[hope this is an ok start]
Shane opened the door to room 300 and looked around. The beginners Spanish class wasn't supposed to start for fifteen minutes, but there were already four other people in the room. He felt the knot in his stomach loosen slightly and walked over to the last row of desks, taking the second seat from the front. Taking off his shoulder bag, Shane took out a pen, notebook, and the assigned text book and workbook. A glance at his watch told him that class would start in thirteen minutes. He sighed.
Going back to school at the age of 43 was not Shane's idea. After working at a technical business for the last ten years, the company had decided to send some of their employees back to school for training in more foreign languages in an effort to branch out to foreign clients. Shane was fairly fluent in French, and his success with the language made him an ideal choice in the company's plan. So with a choice between Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and Japanese, he went with Spanish.
He raked a hand through his slightly grayed black hair and tried not to groan. Shane hadn't been to school in about twenty years, since he first graduated with a BA in business, so he was rather nervous. At least the desks were bigger than they had been when he was in school, because Shane didn't think he could've fit his large 6'5'' frame into the combination desk and chair if it had been any smaller.
A few more people entered. Shane took out his cellphone and switched it to vibrate before checking through his email messages.
