It had been overcast since that morning, with the sun peeking through every now and then, but the day was more or less gloomy overall. A few sprinkles fell over the city below numerous times, but here was no downpour...that is...there wasn't until now. Leave it to the weather reports to predict wrong about the weather on a day like today. Around 3:30 in the afternoon, it started off as a light drizzle, quickly building up to a surprising downpour, getting most people on the streets scrambling for wherever their destination was. Not surprisingly, most of these people did not have an umbrella or other method of keeping dry with them. And the people in their cars or on the buses were feeling that much better about being inside. Pretty soon, it was common to see someone trying to duck under bus stops or roofs. Of course, it didn't really help them much. But it was not just the citizens suffering from the rain, or at least the 'human' citizens. Occasionally darting through the soaked streets were a trio of felines, maneuvering through traffic and people rushing by. It was quite a wonder that they did not get into some sort of accident, or cause one, as they were seeking out shelter much like these humans. Their furry bodies were already dripping wet all over, and they did not look intent on stopping. Staying in motion at least kept their body somewhat warmer, but the chilly sensation still lingered, and if they were to stop moving for too long they would be a shivering mess. their little marathon to find shelter eventually led them to a small alley between a couple apartment complexes, where most of the trash was dumped or where the smokers were. Course, now it was empty.
In a desperate struggle for shelter, their first thought was to knock over a trash can or try to duck between them somehow. Both efforts proved to be rather fruitless. There was a small cardboard box on top of one of the cans that was starting to slip because of the rain, and one of the cats, the biggest with white fur, had begun reaching for it, managing to pull it closer to the edge before it fell over on its side. There was enough room for all three of them to fit, but even with the little 'roof' over their heads, the box was already soaked and leaking over them. It was better than not being in the box, but not by a long shot. Most of the restaurants or homes they had turned up at were quick to shoo them away, and so this was where they would stay until the rain died down. But they did not really want to be here, shivering up against each other. No doubt they'd be sick from being out too long. their faint little meows soon began to sound, as if pleading from something or someone to make their situation even a little bit easier. The only thing they could do was cry out, bundling up in hopes for a little warmth together. They could see numerous pairs of legs rushing past them in a blur, those humans probably passing by too quickly to hear them.
