Jenica took another deep breath as panic tried to settle in her chest, this was right. It had to be, the GPS said so. She chewed her lower lip and stared at the red light in front of her, she’d already locked the doors, so her little Volkswagen Beetle was secure, well as secure as the powder blue contraption could be. Turning left she ignored the stares of the men on the corner and concentrated on getting to the meeting place for the wedding. Smartly dressed in a flowy lavender dress, the color brought out the greens of her eyes and paired with the darker purple shrug and 4 inch heels in the same dark purple she was a pretty flower. Her dark brown locks were down, the color laced with gold tones that the sun brought out each summer and it never truly faded only turned into more of a copper tone.
The sudden jerk of the wheel as she pushed through yet another desolate intersection, caught her attention in a big way as well as the steady –flub-flub-flub- of a busted tire. Easing the car to the curb she bit back a curse and smacked her hand on the steering wheel. Taking a deep breath she unlocked the door and got out to assess the damage. Keeping aware of her surroundings as she was taught she felt the approach of the man long before she saw him. Before he even opened his mouth she could smell the alcohol.
“Baby, looks like you gots a busted tire, need a man ta take a looksee at that fer ya?” he said hiking up his pants.
Jen ignored him, but only for a moment. “No I’m okay, I called my boyfriend. He should be here soon.” She lied, there was no boyfriend, and hadn’t been had one in a while. Smiling up at the scruffy looking man, she moved back to her car. “Thanks though, I think I better wait on him in here.” she pulled open the door to which the man shoved closed. “Sir…”
“A pretty thang like you… he shouldn’t have let you outta tha house. These streets aren’t safe, lots of perverts and such running around.” She watched as he leered at her and waved his hand in the air, as if calling over another.
Jenica turned her head, it wasn’t just another one, it was another three or four. Inwardly she groaned, she should have called the place for directions and not relied on her silly GPS. “Hey I really need to…” she heard the chirp of her cell phone. “I need to get that. That could be Harley. If I don’t answer… well, you know how you guys can be.” She gave a weak smile as the first man moved her by her arm to the sidewalk where the others waited.
“Mmhmm, you dating a motorcycle baby? Harley ain’t no name for a man! A man’s name is Chuck, Bob, Steve, Joe and John, not Harley. What kind of name is Harley?”
It was the first name she could think of. She was released but surrounded. A hand reached out and smacked her on the ass, “OW, stop.” The sting brought tears to her eyes, she couldn’t think to scream or fight back. 5’ 8” with her heels and not much in weight, her curves hidden beneath the flowy dress otherwise the reactions would have been worse than even this.
