The Honda stalled twice,
the last morning she left him.
His fist hit the hood,
so petty to blame the car,
but he could never blame her.

Nothing journaly, no apologies, and no absences to report.

A car is a good subject
for verses of loss.

Clever! I enjoyed your response MM.

I wonder if I should write something journalistic in here. Fed my toads some meal worms today. Crickets tomorrow. Went to the gym. Nice work out. Crap, this sounds like a Facebook or Twitter update. Who know I could be this boring? Shhh. Rhetorical question! No answer needed ... or desired.

She once knew a mister named master,
a quick witted fellow who would sass her.
She admired his writing,
'twas oh so exciting,
but wished she could read it much faster.

Love your signature! And most of my poems are short, just little things I used to jot down. But for your kind words, I'll throw out a few.

Passion Invaded (5-7-5 Haiku, Contemporary Subject)

Passion invaded,
it conquered and enslaved me,
then came the divorce.

Questions of

Knowledge or intuition,
can it be both?
Chemistry or respect,
it can be both.
Decision or emotion,
it must be both.

Two Day Romance (Short Version)

We met in Utah,
shared two nights of joy.
I ached when you left.

Wedding Gift

Your mother sent a 1960s Mexican mirror
that hung by our bed,
framed by beaten silver, a little tarnished.
You would knot your tie mornings,
while I watched, pressed against you.
Only shards remain.

Simply What a Mother Is

Ring through brow and studded nose,
but also lips to kiss a child's woes,
through nursing bra, we spy a tattooed rose,
her five-inch heels and that thirteen inch
skirt lay piled in the closet now, but
when he fiercely tugs and she leans
close to whisper a sacred vow in tiny ear,
we know he gives no mind to spiky hair,
to him, she simply is what a mother is.

And finally,

Shakespeare's Juliet

You say he texts you thirty times an hour?
Don't think it means you're Shakespeare's Juliet.
Those games he plays are all about the power.
You say he texts you thirty times an hour?
Watch out or he will make your life go sour.
Love and trust should not treat you like a pet.
You say he texts you thirty times an hour?
Don't think it means you're Shakespeare's Juliet.

I watched Glee today. I've been aching to see it. Didn't quite live up to the quivering anticipation I had endowed it with, but truly enjoyed the Vogue video.

I remember seeing the pilot of Glee. It was all right, but I don't see what all the fuss has been about. Then again, I don't ever get to watch network TV live anymore, and thanks to digital broadcast, I can't tape it any longer, so perhaps I'll catch Season 1 on DVD off Netflix sometime.

Your poetry is lovely! I have a tendency to ramble, so if I don't have an artificial limit (like a limerick or a haiku structure, and haikus are easier as they don't have to rhyme), mine can just go on far too long. You seem to know when to stop, and that's an excellent thing.

MM,

It's always hard to predict what series or bit of television will interest a person. I almost always gravitate to the darker shows where crimes are being investigated, committed, or stopped. But I got a kick out of Glee's light hearted silliness last season. It may, for me, have turned out to be a one season show. The first episode of Season Two didn't pull at me strongly, but I'll decide after another show or two.

By the way, thank you for your kindness. I very much appreciate your words. Honestly, I think poetry tends to be very personal and it's a bit like looking at a piece of modern art, some people just see paint streaks on canvas and that's fine. I'm glad you saw a bit more. You mentioned the length. I've got some longer pieces, but who wants to do all that work of typing it into the computer. And, lol, you really don't want to read the emo-whine that constitutes my long version of two day romance.

I wrote a lot of poetry after I got out of a seven-year relationship, my first and only long-term relation ship. Sadly and curiously, happiness and contentment have shattered my poetry writing bent. It seems I am at my most creative when depressed and miserable =)

Jai

I found that as well! When I was depressed (over a woman, usually), I would pour things out. It's hard to get myself to write too much (I'm not counting RPs in this) when I'm not messed up somehow. When I do, it can be great, but momentum is difficult to maintain. When I'm shattered, the emotion itself is the momentum, and the writing seems like release. So I know just where you're coming from.

Poetry is subjective, I absolutely agree. But there's also skill in successfully expressing emotion with a few artfully chosen words. A person has to find whatever poetry works for them, but if you can glean even a bit of the writer's passion or pain from the few stanzas you read, then the poet has done well. And if you think the language is pretty, that's a bonus. I don't know; I was trained in prose, and poetry has always been a bit of a mystery to me. But yours is appealing to my taste, I can tell you that much, so thank you for sharing it with us.

