Quinn ran a hand through his red hair as he slowly made his way back home. He had stayed rather late at school, much later than he had planned to. He had been stuck in the library working on a damned science project....it wasn't that he didn't like science...he was something of a nerd really, but...well....geology wasn't his favourite type of science by a long shot. He was much more into astronomy, physics, computers, the Science Fictiony kind of thing. Unfortunately, he couldn't pick and choose his projects in school, so was stuck researching a subject he had little to no interest in for way too many hours after classes had finished. The buses had stopped running, his parents were working late so couldn't give him a ride and he didn't have any friends who owned a car. And so he was now stuck walking home, and wouldn't you know it, his parents had bought the house about the furthest from the school it was possible to get, just outside of town. "Geez....didn't they think to move closer when they had kids...?" The boy muttered to himself before he slowly looked up at the night sky.

For once the stars were out, no clouds obscuring the view. For a moment Quinn just stopped and looked up, smiling slightly to himself as he mentally checked off the constellations that he could see, though as he looked at one he blinked. One of the stars seemed....brighter than usual. Then it....moved? "Huh? A plane....?" He blinked as he watched the moving light, it seemed to be coming across the sky, but also coming lower. "That's weird....there isn't an airport or anything around here...." He raised an eyebrow, then gasped as he saw the thing getting much...much closer. It was coming...towards him?! "Oh hell!" The boy started scrambling around, then dashed off to the side of the road, yelping as a loud noise soared over him, passing the road and then slamming into the field nearby, kicking up a lot of dust, smoke and mud.

"Huh....?" Slowly Quinn looked up, blinking. "A meteorite....? They normally burn up...never heard of one doing this much damage..." He stood up, then hopped the fence, making his way towards the crater. "What in the world was that?" Slowly Quinn got on his knees at the edge of the crater, then slowly leaned over, waving his hand to clear the smoke as he looked down into the crater.

Tiamos had been minding her own business exploring a little solar system in the Milky Way Galaxy before a wayward satellite had knocked her out of orbit. She had been taking readings of a small blue planet. I had been a while since she had seen a planet with so much liquid water in this part of the universe. On top of that it appeared to be populated, by what she was not sure. Tiamos was a simple cosmos cataloguer. She travelled the darkness of space to record stars, planets, and any hunk of rock she could find. She was not however an explorer. They came after her to go down on the surface of any hospitable looking planet to gather samples and discover whatever life existed on or beneath the surface. So when Tiamos’s little cruiser had been struck she never stood a chance of landing the thing. It was only built for space ports not being sucked into the gravitational pull of a heavenly body. All she could do was brace for impact and hope nothing too important broke.

Her ship managed to survive the thick atmosphere and crashed into solid ground. “Computer: analysis.” She barked rubbing the back of her head which had slammed back into her chair on impact.

“Ship 82% intact, damage minimal.”

“Minimal. Well that’s great.” She unfastened her harness and went to the back half of her small ship to gather some equipment. She grabbed a helmet and a pressurized suit. She put on the suit, the white material gripping her body tightly with enough give to allow air to move through it“Computer: Atmosphere analysis.”

“Atmosphere composition 78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.039% carbon dioxide, no toxins found.”

“No toxins?” She set the helmet aside. “That’s pretty lucky. What’s the gravity?”

“Gravity 9.80665 m/s^2.”

“That much for such a little planet?” She frowned. Her ships gravity was not set that high. That would take a bit of getting used to.

“Open the hatch.” A loud hiss filled the area as her craft depressurized. She stepped out finding herself in a large crater or what appeared to be brown dirt. Suddenly her hearts began to race. She had never been on a pre-colonized planet before. She walked a few meters away from her ship looking up at the sky. It was dark black filled with specks of light. “Beautiful.”

Quinn squeaked and moved backover when he heard a hiss from the bottom of the crater, then thought he saw some movement through all of the dust and smoke. Had to be his imagination....surely. There couldn't possibly be something...moving...down there. Couldn't be....right? The smoke continued to clear, then Quinn slowly leaned over the edge of the crater again, gasping loudly at what he saw. First he saw the woman, dressed in some strange kind of suit....skintight suit....though what else he saw was enough to draw even his attention away from that, the sight of some kind of....ship? His first thought was that perhaps this was some kind of module from the International Space Station that had crashed, but he'd seen plenty of photo's of it and none of them looked like this. This was definately some kind of....ship...and it most definately wasn't terrestrial in origin. Even if it had been some top secret space shuttle, it wouldn't have looked this advanced. His vision moved back to the figure as she looked up at the sky, seemingly mesmerized by the stars. Well he could certainly understand that...he'd lost himself for hours in those stars. Still, this wasn't the time for that. There were more important things to be looking at....down there, right infront of him...an alien. A real life alien!

