The throne room was a thing of beauty.
Gold and red were everywhere. Gold and red cloth hung from every wall, gold and red flags hung from the ceiling. The assembled Kasharians all wore gold and red, although the visiting foreign dignitaries all wore the colors of their respective nations.
The throne was red and gold too, a high backed gilded chair with a red cushion. In had replaced Nelshazzar's old, gnarled throne of ebony wood, with eh spikes and skulls. It's replacement had been widely well received. Delmara...Queen Delmara, now....was seen as a welcome change from Nelshazzar's skull intensive reign.
They were calling it the Reign of Terror now, although some still called it the Reign of Fluffy Bunnies. Nelshazzar had decreed his reign be called that in a day when those who worked at the palace had described him as being "in an odd mood."
The Elves were present, dressed in earthen colors with embroidered leaves. The Dwarves had sent a representative as well, clinking in chain mail. There were a dozen other races not so easily recognizable, as well as representatives from even more human empires. Kodolamen from the south, with skin the color of midnight, Alkomar from the north dressed in furs. Kai-Min from the east, all wrapped in silks. And all of them there to see her become Queen.
Owen stood next to the throne now, his face beaming. There was something dopish about his grin. They were set to wed within a month. On his chest was the gleaming Chalice of Light, symbol of the Holy Orders. A man approached her wearing the same symbol on opulent robes, wearing the silver crown of the faith and holding another crown, a golden circlet. The high priest.
The crown looked awful and bare. It had once held nine gems, each a different color, each calling on a different aspect of heaven, hell, or the earth. But when Nelshazzar had fallen his supporters had scattered with the gems. People were already whispering her rule would not be legitimate until they were found....
"Your Majesty?" the High Priest said. "If you'll ascend the steps to the throne, we can begin the coronation...."
