Adam went through school anticipating the end of the day. His eyes were glued to the clock as he counted down the day minute by minute until that last shook bell rang. When that happened he flew out to the student parking lot to his car and drove home as fast as he could. He was excited, "Today is the day!" He repeated to himself as the car roared across the road.

When he reached his house he quickly parked and ran inside. He said hello to his mother quickly and ran upstairs to his room. He slammed the door behind him and sat down at his desk pulling out the large consol and head set. This was why he was so excited, this consol and head gear was his access to his favorite game, MechWars. It used cutting edge virtual reality technology. The head set contained sensors that sent signals and images to your brain that made you feel like you were actually in the game. You could feel the weight of each mech part, the heat of battle, and the pleasures of a female companion. He had been playing his game since freshman year so he was pretty hooked. He had built up a mech that had served him well. Not wanting to wait any longer he put on the headset and let his body go limp in his chair as his mind delved into the game.

Next thing he knew he was in the game at his usual start up point, his hangar. He walked over to the closet in his hangar and it brought up the inventory screen for his Avatar, Ryu. He made sure everything was in order before he left for the guild arena. He walked along the game area and saw the variety of users online right now, they were different kinds of people. Aliens, furries, and humans alike were on this game, imagination was the only limit. When he arrived at the arena he saw that there was a huddle of people and there seemed to be some shouting. When he got closer he saw what was causing it, guild rivalries. He saw the blue of his guild getting physical with the red of their rivals. He asked what had happened and it turns out that one of their rivals members was mouthing off and it caused a few of his friends to get mad and now he was caught up. The two crowds parted and the one who was boasting stepped forward. The avatar of the character had greased long red hair, he was skinny and tall wearing two shoulder pads with spikes, and nothing else on his torso. He had his chest puffed out and was shouting, "Ha I bet none of you could beat me! Even with one arm tied behind my back." Adam wasn't about to take that coming from that obnoxious asshole. He stepped forward and took the challenge.

They both stepped into the arena, Ryu coming first in his Lancelot Albion, the gold shining in the sunlight. His opponent stepped into the ring with a boxer mech The horn in the ring sounded and the fight began.

Ellana had waited for weeks, and finally it had arrived. Around two that afternoon the Fed-Ex man rang her doorbell and handed her the box. She tore it open and inside she found a console and headset identical to the one in her son’s bedroom. She couldn’t wait to try it out. She glanced at the clock and noted that her son would be home from school any moment. She knew that if he saw she was trying to play, her plan would never work. She put the console and headset back in the box and took it up to her bedroom.

She shut her bedroom door and headed back downstairs, just in time for Adam to rush in the door. She smiled at him, not that he noticed as he ran upstairs to be absorbed his video game. “Hey, hunny! I love you too!” She called out as he shut his door behind him. She knew she would not see him again until supper time. This was why she’d bought the game. Ever since she’d bought that game for him one Christmas, he had drifted farther and farther away. She rarely had enough time with him to do anything but eat, much less have a conversation. Finally she decided she had to do something. She had done her research on his game, MechWars and had decided that’s what she had to do to reconnect with her son.

Lana started up the stairs and peeked into her sons room to confirm that he was logged on. He was sitting on the chair limp with his headset on, so she closed his door and headed to her own room. After several minutes, she finally figured out how to set it up. She placed the console on her bedside table and sat down on her bed.”Okay. How am I going to do this?” She asked out loud. She finally decided on sitting up against the headboard of the bed. She situated herself comfortably and took a deep breath. “I can’t believe I’m doing this.” She said as she placed the headset on and almost instantly went limp, and just like that she was engulfed into a new world. She found herself looking into a mirror, only it wasn’t her. It was someone else. A woman’s voice welcomed her to the game and asked her for her name. “Uhm.. Kiara.” She answered timidly. She was then asked numerous questions about her looks and her history. In the end she had decided on a human form, honestly because she wasn’t familiar with the other forms available. “Are you ready to get started, Kiara.” The woman finally asked. “I think so.” She answered, staring at her new body in the mirror. She ran her fingers through her hair and was, for some reason, surprised when she could feel the strands of hair between her fingers. “Wow.” She admired out loud. The woman giggled. “This way, Miss.” She turned around as a door opened across the room, and a breeze floated through the room and again she was shocked as she felt it against her skin.

Finally the voice again drew her out of her amazement. “This way, please.” She nodded and started for the door. When she reached it and stepped out, she entered into a world beyond her belief. Now to find Adam.

