Being the new kid on campus was never easy, especially when it was a new school every year. Erin Murphy never spent more than a year in the same place. Her father was a military man who frequently found himself deployed in various countries and always moved his daughter with him.
Throughout her entire high school life, Erin never had the chance to be a normal kid. She never got to join the sports she wanted to, or make friends that she would see over the summer. She missed out on dating and on dances but never once complained. Her father worked hard and she knew that, it would have made her feel selfish if she complained about all the moving. Instead, she took her lifestyle in silence.
Her senior year seemed like it was going to be spent in Germany, but at the last minute her father decided to change his career and take a permanent job on a military base back in the states. He had said it was because he was getting too old to keep up with the younger men, but Erin secretly believed he had done it for her. Whatever his reason was, she was ecstatic that for once in her life she would be going to an American school and would be there for good.
The private school that her father had enrolled her in was a dream come true. Even if it was the middle of the year and all clubs and sports were closed to new students, she was still excited. On her first day of school, the slender red-head could hardly contain her excitement. She had spent all night ironing her new school uniforms and getting her backpack together. Her senior year was sure to be the best, at least that's what she hoping for. She barely slept that night.
Early that next morning, she put on the somewhat boring uniform that didn't flatter her feminine curves at all and braided her auburn hair. With a touch of makeup to cover up some of the freckles on her face and a little bit of lip balm, she was ready to go. Since she had moved around so much, she never had time to get a drivers license and so her father drove her to school that morning. The entire time she could have peed herself from all the excitement.
Rolling up to the school, she gave her dad a kiss on the cheek before she headed inside. She was so early that it seemed not even all of the teachers had arrived yet! The halls were empty as she made her way to the administration office to get her schedule and check in; by the time she was finished, a few students had shown up and were already forming their own little cliques in the halls. Erin had her schedule in hand as she walked by the other students and flashed a kind, yet somewhat bashful smile. She liked to think that by the end of the week they could all be friends and would find her interesting and different.
Her head was full of optimistic hope as she found her empty first period class room and took a seat at the front.