"Um...h-hello?" Quinn leaned a little further over the edge of the crater. He figured she wouldn't understand a word he said, but at least the noise might draw attention. It was only after he made the noise that he mentally slapped himself. How did he know she was friendly? She might shoot him the second she noticed him! Well....too late to do anything about it now. "H-hi there..." He laughed nervously, raising a hand to wave slightly. Unfortunately, the edge of the crater was rather unstable, and all of his weight on one hand caused the ground to crumble beneath it, throwing the boy off balance and tumbling down the edge of the crater, rolling to a stop right infront of the girl. Quinn jumped up quickly, dusting himself down and laughing. *Way to go Quinn....first human contact with an alien and you make a total ass of yourself...* "I...I'm Quinn" He pointed to himself. "Quinn" He smiled, then blinked as he heard a far off noise....helicopters? Oh hell....he knew what that meant. The government...for better or worse they were on their way. "Ah! W-we gotta go!" He pointed to the top of the crater, then waved for her to follow. "Come on! We have to get out of here! Not safe!"

The woman froze hearing a soft sound. Was it an animal, or no I was some kind of voice though the pitch was odd. She looked to the lip of the crater, her orange eyes well adapted to darkness saw a man, or at least what appeared to be one peaking over the edge. Someone else was stranded here? That was impossible, Tiamos had been the only observer in this section of the Milky Way, yet his familiarity with her kind was uncanny. She touched a small box on her wrist and said “Computer: Laser” The box appeared to melt as the tiny nanobots it was constructed of reconfigured into a lightly curled rod, both ends rounding into spheres. A light charge pulsed between them. This was hardly a weapon despite the electricity. It functioned much like a tazer but could shoot bolts of electricity up to a few meters away. She held the curved middle in her palm waiting for the “man” to get closer.

Closer he came though it seemed to be accidental as he tumbled over himself down the side of the crater. Tiamos stood her ground, keeping the weapon at her side in case her made any sudden movements. He jumped up quickly producing a sound that reminded her of laughter and began speaking. “Louin?” She tried to repeat the sound as he did but her language did not possess that harsh sounding Q.

Tiamos heard a sound, almost like the beating wings of giant birds. As it grew louder this Louin person began to grow frantic gesturing wildly at the top of the crater. Perhaps this large bird was an avid predator, she thought. Being eaten was not in her plans at the moment. Still not being able to understand this stranger was an issue. “Hold still.” She said pressing a pointer finger to his forehead to calm him down as if he was a youngling. “Computer: Translator.” The weapon dissolved, the nanites traveling up her arm, and over her shoulder appearing as a thin appendage. They covered her ear, latched inside and connecting to the auditory part of her brain. A few ninates had remained in her hand forming a tiny silver ball. Holding it carefully between her fingers she pressed it against his lips forcing it into his mouth. Whether he swallowed or not the nanites would move to wherever his brain was located and download his auditory memory and transfer it back to the link connected to her brain. It only took a brief second before she had everything she needed. “Hello.” She said in her newly learned tongue. “What exactly are you freaking out about?” The bird sound was getting louder. “Should I be worried about that sound?”

Quinn had been so busy tumbling down the crater he didn't notice the odd device at her arm shifting and changing. As far as he was concerned it was the same as always. When he spoke she just looked at him strangely....ok so she didn't understand him...he'd expected that much. Before he could try again to indicate they needed to leave however, she said something, then....poked him? He did stop and calm down, but it was more out of confusion than anything else, the bewildered expression on his face making at least that much obvious. Moments later he watched as something on her arm dissolved, then a metalic almost liquid like substance travelled up her arm, then seemed to go inside her ear. He figured it must have been some kind of translator, and he opened his mouth to speak once again, only to have some small ball placed into his mouth. "MMF!" He tried to spit out whatever it was, but the ball dissolved, he felt liquid moving around his mouth, then a strange tingling sensation travelling up behind his nose, behind his eyes, then a very odd sensation in his head, before it settled and he felt normal again. Seconds later, he heard her saying 'Hello', seemingly in perfect english!

"I...you can understand....I can understand you...?" He blinked, momentarily confused and forgetting about what he had been panicking about earlier, only to be reminded when she mentioned the sound. "Ah! Yes! Yes we should definately be worried! That's probably the government! If they catch us here they'll definately take us in! You'll probably be taken to some lab and I'll probably be thrown in some prison for the rest of my life! C-come on! I've read about these government coverups and I'm definately not letting us get caught up in it!" He motioned for her to follow again. "C-come on, my house isn't too far from here, we can hide out there!" Quinn turned to the edge of the crater, then started to slowly and carefully climb up. The ground was still rather....fragile, and if he tried to rush he would only keep slipping back down.
