Gemma sat high in her carriage, her father ensured her safety with a plethora of men. The carriage was dark and they set out after sunset with no lanterns to guide them through the dark woods. It was safer that way she’d been informed. Sighing she slumped back in her seat and glared at her hand maiden. “I don’t see why I have to marry the prince, Genevieve is the older one.” She scoffed, her sister had decided to disgrace her family and show up pregnant on her betrothed’s door. Sure, Gemma wasn’t an angel but she hardly allowed a male to release inside her. She smirked, what her parents didn’t know wouldn’t hurt them. She didn’t care to not be a virgin, it wasn’t as expected of her and she could explain it away if need be.
The sudden stop of the carriage caused Gemma’s dark brown hair to fall forward over her shoulders; the dark green gown she wore hugged her body’s curves. The tiara she wore easily came off and she slid it on to her hand maidens’ head, as was the plan if they were stopped. She got down on the floor as the shouts and roars were heard around them. The sound of arrows flying through the air had her covering her ears. Moving to sit up she turned her head to speak to her maiden, covering her mouth to stifle her scream she saw the arrow caught in the girl’s chest and blood gurgling from her mouth. She wasn’t able to recover before the carriage door was ripped from its hinges. Gemma screamed her brown eyes going wide before she fainted.
