Character Name: Asterote Alttaire; commonly referred to A.T. or Aster, she never really offers her real name to anyone.
Age: 22 Years
Race: Godling, possessed by a certain deity, which one unknown as of yet.
Eye Color: A deep blue, sometimes changing into a dark stormy grey.
Hair Color & Type: A dark black that shimmers and glint brown in the sunlight.
Hobbies: She loves to travel and explore her surroundings, looking for places where she’s never been before. She’s also been casually looking for an answer about what exactly she was, seeing as both her parents were human when she was obviously not normal. Mythology and folklore seems to come natural to her, but even with all of her luck she’s never even stumbled across any hint of how she can do what she does. Another pastime she loves is partying and having a healthy night life. Enjoying her time has always been a first priority for her.
Weapons/Powers: Rather tricky there. She has no real weapons that she’s trained with; she’s never needed to physically defend herself due to her abilities. Through physical contact she’s able to deplete a person’s luck build up and use it for herself, even transfer it other people or intimate objects. She’s even able to manipulate someone’s bad luck.
Personality/Vices: Asterote is very realistic and energetic most of the time. Although her energy and acute attention can be traced back to the coffee beans that she always seems to be using as a tasty treat, almost like tic tacs or a stick of gum. Generally nothing can really irritate or anger her, but when the line is crossed she’s definitely not above getting even. And when that happens, Asterote turns into a fierce force to be reckoned with especially if she’s angry enough to tweak with someone’s bad luck.
She also likes to go out and have a fun time, partying comes natural for her. Pleasant and friendly with strangers or new people, she does like to mingle to a certain harmless point, but Asterote doesn’t let others get too close to her. When someone takes an interest in her, she’s wary and untrusting. Drinking however, doesn’t agree with her. She gets pretty stupid when she drinks, which is why she tries to avoid it like a plague.
Physical Appearance: Standing five feet and 4 inches, Asterote generally slouches a lot without thinking, it’s natural for her. Her dark hair is usually up in a pony tail or pulled back in a French braid to keep her hair out of her face. Only a very rare occasion, or when she’s by herself, does she wear her hair down loose. Never does she wear makeup; it was never appealing to her.
When it came to clothes, she did always favor large and oversized coats, along with anything that would be comfy to wear. With a few picky tastes here and there, vibrant colors as opposed to dull, form fitting rather than loose and baggy. Shorts and tank tops are favorites for her, sun dresses and easy to move in clothes are also.
Physically, she’s always been a little on the thin side, especially because she doesn’t eat much and it’s not because of any eating disorder. With a medium bust, a B/C cup, relatively pale skin, and round hips the best body part that Asterote had the most confidence in is her long and shapely legs. Heels were never really needed by her either.
Distinctive Markings: She has small and sharp fangs on both the top and bottom of rows of teeth, along with freckles that are always more prominent in the sun.
Background Info: Asterote had a rather hard childhood and her parents were the furthest thing from caring. Her father was a selfish, abusive drunk that absolutely that fact that she was born and her mother was the exact same way. Since the day she was born, their lives went down the drain with horrible luck. Her mother had lost her school scholarship due to a tiny technicality and couldn’t seem to find a decent job other than a shitty waitressing position at a hole-in the wall bar. Needless to say her morals and self respect declined at a dramatic rate and her father was not o lucky.
Her father had been a shining star of the police, a decorated officer and the pride of his station. He was beloved, but the fateful day after Asterote was born, he decided to leave the hospital and go to work. Not even an hour into his shift, the whole precinct was called out on a bank robbery. His orders were to simple, come up the side of the bank in the alley and storm the robber through the back while the front cops kept his attention. The man was armed, and threatening the hostages inside but the guy’s demands were entirely too high and impossible to meet.
Ten feet from the bank’s side door, it sprang open and without thinking Asterote’s father lifted his gun and pulled the trigger until the clip was empty. The last thing he remembered seeing was the five year old boy staring at him with wide eyes, the robber behind him raising his gun, and the loud shot that rung in his ears.
Her father woke up days later in a hospital, discharged for killing a child and allowing the criminal to get away. After that, nobody would hire him and due to his gunshot wound, he went on disability and never bothered getting off of it. Alcohol became her parent’s new bonding agent and soon Asterote wasn’t their little miracle anymore, she was their curse.
Around the age of five, Asterote was randomly picked by a private school to attend with all of her expenses paid for free by a sponsor. During the week, she’d stay in the dorm and on weekends she’d be at home. During the weekends at first, her parents tried to be happy for their daughter, but it quickly turned into jealousy and spite. Sooner than later, they hated their daughter with every fiber of their being. Whenever she was around, unfortunate thing would always happen to them. She was getting a great start at life, with what seemed like unlimited opportunities.
During the weekends they’d try and make her life a living hell. Anywhere from locking her away in her room with a jug of water and some stale bread to trashing the house and leaving it completely disgusting and thrashed and forcing her to clean up after them. Every weekend was horrible for her, especially when her parents got plastered together, which was more often than not. Thankfully, she had found the perfect hiding spot in her room; the attic. While intoxicated her parents would stumble around the house, looking for her to take out their frustrations and insecurities she would be safely curled up above their heads in a blanket and pillow nest.
When she got older, the fear for telling on her parents faded, and soon she worked out a way to stay at the private school on the weekends by taking more electives, joining clubs and claiming that she needed to study more. She wouldn’t visit home for weeks on end, but when she did try to visit on a certain Christmas; they would pitch such a fit, throw things at her and deny her even from entering their home. After that she stuck to her studies, until she started to stand out in school.
Being at school year round had started to take its toll. Her fellow students had started to have no luck, some even having really bad luck. It’s when she started to notice how her being around people affected them, and how only she seemed lucky. So while she had her suspicions, Asterote had decided to test her theory. One of her classmates, a girl named Claire Patterson, had been suddenly orphaned by her financially successful parents and was awaiting the life insurance check from the lawyer. After confronting Claire and wishing her well, giving her a warm hug and smile, Claire almost immediately got a phone call from the insurance company denying that she was getting any money due to a technicality, along with a call from the bank that her parent’s bank assists were seized by their company.
Watching Claire burst into tears and broke down in front of her, caused Asterote to fill up with guilt. And the moment she hoped Claire would catch a lucky break, the girl did. It was that day she figured out her control and manipulation over a person’s luck, and while in school she practiced and learned how to sense a person’s build up of it.
At age sixteen Asterote got a letter from her parent, asking her to completely forget that they were blood related. They had given birth to another baby girl and moved to a different address so that she wouldn’t be able to find them. But she didn’t have to be told twice, instead of finishing school she dropped out and started to travel around. Having luck on her side opened up all possibilities for her, and she’s just been having fun in life.
