MEKTOWN is a sprawling shanty-city of workshops, foundries, refineries, factories, bars and brothels. Architecture is best described as primitive, walls are nothing more than rusting sheet metal and corrugated iron. The buildings are long and low with flat roofs.
Mektown is called Mektown because that's where the Meks live.
MEKS are responsible for keeping Mektown running - water purifiers and pumps, generators, stills and any other machinery needed to preserve what little civilisation there is to be found in the Fractured States.
They also make and repair guns and vehicles for various gangs, usually in exchange for any interesting bits of junk found while scavenging in the wastes.
Every Mek takes on at least one apprentice, mostly to ensure that they have someone to pass their workshop to when they die.
No Mek, except Madmek who is called that for a reason, is crazy enough to run in a gang.
Most Guns and ammunition are manufactured by the Mek who controls the GUNWORKS, a huge factory in the centre of Mektown. This role is currently filled by Ordna. There are two common types of gun Ordna and his apprentices produce:
Any pistol-sized weapon, semi-automatic or revolver, that can be fired in one hand is known as a slugger.
Shooters are rapid-fire rifle-style weapons, usually with little or no recoil control and poor accuracy at anything over medium range. Heavy shooters are too heavy to be carried by a single person and are commonly mounted on vehicles and walls.
Also a few odd things like shotguns and sharpshooter's rifles.
Blasters are incredibly rare in Mektown, and no Mek knows how to construct or repair them. Ammunition is, if anything, even more hard to find than the weapons themselves.
VEHICLES are designed and built by Meks as well. Bikes, buggies and trucks are the most common. These are not precision machines, usually consisting of the largest, noisiest and most powerful engine that the commissioning gang can afford on a heavy chassis covered in as much armour plating as can be nailed, riveted or strapped on. Control is nothing more complicated than a steering wheel, a brake pedal and an accelerator. Top of the line vehicles might come with a few added extras - such as turbo boosters or weapons fired from the drivers seat - and whatever else the Mek who constructed it felt like adding on.
No real-life weapons or vehicles in this RP.
Trade is carried out by barter, trading interesting bits and pieces for repairs and ammunition. Three things always get a good price in Mektown - GASOLINE, ALCOHOL and CLEAN WATER.
A very brief history of the Vendetta:
The Vendetta were once one of the most respected gangs in Mektown, mostly due to Venger's strict code of conduct. This changed when the Librarians turned up and forced Madmek, who ran the Gunworks and practically the whole of the city at that time, to leave Mektown for good. This wouldn't have been so bad, but many of the Vendetta went with him.
Most of the rest were wiped out in an ambush by a rival gang called the Wasps, leading to no small amount of ill-feeling towards them by the surviving members of the Vendetta, who only escaped death by the smallest of margins.
