To Save or To Destroy

In the darkages when man fought himself and the black plague ravaged the world humans believed the causes simple. But in reality these were symptoms of the forces of darkness and light waging a bitter war. Heaven sent down its messengers, soldiers, and heroes, and hell released horrible monsters to do battle. Try as they might the angels could not win and the battle seemed lost. Then when nearly all hope was lost, a champion rose, a mortal woman and a great demon fought against hell. She was a master swordsman, and mage and he a traitor and a devourer fought against the hordes of darkness. In the final battle upon a dead plain they fought the last vestiges of evil, great Arch Devils rose from the pits, chaos serpents, arch fiends, succubi, cerberi, and even lowly imps did battle against these two. But even with their combined strength they could not win, in a final act of desperation the woman took her greatest weapon, a broad sword bleesed by heaven and dug it into the ground performing a sacred chant she blessed the ground the demons walked on. It became like poison, killing them simply by touch, the world rose up, and swallowed them all. Leaving the world safe, but only for a time and at a terrible cost, the swordswoman had to give the spell something to feed on. She gave it her life, and her life is what it took. The great demon tried to save her, but could not, and the woman knew that one day the spell would be broken, and with what strength she had sealed the demon within a simple pendent in the shape of the sun. Upon that day the world wept, the plague ended, and a new nation more powerfull than any other rose up and became the greatest power for the next several hundred years.

In the year 2012 the pendent had seen many owners, many homes, and many souls. Now it stood in a simple jewerly store on sale for next to nothing, waiting for its new master, and the one who would decide the fate of the world.
