Fever of course always got stuck with the mundane. Even though she thought it was a seriously bad idea for her to be the one rescuing a lovely, adorable, mewing ball of fur from the highest branch of what seemed like the tallest tree in the whole danged city; here she was staring up at the creature. Her hands were already warming, if she didn't calm herself she'd end up turning the adorable fuzzball into a flaming fuzzball... which would be bunk for her reputation not mention her state of mind.
Sure she'd set countless items (and people) on fire with her inability to calm her raging emotions, something about burning up kittens scared the bejeebus out of her. Fever wished it would scare the fire out of her. "Think happy thoughts... think happy thoughts" she chanted, and then slowly she rose from the ground hovering in front of the kitten. This she could do with no problem, imagine yourself weightless and float.
"Hi little kitty" she whispered and moved herself in closer "aren't you a pretty thing" she cooed, as she closed her eyes tight for a moment trying to focus all of her thoughts on the adorable kitten rather than what she could do to the kitten. Fever could feel the heat in her hands fade, a smile stole across her lips. "I won't hurt you" Fever whispered gently as she reached out. The kitten must not have sensed any danger from her because it jumped right into her arms and nuzzled into her. If that didn't chase the fire out of Fever, then there probably wasn't much that would.
She lowered herself to the ground and handed the purring ball of cute in the arms of it's owner, who'd been watching Fever with obvious apprehension. "There you go! One kitten, safe and sound!"
"Thanks Fever!!!" the boy shouted as Fever floated high up above the city to continue her patrol of the city.
It was a quiet night, couples strolled hand in hand through the parks... the occasional bum wandered with their liquor bottles in brown paper bags and Fever would watch them, but they were mostly harmless. The cities busiest clubs filled to the brim and hummed with the electric music that pumped from speakers. Fever was envious of the people got to lead normal lives, whatever normal was.
Bored with her patrol Fever tucked her slim body into the C of the Carbon City Grand Hotel sign and watched the night passby... waiting for something, anything to happen; even if it was just another kitten in a tree.
