casidy Bendel,
It's a pleasure to finally get in contact with you. I know you do not know
me, but this letter is far more important than just a simple "hello how are
you". No, this letter will change your life forever.
For beginners, I am Justine Markway. I'm headmistress at the Kenhita
Gifted Boarding School, and you're aunt. I am writing you because I wish
for you to come to my school. Everything has already been set up for
you. Even you mother has been informed. Get your things ready for you
will be picked up tomorrow at 3:00pm. Be ready to go.
See you soon,
Headmistress (and Aunt) Markway
Baffled beyond believe, Casidy folded the letter and put it back in it's
envelope. "So vague," she whispered to herself as she started at
the postmark. There was no return address, just hers written in the same
fancy handwriting.
Washed in confusion, Casidy went down stairs to talk to her mother who
only confirmed what the letter had said and then ushered her back
upstairs to pack. Casidy did pack. However, her mind wasn't really
thinking about what she was doing, but about the letter. It just made no
sense.
