Somewheeeeere over the raaainbow!
The morning was pleasant. It was warm and only a few wispy clouds were in the sky. It was warm and and it was the weekend. That was a recipe for a good day. A boy with messy blonde hair was hidden under his blankets. His name was Isaac Thorn. He was a college student. His dorm room was empty at the moment. His roomate must be out with his girlfriend. Isaac rolled over in bed. The sunlight poked through the curtains right onto his face. It was a curse, as if the room itself didn't want him sleeping past noon. Ah well. Isaac yawned and slipped outta bed and onto the floor. It was going to be a slow day.
Isaac stumbled into the bathroom and took his morning leak while decided what he was going to do. He didn't have anything to do really. What person did on a saturday? He stared at himself in the mirror. His hair was the kind that always looked messy. Unless you put insane amounts of gel in it. No joke, he'd have to dunk his head in a tub of roofing sealant. But since he had niether the will or budget, he just let it do it's own thing. He brushed his teeth and noted how bad the toothpaste tasted. For something that left your breath minty and fresh, it tasted like a bellybutton. He spit it out and a loud thump came from the next dorm over. Isaac raised an eyebrow. That was odd. Another bump came, this time with a yell. Isaac rolled his eyes. Who could be doing such a thing this early in the morning? Unless his neighbor was with a girl, that made sense. Isaac chuckled at his own vulgar reference.
He washed his face and began dressing. The nineteen year old was very lazy when it came to dressing himself. He picked up a pair of black jeans off the floor and slipped them on. He pulled a fresh white t-shirt out of his dresser and slipped it on. He thought about going to get something to eat, but instead sat on his bed and turned on the T.V. still thinking about what he was going to do. The boy stood at 5' 9" and was physically fit, but not very muscular. If he got into a fight he would probably lose, but he could easily outrun his assailant anyway. He flipped through the channels as the bumping from next door continued. He stopped on spongebob and turned up the volume to drown out the thumping.

Isaac finished watching spongebob. The banging was still going on. "Ok, seriously." Isaac said. This guy must have the most stamina ever. Isaac jumped up off his bed and slipped on his shoes without tying them. He walked out of his dorm room and knocked on his neighbors door. No answer. He knocked again. This time a loud slam was his answer. Isaac jumped back. What was this guy's game? Isaac pressed his ear up against the door. He was moaning. Oh god. "Listen buddy. Don't want to spoil your fun, but you need to quiet d..." Isaac trailed off as he looked at the floor. A puddle of blood was seeping out from under the door. "Holy shit!" Isaac stumbled back into another student's door. What the hell was happening? Isaac stood up and tried to open to door. Something heavy was against it. "Hey! Are you ok?" he asked, suddenly worried. What the fuck had he been doing that made him bleed?

[[Pfft, it's ok. I failed harder. I'm finally getting sleepy.]]

Isaac's hazel eys widened and his gut churned at the sight of the dead body. Holy crap. This girl was dead! No, really. This chick was the source of the blood. Isaac's already disturbed stomach became all the more compromised as the boy appeared in front of him. Dripping from his mouth was this girl's flesh. There was no other way you could look at it. There was something wrong with his eyes. He didn't have time to think about it though. The girl who helped him knock down the door was as bad as he was. Though she acted faster and pulled him out of the room. He was going to be sick. He grabbed his stomach fully expecting to blow chunks. The smell had been worse than eveything.

"We have to call them." Isaac said, in response to her question. Isaac tried to fish his cellphone out of his pants. He hadn't grabbed it. He ran back to him room. Instead of trying to bid it lost in his bed somewhere he used the room phone. Quickly dailing 9-1-1 he waited for a response.
"We're sorry but all of our lines are currently unavailable. Please wait until an operator becomes free." A recorded female voice. Isaac let out a wry laugh. No way. He dailed again. "There's no fucking way this is happening." he said. "Don't do this to me."
Same message. Isaac threw the phone down in frustation. He grabbed his wallet off the table and ran back into the hall.

