(The Village of Woodra, 200 years in the past)
Willow shifts uncomfortably as the shackles on her ankles and wrists bite into her soft flesh. Her green eyes catch the blue of a preacher as he reads his prayers from a small scroll in his hands. Each word seemed shaky and uncertain, leaving willow more uncomfortable as the accuser, a man with a long braid of black hair and an axe, rubs his greasy fingers on his lovely white blouse befoer stepping forward.
"Willow Reiniferd Bow, you are hereby accused of cursing my cattle and the town of Woodra. How do you plead?" he demands, the axe held just in view of Willow, although she knew it was just for intimidation. The true death would come with what men called the cleansing fire, and Willow did not fear it. Unlike this piggish man, she would see the world again through new eyes when released from her body.
She is silent before she gives them what they seek, knowing that whatever truly afflicted them would simply attack again had she not killed it several nights before. "Guilty," she says simply, a small, cold smile the only thing visable she lowers her head.
She listens intently to the hushed whispers from the crowd around her before several men snag her chains, giving her no mercy as she is forced to shuffle behind them towards the waiting hill.
Stumbling, she sighs with a tired relief as her shackes are removed and she is pushed forward, then slowly wrapped in blessed cloth and strips made by the women of the town.
None could look at her and she didn't blame them. Having healed children and made their crops prosper they knew she was not guilty. Closing her eyes as they use the strips to tightly bind her again, she is laid on a pyre. Her eyes remain calm, the only part of her still visible as they light the pile of wood beneath her and smoke begins to rise from the hill top.
(City of Woodra, present day)
Jenny runs down the street, her small body and long legs a blessing as she skids and takes a sudden turn down a nearby alley. She can hear them behind her, their feet pounding the ground as they shouted after her, flame throwers strapped to their backs and others carrying rock salt shotguns.
Skidding to a halt, she pants heavily and stares at the dead end before backing agaisnt the wall, her eyes wide as five men begin slowly advancing on her along the alleyway. Whimpering, she backs against the wall and shivers, her tail coiling around her protectively as she deperately tries to clamber up the wall. Her small wings flap desperately, though one is badly damaged. Backing against the wall again, she whimpers as a gun barrel is shoved against her stomach and fired, making her shriek as she hits the ground and shutters.
"Hehe, fucking thing's weak. Maybe we should send it to a lab? We could always learn more about it," one says as he painfully pulls at Jenny's ear until he suddenly shrieks. She digs her small claws into his hand, causing him to drop his weapon.
Turning to backhand her, he is caught by her gaze and shudders, forced still before she shoves him out of the way. Scrambling now, she barely manages to climb over the edge of the roof before they can react.
Jenny begins to run again knowing that once morning comes at least the death squads will leave.
Gritty sci-fi setting: Scanners will blip with information on human or monster. There are force fields and higher tech than today, but in the creatures view it would be more like an apocalyptic setting if anything. In a human perspective it is a utopia of technology, and they have more access to simple luxuries than the creatures do.
Dark world is a campaign setting that is aware of the existence of magic. Magical beings, the bogey man and dragons are a part of normal life. Seeing a fairy in your garden or a goblin in your cellar has been accepted since the Renaissance. More and more restrictions have been put in place to restrict the use of magic, however, and being what they are humans have an unnatural need to control or destroy what they don't understand. Many beings are on the run from the law. After the revolution and the first wars between humans and monsters, the monsters were either forced into hiding live under restrictive laws in order to survive. Any non-human caught mascarading as a human is executed. Monsters report for yearly examinations and tagging to keep track. Monsters considered too dangerous to live – due to the extreme perania of the human race – are often killed in secret by death squads. With all these pressures, however, most monsters survive, many in secret and live however they can.
Players can portray a monster of their choosing, a death squad member, or someone who supports and helps monsters, not to mention any number of other careers and character types. Characters will be created using the profile below. The monsters can be played anyway you want but it would be preferred if they are more like their classical descriptions than modern reinterpretations. (So yes, no Twilight-style vampires) I'll also be adding a few monsters of my own for fun, and you can too if you want, so long as you clear them with me first.
No god moding! If you have powers, keep them under control. Monsters often live lacking their normal food sources, which effect the efficiency of their powers.
YOUR CHARACTER PROFILE
Character Name:
Player Name/ID:
Species:
Profession:
Physical Description: (Be as verbose as you like. Pictures are accepted, but a description is required also)
SKILLS: Primary: (Species for healthy monsters. What you are known for above all else. It can be as general as "Death Squad Member" or as specific as "Sniper". When compared to others, a Primary will be considered at Hollywood action hero caliber.)
Secondary: (Species for weaker monsters. Something your character is good at, but not necessarily what they are employed to do: Ex-US Marine, Driving, Forensics, these are all good examples of skills that would be useful, but might not be first-rank skills.)
Tertiary: (This is something you are reasonably good at, but is something of a fall-back skill. It can also be a hobby: Rock Guitar, Computer Repair, Car Mechanic. These kind of skills have less typical impact from day to day.)
Disadvantage: (psychological compulsion, a mental defect, phobia, allergy, etc. If you are a monster, this is often pretty simple to figure out. "Bad at Math" will not qualify, but something like "Hypocratic Oath" or "Extreme Prejudice against Vampires" would, as it has a much greater game impact.)
Species Powers: List your species powers and effects here. Don't get carried away. Nothing earth-shaking, please.
Carried Items: Keep in mind that even a trenchcoat cannot allow you to carry an arsenal of weapons. Keep things reasonable.
