This was not how Adrian had planned on spending his morning. He'd been shaken awake by his mother. This was something that rarely happened. Never in their history had a tribute been replaced by a male. All of the previous had been replaced by females. Now, he was being sent up to this cavern to replace his brat of a sister.

His brat of a sister that had ran away with a man from their village.

She was older than him. She should have taken this responsibility. Cecilia should have known that it would fall on him. There were no other girls her age, so of course it fell on him. Not that he was unlike a girl. He was shorter, his hair longer, and face and body rounder than most of the men his age in the village.

So they had sent him up there instead. This was the first time that there would be a male. Traditionally it was always female, and the dragon knew that too. So how would he react?

Adrian would just have to see. He pushed some auburn hair out of his green eyes as he approached the massive entrance, swallowing. He was wearing a simple outfit of fitted green pants and a large black shirt, more like a dress. This was the traditional outfit they sent their females out in, so this was what he would have to wear. Shame.

"Hello?"

Saviik lifted his head as the villager approached his cavern. He had sent down the message a few weeks ago that his last had passed away peacefully after a happy life with him, which wasn't a lie, although he had yet to find the one he truly wished to spend his life with, as a dragon could extend the life of another's to match his or her own, but it could only be done once and therefore he knew whoever got that privilege must be perfect. Nothing less would do.

He stood and walked over to the entrance, his wings unfurling slightly and then pulling tight against his body again, looking down at the new tribute. A male. He had never specified gender, of course, but a male would be much less willing to fill the dragon's needs, the reason he was looking for his other half in the first place and the reason he took payment in the form of humans to provide him with company. He was certainly an intimidating presence, with a sleek body covered in shining white scales that only seemed to brighten as he stepped into the winter sun. It would soon grow cold around this area at the top of the mountain and he looked down at the boy sent to him.

"It is a first that I have been sent a male rather than a female, but we will discuss this further inside. It will grow cold soon." he said, turning to lead the way inside, his long tail sliding on the floor behind him.

Adrian had never seen the dragon before. He didn't know what he'd been expecting, but that had definitely not been it. Not those scales, or that height or... Any of it. He hadn't expected any of it. So when he heard Saviik speak, the male had to stop himself from marveling at all of it.

He couldn't let it be seen that he was hesitant, or that he was frightened. He was representing his people who were slowly fading out of existence, at least they would be if they continued on this road. The harvests were bad, the cattle were dying. And now he wouldn't be there to help them. This is where he would reside.

"Yes Sir..." He didn't know what else to call the dragon as he stepped beside him and followed into the depths of the cavern. It was getting warmer. But he couldn't figure if that was because he was nearer to the dragon or it was the cavern.

"My name is Saviik. I am not a human, and while this takes some time to get used to and has in the past, dragons do not hold all of the formalities humans do. Respect and cooperation is all that I ask." he reached the end of the tunnel, which branched off further into spacious carved out rooms. One was clearly Saviik's, regal and with crystals jutting from the walls that glinted in the light of the torches, the smell of bonfire smoke hanging in the air.

"The other quarters belong to you - you are free to decorate them as you wish, or to come join me if the nights get cold, which they quite often do." he moved into a laying position, looking at Adrian. "Are you aware of why I request a human?"

It was a good thing that dragons did not have the same formalities as humans, because Adrian wasn't very good with human formalities anyway. Respect and cooperation. Those would be things that he would have to build upon. The male felt warmer already by the time he saw the torches, shivering a little as they stepped into Saviik's room. This was all far beyond what could even register. These crystals... What a wonderful place the last human had come to live in. And now it was his turn.

The male shook his head, glancing around the cavern still. Saviik did seem to have a lot of formalities, it was evident in the way he spoke. "Why do you request a human?" He asked, looking over the dragon with his words. The boy took a seat on a nearby rock.

"Companionship, in more ways than one." Saviik gave him a very telling look, his eyes flicking over Adrian's body. "I offer warmth, protection and if you allow yourself, happiness, as well as the safety of the village and in return you are my companion, in some ways a servant and in other ways a friend, or more than that."

"Seeing as dragons are a dying race, we must seek companionship with other creatures than dragons. I chose humans." he stretched out his wings slightly. "I find your race fascinating and on top of all else, quite inspiring, so you seemed the most logical choice and I haven't been disappointed yet."
