First off, the basics.

I love sci-fi, as long as it's relatively realistic, as contradictory as that sounds. No photon torpedoes or super-easy artificial gravity, people need big tanks of Oxygen to breathe. Ender's Game books and Dead Space illustrate things pretty well.
