The morning was a silent one most like the morning before and the morning after today would be. This small village contained almost fifty peasants... yes only fifty unlike most villages which range from a hundred to two hundred this small village was only a small Fishermens village. The men went out early in the morning to hunt for the entire day while the women stayed home, taking care of their husband's children or gathering wood for fires. Usually The Village would have been better off if the Royal family hadn't asked for such a high tax payment. The Villagers had to give up over seventy percent of what they caught to the merchants that brought everything to the castle. They never had enough fish for their families when it came to the end of the day.
In this small quiet village the only person who'd come out of her hut was a slender framed girl with long brownish black hair that was braided down her back. She wore a dark green gown that seemed to have been worn atleast for a month before that day without being cleaned. She carried a bundle of firewood in her arms and she was moving to dump them into the shed. "Elena? Where are you?" The sound of an older women's voice caused the girl to jump slightly and stand up straight before moving to the front of the hut. "I'm right here mumma...Do you need something?" Elena asked gently the color of her one bright blue eye glistened in the colors of the sunrise while her other eye.... being brown.. remained hidden under her thick bangs. If a trader found out about her heterochromatic eyes she'd be in grave danger.
Elena's mother let out a soft smile as she nodded her head and beckoned her sixteen year old daughter closer to her side. "I need you to go and gather some berries in the woods.. ye know the bush by the Windmill?" The women spoke and Elena nodded her head gently "I will be back in an hour then mumma... I love you" She smiled softly and moved off with a basket towards the berry bushes which were almost a mile from the village.