While I was killing time in an Industry City office yesterday afternoon--an occupational hazard--
my eyes chanced to fall upon a recent edition of National Geographic Travel magazine,
which spoke to me in its own unique visual language,
telling me it would make a fine, bold antidote to my leg-kicking, finger-tapping boredom.

In the magazine, the writer used as a hook for a travel story, going through Music City trying to hawk song his ex-wife had written (or maybe he wrote it) and she sang and recorded it. It wasn't the focus of the story or even implied, but it seemed a romantic story line for an husband trying to win back his ex-wife. And I thought it would make a nice rift for a storyline. I also toyed with the idea of a romantic role play where the man manages to sell the demo or get a contract.

But then he has to convince his ex-wife to come out to whatever music city venue was important and start singing and writing together again. I'd probably have to come up with a nice back-story of why they broke up. Did he cheat? Has she moved on? Is there a rival? It's pure romantic drivel and probably too complicated to do in a role play. But I had fun toying with the idea in my mind and thought I would share it with you.

By the way, the italicized text isn't a poem, it's just an ungodly long sentence I wrote. It got so long that I started going back and looking for ways to shove more words into it, while still maintaining a semblance of grammar. At a certain point, I had the joy of knowing it was no longer in any way comprehensible, so I set it free to wander on its own.

Jai

Oh, great, now it's going to get into the sewers and breed with all the other released sentences, until we've got a human-eating infestation of super-long sentences that are unkillable by conventional copyediting. They'll have to bring in some Russian Literature expert to deal with the problem (in the movie, he'll be played by Michael Ironsides).

What? Why? Michael Ironsides can play an intellectual! Particularly now that he's older!

Lol, what hit my funny bone was our long-winded monstrosity of sentences breeding in the sewers. It also made me think the sewers below Washington D.C., must be the worst infested of all. As for Michael Ironside? He's Canadian. Of course he can play an intellectual.

Needles

Stainless shaft, beveled point
gleams nice, plastic wrapped,
some shudder at its look.
Damn this vice, can't exchange
think drastic, screw plastic
borrow, clean, inject it hot
bites, slides, just as easy
only after, you feel queasy.

First Kiss

He tugs you onto a gym floor where eighth grade fumbling
leads to white scuffed shoes and tangled limbs
and your glance falls everywhere but him.
Later, while waiting mom's ride home,
he presses you against the lockers
and you ache for that first kiss.

Last Night Goodbye

My hair on his chest
dances like a light spring rain,
one hand on his heart.
Our passion so sweetly aches.
I hold my tears; keep him safe.

Loved (An Acrostic)

Life for a needle,
only wanted that next fix,
vicious addiction
ever controlling him, but
Dad never gave up on him.

Anger

Swore he'd never leave,
but anger tore at his roots,
and left a cracked, empty pot.
If only I could take back
this ugly tongue's salted words.

More poetry I used to write and publish on another site under L&T. Life moves on.

Silly Romantic Plots,

1. An emo princess who flees her wedding in an Elizabeth Emanuel dress and black combat boots runs into her ex-fiancé’s brother. He reluctantly agrees to put her up for a few days; then he decides to keep her.

2. After living together for five years, a would-be song writer and small-venue musician marry. About the time, the best man and maid of honor witness the wedding certificate, one learns that the other cheated on him or her about three years ago. A year later, after the divorce, the one who cheated has gone to whatever is the musical capital of the type of music they play and spent weeks knocking on doors until he manages to score a major recording contract for the pair. It comes out after they get back together (strictly for the purpose of the recording contract), the “cheater” is intent on using this as an opportunity to get back with his or her true love. In the end, it works.

My ability to play and post is going to be limited today and perhaps a bit tomorrow. Work is calling my name very strongly and I'm trying to finish up a lot of projects before flying to San Francisco for the weekend.

Went for a walk and took my camera.

I survived my Thursday night work party. I ended up falling into bed sometime after 3:00 a.m. and got up at 6:00 a.m. and worked until after noon. Ended up taking a later flight to SF. You have to love bosses who fly to Las Vegan and leave you to clean up for them. Sigh, I can't complain, he's my uncle.

But I'm now catching up on my posts. Got a few done and working on more. My apologies for the delay.

My Replies are Slow Right Now. I'm back from San Francisco and my slow responses are stemming from the work I had last week. Lol, often, I do about as much work as a high level SEC official surfing porn 8 hours a day, but this is one of the exceptions. Hopefully, this will be my last day of playing catch up for things that weren't on my list of things to do.