When the bell sounded Ryu waited, the mech did not even flinch. His breathing was at a steady pace and hi grip on the controls was light. He watched as his opponent danced around the arena like Muhammad Ali, he even shouted, "I am the greatest!!" Ryu stood still not wanting to give in to his taunting. Finally his opponent had it with playing games and charged at the Albion, fists blazing at him like a machine gun. He reacted by pushing his feet down on the vertical thrusters and engaged the energy wings. He floated above him as he passed under him. He dashed to the opposite side if the arena and drew his twin swords, the grey blades turnig a crimson red as he activated them. His disengaged the energy wings and landed to the ground with a resounding thud. His opponent wheeled around and began to comically wind up a pinch by moving the mechs right arm in a windmill like motion. Seeing this as a challenge Ryu activate the land spinners and pressed onto the forward thrust pad in the cockpit. The Albion lurched forward and took off at a fast speed. As he drew near his opponent winded up faster and pulled the fist back as he drew closer and closer to him. Ryu readied his attack. When he was within range his opponent threw the punch. Ryu quickly side stepped but the blow still got him in the side so it sent him spinning. Ryu used this momentum to spin around back of his opponent. The Albion received heavy damage but it was intact enough to keep going. He used one sword to pierce through the chest of the mech and the other to slice the head off, it was over.

After he went took down his opponent they both went through the after battle game screens. With that battle done the keys went back to their hangers for repairs. When they both returned outside the arena the man who was boasting earlier left in a huff.

He only smiled as he left, "Serves you right." He went to go see his parts dealer for the one part he was missing for a new mech he had been working on for the past year. While on the way he saw a great looking red head pass by walking aimlessly. He knew the type. He walked next to her and smiled, "Going somewhere noob?"

Once Kiara stepped out of the room, the realization hit her. She was in a whole new world. She was standing on a street and watching as people rushed by. Well they weren't all people. Some were animal looking or alien looking creature. But still, everyone knew who they were and where they were going. Then a second realization hit her. She didn't belong here. She had no idea what she was doing here. This had all been a big mistake. Then she remembered. "Adam." She whispered to herself. She was doing this for him.

She started walking. She wasn't sure where she was going or what she'd find, but she was walking. She heard several people talking about some big tournament in the arena. They all used names and words she had no clue about. She kept walking until out of nowhere a man ran right into her. The force of it almost knocked her to the ground. She was surprised to find the breath knocked out of her and a twinge of pain running through her arm where the man had hit her. "I'm so sorry, miss! Are you okay?" The young man cried. "I- I'm fine." She choked in shock. "I so sorry, again. I would- but I'm running late." His eyes were concerned and anxious. Finally Kiara regained her composure. "It's alright. I'll be fine, thank you." She smiled. He nodded and offered her a quick smile before taking off down the street.

Kiara started walking again, but this time with a sense of wonder at everything. At every sound, every smell, every object, every breeze. It seemed out of nowhere that a handsome stranger fell into step beside her. She felt her cheeks redden slightly. "Is it that obvious? That I'm new I mean.." It was clear that it was that obvious. "I honestly have no idea what I'm doing." He cheeks again reddened slightly, and she placed a hand on her warmed cheek. It was amazing. She didn't know why, but she held out her hand to the stranger. "I'm Kiara."

Ryu only smiled when the new player reddened in the cheeks when he called her out on it. "Oh don't worry about it, new players are always easy to pick out amongst crowds." He walked in tandem with her as the programming took over the function of walking while he focused on the conversation at hand. He looked at her and saw the look of amazement in her eyes, the tell tale signs of a new player. She wasn't yet adjusted to the enhanced senses that he game provided yet and was taking in things as she came. Plus it looked like she didn't know where she was going. He stopped himself and her as well.

"Ok noobie let's see what you've got." He moved his left arm over and soon a series of glowing orange screens hovered above his arm. "Ok this," He pointed to the screens, "This is your omni-tool, it acts as a way of messaging other players, handling your transactions with shops around the world, manage your mech, as well as a feature you'll get when you get a higher level." With that said an orange orb appeared to the right of him. "This is Delta, my personal AI. You'll get one too when you get to level 35. Delta, give me a run down on the starting equipment the admins gave her." Delta acknowledged the command and scanned her. "My scans show that she currently has a GM 1 unit with a beam spray gun, a standard issue shield, and one beam saber." With that Ryu gave a small chuckle, "Man I forgot how dumbed down they made the gear. Come on I'll help you get some better stuff."

He motioned for her to follow as he led her to his parts dealer to help her sell that junk for better gear. "Oh and I'm Ryu by the way. Nice to meet you Kiara."

Kiara was amazed at how quickly the stranger had picked her out, but she soon realized how easy it must have been for him. He looked as if he knew what he was talking about, as if he was experienced. He had this air of confidence about him, that set the stage for all future interaction with him. "Oh.." She said softly and shortly. She was taken back by how forward he was, and when he stopped her, she got a good look at him for the first time. She had been right, he was was rather handsome. His very existence demanded her attention.

"O- Okay." She gaped as screens appeared above his arm. Her mind found it hard to wrap around the concept of such technology. She'd seen them in movies and on tv, but she'd never dream such a thing was possible. Of course she vaguely acknowledged that she was currently in a virtual reality video game that let you experience it through all of your senses. Kiara shook her head as she tried to absorb and comprehend everything this man was telling her, but he was using words that she didn't recognize, and served to confuse her even more. "What is a mech?" Was the first thing she chose to interject after he finished his quick rundown. "And a beam saber..?"

She tried not to seem too overwhelmed, but she was sure it appeared so. "Umm.. Ryu.. It's nice to meet you too.." She left and unsaid question mark as she tried to figure him out. He seemed nice enough, but..
