Cadi gripped her coat closer to her chest as the wind picked up, wrapping around her in a cold embrace. The walk was short but with the cold wind, blowing at her it was a difficult walk. She was helping a friend out. Dressed in her best black slacks and white shirt, she wore her blonde hair up in a French twist. A server had backed out last minute and she was needed. The idea of spending her evening passing out champagne and hors d’oeuvres, while old rich men pinched her ass wasn’t appealing. Nevertheless, the money would help pay for books. College, she found, was expensive.
“I know, I know,” she said with a smile to the caterer, a good friend of her mother’s, “I’m a life saver… where can I help?” At 22, the curvy blonde could hold her own in almost any area. However, she always went about it in a polite and mannerly way. She didn’t like being told what to do and decided early on she’d want to manage her own business, she wasn’t sure what the business would be yet, but she knew that was what she wanted to do. Smiling brilliantly she heard the doorbell ring and knew the guests were arriving. What she didn’t expect was the younger crowd.
Gliding through the crowd her ass was left alone and she was grateful for that. The party was to celebrate the birthday of some well to do spoiled little princess. Thankfully, Cadi was kept busy when the girl was around; otherwise, the whining would have received eye rolls. She’d noticed a few guys from school but that was normal, the popular girls always got rooms full of men. She was almost done for the night when the birthday girl ran into Cadence as she was serving guests. Instead of apologizing, the girl went off and slapped her. Cadence shook her head and exited the room with grace, she wasn’t one to fight violence with violence and the insolence of the girl had her leaving the party with her dignity still intact. She cleaned up, bid her mother’s friend goodbye and headed for the door.
