Prince Alviso listened as the cardinal finshed speaking. The meeting had gone well and all the preperations had been made. He had a twinge of uncertainty about the path he had embarked on. He was a loyal person but he knew that this was the only way. Unless he overthrew the king, the constant warfare that had ravaged so much of the country would never cease. He could faintly remember what life was before, and he wanted to return to it. The high taxes to pay for the armies and constant drafts had almost financially ruined him, leaving no other options but treason.
The cardinal finished speaking. Without any further discussion the men filed out of the room. The speacking was over and action was about to begin.
As the sun set over the skyline of Rome Prince Alviso made his way back to his palace. He was looking forward to tonights festivities. His servants and cooks had been preparing for several days and the break from the tedious work of plotting was welcome. He might even find some feminine company tonight.
