James was only five-foot-six inches tall, had somewhat-long blond hair, and green eyes. He was a very tiny boy, and probably didn't weight more than 110. He wore a regular white T-shirt with bluejeans and a black backpack that contained all his school work. A very ambitious kid, too; he was in many extra-curricular activities like Mathletes, Chess club, etc. He already had a couple of scholarships, as well.
He brought his new buddy home and convinced his parents to let him keep him. Luckily, he was already potty-trained and was an over-all affectionate dog. James named him Xerxes and had a lot of fun playing in the yard with him. Xerxes would let James use him as a pillow, Xerxes would sleep in the same bed with him, etc.
One day, James heard people talking about things like sleeping naked; it was a normal thing kids did at that age, and having such a problem fitting in, he figured, in skewed logic, that if he started doing the same thing he would be more like them, thus more accepted.
Later that night, James was getting ready for bed. He put his pajama pants on as usual, but stopped and took them off again, remembering what the boys had talked about. Something about it felt dirty, but he didn't care. He noticed that he had unplugged his alarm clock under his bed earlier so he bent down onto all fours and slid his head under the bed and started shuffling things around so he could reach the plug-in.
