Oliver Green kissed his mother on the cheek and shook his father's hand, giving him a hug before he stooped down to pick up his baby sister. He kissed her on both cheeks and set her down "Now, be a good girl for mom and dad, or else I won't let you come up here and see me." he said to the ten year old. His mother and father both gave him some final words, his mother's more worried than his father's, before they left him in his new home. A dorm room at a college a good five hours from home, he had managed to get a cross country scholarship for the school, and knowing it was the only way he was going to be able to pay for college he took it. He now started to unpack his things and place them around the room, letting his mind wonder on what his room mate was going to be like and about his classes that he was going to be taking.
Oliver sighed a bit and sat down on his bed, frowning when he found his mother was right in that it wasn't going to be the comfiest bed in the world, but with a few mattress pads it would be alright. He looked around the room and then out the window at all the other incoming freshman and other students in his dorm, wondering if he would find someone to be with. He had never told his parents about him being gay, not that he was really sure if he was, all he knew is that when he slept around it was with other men. He never really was attracted enough to girls to ask and they never really asked him, not that he minded.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Cassius Argentum Delruth was very, unhappy. very, very unhappy indeed. he was the richest person attending the school, and had been for nearly a year now. he had the highest grades, and the school long jump record, AND the high jump record too for that matter, he was on the school committee, and attended every school function and his father was one of the school governors, and yet, he was going to have a room mate. this, did not sit well with him at all. especially when he KNEW it was his mother, or his father, or even his elder sister deciding to meddle with his life yet again. they where...concerned, about how few freinds he had, which was...well, none. so he was quite certain that they had gotten involved, picked someone they thought he might get along with, and hoped that Cassius didn't kill them.

when Oliver entered the room he would see that one side had already been taken, and was completely unpacked. and it was also very obvious that his roommate was a neat freak. everything was put into specific locations, organized and placed specifically so, like a massive overdose of OCD had gone over that half of the room and straightened everything to be just so. there where no personal knickknacks save for a tiny stuffed dragon sitting next tot he pillow on the bed, it was a cute little thing but seeing as how it was the only thing there that was not for personal grooming or classes, it was probably better not to touch it.

ten minutes after Oliver arrived Cassius entered the room his eyes narrowed as he watched Oliver carefully. he was a very handsome man, Cassius, his hair jet black, cropped short and spiked stylishly, a haircut that probably cost more than the school books did. his skin was a handsome tan color from always being out in the sun, and his eyes gleamed silver in the light. he was slender, but fit, an athletes body if there ever was one. even better, he had clearly just gotten done with practice, or taking a run because his lean body was covered in a thin sheen of sweat, and he was wearing only a pair of tight shorts, and a pair of running shoes. "..." he studied Oliver silently for a long moment, clearly trying to decide if he had been forced to room with a madman or something.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Oliver looked over when he heard someone enter the room and gave a soft friendly smile, giving his hand to the other. "Oliver Green, nice to meet you. You must be, um, Cassius, wasn't it?" he asked and titled his head slightly. At the moment he was wearing khaki shorts and a pull over shirt that had a local band from home on it. "I hope we get along, I heard from..." he trailed off remembering what Cassius's parents had told him "I heard that you are a long and high jump person. I'm cross country, so we'll probably be seeing a lot of each other." His eyes flashed to the man's body and a flicker of a smile landed on his face, though it was gone as quick as it had come, his eyes back on the man's face. "I like your dragon." he said and nodded to the dragon plush sitting on the bed. "I, um, hope you don't mind. I'm going to be a little messy at first, but I'll have it all cleaned up within a week, I promise."

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Cassius simply stared at the other for a long moment, as if the other had grown a second head then. "don't touch Blaze." he ordered simply before moving into the room proper. "yeah i'm Cassius." he admitted with a small sound of annoyance. "i run the five hundred and i'm on the cross country too." he admitted sitting on his bed, studying the other intently for a moment then. "don't worry about being messy i don't care so long as your mess doesn't touch my OCD." he ordered offering the other a small glare. "you might as well be up front about it, my parents asked, or bribed, or payed, or blackmailed you into rooming with me." he stated crossing his arms. "as long as you don't touch my shit, get your mess on my side of the room or try to touch me you'll survive until you can get a new room, or if your particularly talented at ignoring hell, to the end of the year." he sniffed a little at the other. "now i, am going to go an take a shower." he stated standing up and glaring at the other again before flicking his finger to a small fridge sitting in-between the two haves of the room.. "don't touch the breakfast shakes. you can help yourself to anything else." well, at least Oliver was getting free food out of all of that.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