"Every line is busy." he yelled at the girl he just met. "We have to find a teacher." They were the only authorities they could possibly get a hold of now. It was then when Isaac became painfully aware that there was screaming in the building. What was going on? Why was the whole school is a panic? He looked at the girl for some sort af answer.

This girl didn't keep her composure well. Though who was he to talk? He was freaking out just as bad. He was having an 'oh god oh god' moment for sure. He ran his hands through his hair. Exaclty what was supposed to do? Isaac was about to say something when she grabbed him by the wrist and started pulling him along. Where were they going? did she even know? Despite that he followed along getting pulled left and right. As soon as they reached the campus, the rest of Isaac's resolve was out the door. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. The girl yelled something and he just barely caught it. She was right. Every one of thier eyes were blank. He saw a few people he knew littered among the dead and dying.

While they were running he noticed her begin to hyperventilate. Even he was getting a little winded. This was getting them nowhere. Isaac grabbed her arm like she was doing and gradually tried to slow her down. "We have to get out of here. Find some place to hide and wait!" he yelled at her. Although Isaac had no idea how to go about doing that. Campus seemed like a bad place to be hiding.

Isaac looked on the ground and saw his roomate. That was the final straw. He wrenched free of the girl's grip and knelt over to throw up. After he was done he wiped his mouth. Dear god. Wait, his roomate has a car! Isaac crawled forward and started going through his pockets to get his keys.

Isaac felt in every pocket he could think of. He reaching inside his left pocket by leaning over him when he heard the girl yell. There was a loud crack and blood splattered all over his face. Another crack and she was pounding his head into the concrete. Isaac looked on in horror. What was he seeing? What were these things and was this alright? As she finished he felt sick again. He looked at her, they were both covered in blood. He didn't have anything to say. What could you say really? He sat back up and found the key's finally. "These will get us out of here." he said to her. He stood up, eyeing her for a second. Who would have thought such a pretty girl could be such a psychopath? Or maybe she just panicked. Isaac pointed toward the parking lot and began running. There were more of them eveywhere but they were slow.

Isaac got to his friend's car. It was a crappy beat up blue impala. He fit the keys in the door, yelling for her to hurry up and get in. He stopped inside. What if there were other people in there? What if they were still alive? Would they be abandoning them? No, he couldn't think about that now, he had to get out of here. He put the keys in the ignition and turned. It didn't start. He tried again. What the hell? Why was today the worst day ever?! One last time... he did it. The engine roared to life. It sounded like crap. That's when Isaac remembered he never learned how to drive a standard trasmission. "Do you know how to drive?" he asked. Isaac might be able to get them out of there, but there wasn't going to be any sort of fancy moves with the crappy way he drove a standard.

Relieved that she did indeed know how to drive a standard he switched places and put his head in his hands. What the hell was going on? Actually the better question is what were they going to do about it. The girl asked about going to the police. Isaac didn't have an answer. It seemed like the police were having just as much of a bad time. Isaac's family didn't live in this town. There was no point in him staying from what he could see. But they couldn't be the only one's alive. Isaac looked out the window, from a moving car they looked less threatening. But thier eyes... thier whole face was creepy. Whie eyes, blood dripping from thier mouths, thier faces still twisted into the looks of pain they had when they died. he heard the girl say something about finding out what was going on. Isaac didn't want that. Let the fucking government do that. He wanted to find some place and stay there until this whole thing was over. "I don't know..." he said. He was about to protest but Isaac didn't really have anywhere to go. But how could they find out what they were supposed to do? "Where are we going? The police station's probably too busy, and we hve no idea where to start looking to find out what's going on."

Isaac pulled his head out of his hands, his messy hair looking a little more frazzled than usual. He looked at his partner. Why had he never seen her before? If she went to his school wouldn't it make sense that he would have talked to her once? Expecially since she was so pretty. Isaac shook his head. That wasn't what he should be thinking about right now. Isaac wiped the blood off of his face. It was splattered everywhere and all it did was smear, so he used his shirt. White was the wrong color to pick today.

