So far that had been a very good day. Lily had been swimming around and actually managed to find another of her kind. That was a very rare occasion as most of her kind were being killed due to the fishermen taking all the fish and even some of the merfolk. You see, the fisherman would fish the same schools of fish the mermaids were trying to get, so they would often get caught in the nets. And while most people were nice, or at least too stunned to react, and would just let the mermaids go, some would keep them and sell them on the black market. A few people even fished solely to get mermaids, though that was getting more and more rare as time went on.
Lily was a beautiful young woman. Her hair was as white as snow, and it was just a little past her shoulder blades. She had deep blue eyes that matched the ocean. Her tail was an odd aqua marine color, letting her blend in a bit. She had very nice curves, her waist small and her chest and hips flared just enough to be pleasant, but not disproportionately so. Her chest was never covered, well not unless her hair covered it. Now being a mermaid, this was completely normal and so she never even tried to cover up. She was raised to be proud of what you looked like. She did on the other hand, wear a gorgeous string of pearls and shells on her head and the same beaded in her hair. What else was she going to do with her time besides make herself look nice.
Now there were two secrets that mermaids held. The first being their blood was very powerful in man ways. If it was mixed in a spell, it would enhance it's effects ten fold. Now the humans didn't know this, mainly because they had no use for spells or potions. They were too engulfed in technology and the like. It was other creatures that mermaids had to look out for. The second secret they held were how they mated. No one other than mermaids knew this. If anyone knew, they would probably try to breed mermaids and use them for either their blood, or for monetary gain; like in the case of humans.
So here Lily was, swimming around, a very beautiful day outside. The skies were clear, the surf was fair, and all was well in the world. But she was feeling a little mischievous. Sometimes, when Lily was bored, she would find a ship full of sailors and let they catch a glimpse of her. Sometimes she would even put on a show for them, doing flips and waving. Then she would disappear, deep into the ocean depths where they couldn't reach her. They would all go home and tell their friends and family about her, but few would actually believe them. And so that's what Lily did. She swam about until she found a decent sized ship, poking her head just above the surface to scope it out and see if it was safe enough.
