This plot is a spinoff of the Johnny Depp film, "Finding Neverland", where he plays young J.M. Barrie, the famous playwright and creater of Peter Pan.
Where, however, did his inspiration for Peter come from..?

When James Barrie was 25 years old, he met a sick young widow and her 13/14 year old son Peter. Peter is sad and angry about his father's death; he and James bond strongly when the man shows him how to find peace in imagination, exploring backyard worlds of pirates, indians, fairies and ticking crocodiles; even replacing his father to some extent.
James Barrie falls deeply in love with Peter, and their physical relationship escalates higher and higher. Peter falls in love with him as well, but being very young, is unsure of how to go about things, and let's James lead the way. James brings him flowers and little presents and treats him like a lover, and its working.
His life has always been about imagination and pretending...can he believe that this relationship will actually work?
