Rafe Harrington was the new owner of the large gothic-style manor that occupied the sole residence on Carlyle Lane near the outskirts of one of London's wealthy districts. He was the sole occupant of the now fable manor where the Miller family once resided, but they mysteriously wasted away over the course of a single month, the whole family stricken with some strange illness that slowly drained their health. It was a tragedy, but the blow was softened in the community by the news of a strange young man buying the large estate. Rafe, or Mr. Harrington was from the district area of Northumberland in Northern England, deep into the countryside, but he had spent the last five years in Egypt and rumors abounded about him. People who had seen him moving into the lonely estate saw a number of odd Egyptian artifacts being brought into his home. It was surely that whoever first managed to invite him to a gathering and got him to talk would have a party to remember, assuming he had interesting stories of exotic Egypt to share.

Rafe was mysterious and kept to himself. People rarely saw him go in or out of his home and no one else seemed to live there at all, no servants or footmen, no maids or stable hands. Rafe was hardly seen at all, or even encountered on the streets. But when one did encounter him, they were sure to notice the sharply dressed young man had bright green eyes, fair English skin, and shoulder length bright silvery hair, something truly unique for a young man in his twenties.

In London, south of Northumberland, there was a raging temper of a red head was drawing quite a crowd at the party she was invited too. Lady Resa Cranbury, stood there, dressed elegantly in a white dress that was laced with pink and black, her red hair wavy and let down. In one hand, she held a basket, while the other was waving about in the air in a dramatic flit. Her green eyes had a fire of pure hate towards the man that she was angrily yelling at. Her pale skin was slightly red, but mostly, the red was caught within her face.

“You DARE take liberties with MY person?” she yelled at him. “You, sir, are nothing but a dog. A low life human that preys on helpless women for his own sexual needs, I dare you to try ANYTHING with me. One touch, and I’ll have you put down like the dog you are.”
With that, her ladies in waiting and her left, leaving the man to his own biding. This wasn’t her usual self. Resa was more chipper and happy. She was constantly telling jokes and was very sarcastic from time to time, but this man had set her off by whistling at her from wine table. Disgusted with his performance, she thought it’d be clever to take him down a notch or two and certainly put him in his place.

“He thought he could take liberties with me?” she asked, still annoyed. Her ladies looked at her and sighed. She knew what was next and turned her back on them. “I know, I know… I’m almost 19 and in need of a husband. Care to say anything more?”

The sun was low in the sky and the streets were filled with the well-to-do who were walking about, making their way to plays or theaters to see the new projected silent films, or visiting friends and loved ones, or to restaurants to dine. As Resa and her entourage made her way along the street, past the winery and it's outdoor tables, they came upon a young man that looked rather lost. He was wearing a fine, stately suit of black with a black dress shirt beneath the coat to match, and a black bowler on his head. In his hand was a fine, long cane of white with a golden-looking jackal resting atop it with a trio of gems as it's eyes. One ruby, one sapphire, and one emerald on it's forehead. But what set him apart was the young man's silvery hair, so different than others.

The young man slowly turned towards the group, his eyes gleaming a bright green color, those captivating jewels gleaming in the dying sunlight. Rafe smiled softly at the girls, especially at Resa. "Excuse me...I'm new to London...do you think you could help me find a store that sells incense? I'm all out and I long for the scent of Egypt..."

The girls looked at him, each turning and exchanging glances at one another. The other two girls giggled with delight, while Resa shook her head. The poor man was lost and all they cared about was his looks? Sighing, she turned to her ladies and smirked. “I’ll take the man from here. You both can run along and go have your fun. Besides, it is getting late and home is in back in this direction for me.” She told them as she grabbed the man by the arm and dragged him down the street before either of the girls could protest about her current decision.

“Sorry about them,” Resa told the stranger as she managed to pull him away from her two idiot friends. As they came up to a small coffee shop, she let go of his arm. As she did so, she felt a feeling of desire wave off him, but shaking it off she looked up at him and smiled. “You said you were looking for incense?" She questioned, trying to remember if her memory served her right. “There happens to be a store just a block or two over that sells incense by the box.” She gave him a small soft smile. “Would you care if I joined you?”

Rafe smiled warmly at her, his eyes gleaming with an enrapturing light. "You are most kind, my lady. I would not mind the company at all." He started to walk down the street as she had directed him to. "As I said, I am new to London, though I am an Englishman. I'm originally from Northumberland, where the cityscape is something quite unheard of. But I've been living the past few years in Egypt, overseeing an expedition that I've been funding. Some rogue archaeologist believed a lost city to be in the middle of the desert, quite far from the Nile, and was quite intent upon finding it, and I saw fit to fund this little mad expedition, because my family has little except for time and money. I thought it to be a way to go to Egypt if nothing else, and I find that parts of me missed it, even after I returned to my homeland. So I am going to fill my manor with the scent of the Pharaohs and the gods."

He looked at he and chuckled lightly. "Forgive me, I am remiss. My name is Rafe...and I've moved into the lonely manor on Carlyle Lane."

“Well, Rafe, I am Resa. Pleasure to meet you, dear sir,” She gave a slight bow to him, in a sort of lady style, and then continued on with what she was saying. “I live not far away from the manor. Just a block or two away from my home; I live in the Cranbury Manor.” She told him as they walked towards the shop. “Egypt, you say?” She questioned, thinking it through in her mind. “My, you must miss it that much if you want to bring the smell back to life.” She teased lightly. “You must have many a story to tell from your adventures there. I would love to hear them sometime.”

She glanced towards the evening sky, realizing that it was still light out. “Perhaps, once we get your incense, we can go back to your manor and you can chat me up over tea?” She offered with a slight smile.

Rafe smiled softly at her and nodded slowly, tipping his head towards her in the slightest bow. "I would be honored to have such a lady in my household. I dare say that my house hasn't seen a woman since I've moved into it." As they stepped inside, he breathed deeply. The store carried incense and other exotic wares, including foreign teas. "Yes, I do miss Egypt. It is a mysterious and mystical land, with many tales, some true, some imaginary." He gave a soft chuckle. "Sometimes it's not so easy to tell the difference and it's easy to feel at times that it is a land that God turned His back upon. The desert his harsh during the day and during the night, and yet, life persists even there."