Isaac listened to her. Everything she said had merit, based on what they've seen anyway. But that one part bugged him. Overnight? It seemed unlikely that it happened in one night. There would have been signs and evacuation notices. This spread way too fast. If they indeed did need living flesh in order to do this... it seemed impossible that they only learned all of this now. Shouldn't something have been playing on the T.V. instead of fucking spongebob? It's almost like someone made it happen. It's like they made sure no one knew about it. Isaac looked out his window. A better car? He had no answers, it had been hard enough to get this one. Besides what kind of car was she assuming exactly? He looked at her shaking hands. He felt the same way, still sick to his stomach. Isaac had always had a weak stomach for blood.

"You're right. Think safe places... where would you go?" Isaac said. But when he thought about it it didn't help. All the safe places are where people would flock to. They would be zombie feeding zones, and if not they would be too crowded anyway. If they could find a warehouse or storeroom that they could lock from the inside they would be safe. "Do you know any places where they store things?" he asked. But as soon as he did he felt stupid. Without water they would die in a few days. Crap. What was going on?

Isaac started going through the compartments of the car. If he could just find one thing that was useful it would be worth it. As she started talking Isaac had try his best to not tune her out. It wasn't that he was trying to be mean, but frankly she reminded him of his sister. He'd learned to tune his sister out a long time ago. She didn't look anything like his sister, she didn't even act like her. It was just her voice. Isaac kept thinking about where to get some supplies when he felt the car jerk. Christ! Couldn't this chick keep her eyes on the road? Isaac had to slow down, he was getting mad. this girl didn't do anything wrong. She saved him in fact, even if it did cover him in blood.

Isaac thought this was a good time to put his seatbelt on. as he did so he said, "Listen. No matter where we go the fact remains that we need food and water. We've got to stop someplace." Isaac turned on the radio. He played with the switches, getting only static but he kept trying. How annoying was this? Actually annoying wasn't the word for it. It was somewhere between horrifying and 'what the fuck'.

Isaac sighed silently as she slapped the radio off. She was losing it. Granted, Isaac felt like his brain was trying to claw it's way out of his head too, but he could at least act like he was calm. Ugh, we was doing it again. He was criticizing people for no good reason. Isaac stopped fiddling with the compartments of the car and threw himself back in his seat with frustration. There wasn't one fucking useful thing here! Calm, just needed to be calm. "Yeah, you're right. Let's start heading out of town. We'll hit a gas station along the way." he said. With the plan figured out Isaac started bumping his head against the glass. Over, and over, and over, and over. Maybe it was his way of thinking, or possibly giving him something to think about. you know, other than the zombies that crowded the street. He needed a place where he could think logically about everything.

"Just don't hit anything and I think we'll make it out of here in one piece." he told her. It then occoured to him that he never asked her name. It seemed weird, but frankly he didn't care. It was hard to care about anything at the moment. Was it isolated to this area? Or was it worldwide. It sounded cliche, but there were so many questions that as of now were unanswered. "Fucking town..."

She was right. it made Isaac feel bad. But there were times that called for being a little brave. Still, he could respect that she was scared and he stopped pounding his head against the window. "I'm sorry. I just need time to think. This is alot to take in at once." he said, still not looking at her. He stared at the ground as it whipped by. Occasionally something bloody would come into view, but it was too fast to see. It was a blessing really, the last thing he wanted to see was more blood. This reality sucked. He began hitting his head against the window again. Think, think, think. "Isn't there a ranch around here somewhere? Like a petting zoo about ten miles out of town? Do you think that would be safe?" he asked. It seemed like a good idea, granted that the animals might be loose. Which truthfully was an amusing thought, in a sick kinda way. To escape the zombie infested town then get torn apart by a bear, or monkey, or a fucking zebra.

Isaac put down the visor to protect his eyes from the sun. "So, what's your name?" he asked. If they were going o be partners in crime then he better know what to call her. 'You' and 'hey' only worked for so long.
