Katie shuffled the papers in her hand, threatening to spill over onto the floor. She had been an intern at the Cryogenic Research Facility for three months now, and she had been kept busy the entire time. She'd had no time to follow the news or even keep up with her family as she worked long hours for bad pay in the hopes of making some great connections for her future.
She was hurrying down a hallway to Dr. Roberts' office, checking to make sure she had all the files he had asked for. Looking outside, protesters still milled around the so-called "Germ Factory" next door. She didn't pay them much attention, as they had been claiming for two weeks that new research would mean the end of the world and nothing had happened yet. She considered them more than a little crazy.
With her hands full, she kicked at the door in order to knock, calling out, "Dr. Roberts! I have that research you asked for!"