He moved his hand back down to his side, slightly awkward now. He fidgeted and nodded "yeah, right, now problem. And they just told me about you, they didn't ask me or whatever, I guess I was more forced into this." He looked down "Uh, right." he said when the other said he was going to take a shower "I'm probably going to run around campus, so, I'll see you later." he said and moved to get changed into some shorts and his tennis shoes. He glanced back to the fridge and opened it, checking out what was in it before grabbing a bottle of water and heading out with his key and ID. He didn't come back for an hour, getting lost a few times along the way.
Oliver came into the room, drinking the last bit of water and throwing the water bottle away. He laid down on his bed and shut his eyes, glancing at the other bed frowning slightly asking no one in particular "Why on earth does a guy like him, keep a plush toy? Is he like a spoiled child or something?" he chuckled and got up, getting dizzy at how quick he got up and shook his head waiting for it to go away. He got up and opened the door to the shower and headed in to take a shower.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

when Oliver came back from his shower, Cassius was laying on his bed, scowling as he stared at his stuffed dragon, which was sitting on his chest, he glanced over at Oliver and for a moment he looked almost guilty, then it was gone, as always and he huffed a little. "i am sorry i was so brash with you this morning." he stated simply, fiddling with his Dragon's ear. "i... did not sleep well last night, and i was grouchy. i should not have taken it out on you." he stated softly glancing over at the other shrugging his shoulder. "would you care to try again?" he offered holding his hand out to Olliver. "i am Cassius Delruth. it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Oliver looked over and nodded, taking his hand and smiled "I'm Oliver Green, nice to meet you Cassius." He shook his head and moved to sit back on his bed. "I take it you don't usually have room mates." he looked around the room for the fourth time that day and moved so he was sitting cross legged, in a towel, not bothering getting dressed yet. "So...um, what's your fastest time on the track?" he asked. "I'm not much of a sprinter myself, but I enjoy running, so I try at times." he said. "You mind showing me where we meet tomorrow? I kinda got lost while I was running." he mumbled the last bit of his sentence. "Look, I'm not going to bother you while we are in this room together or whatever, but I would at least like us to be friends. To make this place, liveable."

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Cassius smiled a little, looking more annoyed than anything else. "no, i normally do not have a roommate." he admitted shaking his head. "this is my families idea of...doing what is best for me." he stated with a scowl. "i do not get along with people." he stated simply. "but seeing as how you are stuck with me, i may take the time to at least try." what an od thing to say, that it was Oliver who was stuck, instead of Cassius. "my top time is 53.44 seconds on the five hundred." he admitted smiling a little. "i'm trying to beat the school record, which is 49.50 but i can't get under 53." he admitted shaking his head. "the campus is quite extensive." he admitted. "there are supposed to be signs but no one has put them up yet." he admitted shaking his head a little. "i don't know if we will be freinds, but i am sure we can at least get along."

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Oliver smirked "49.50? No, I'm pretty sure it's 49." He leaned back, acting a little cocky, 49 was his fastest time. He couldn't do it often, but if it was to beat the school record he would do it, if it was to beat his room mate, he would do it. He wasn't sure why he got like this around people, but he felt the need to stay the best while on a scholarship and he would definitely have to stay at least 3rd best to keep it. He glanced out the window "Maybe you can give me a tour or something like that one day, so I don't get lost going to classes." He finally got up and started to get dressed, his body that of a runner, but not much more. He pulled on some boxers and threw on shorts over them, not planning on really heading out at this particular moment "You know any place that is hiring?" he asked and looked over to Cassius.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Cassius lifted an eyebrow and suddenly smirked a little at the other. "i see." he stated looking rather impressed despite himself. " "well i haven't had the time to train yet." he admitted shaking his head a little. "i'll get faster this year." he decided with a smirk, deciding he rather liked the idea of having someone to really compete against. "i don't know about a tour." he admitted hesitating a moment. "i don';t really know all of the places." he admitted scratching the back of his head. "i only have the three classes you see so i never bothered to learn where to go to get to anywhere else. and i doubt you would be taking business management and Economy classes." he admitted, his eyes roving over his roommates body, enjoying the fit body. just because Cassius didn't like people, didn't mean he didn't enjoy a good shag now and again. "as for jobs there are many around here, their looking at two or three restaurants, the cafeteria here on campus needs help, as does the library." he paused and nodded. "i might be able to find you a map."

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Oliver couldn't help but smile when the other seemed to take on his challenge. "No, I'm going to have to look for the freshman classes and as for my major, the track will do fine, since I'll probably be around there all the time." he nodded when the other mentioned the places that were looking for people "I'll check them out, thanks. It's going to help in case I lose my scholarship, though I don't know what I'm going to do if I lose it." he fidgeted a bit where he was seated "A map would be nice, thank you." he said and picked at his nails. "So, what do you do for fun around here? Other than mess around with a stuffed dragon, what is up with that anyway?" he asked nodding to the plush "It's like the only, personal thing in here, besides my stuff."

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

he nodded a little. "i can show you the track and the cross country routes at any rate." he decided with a shrug before tensing at the mention of his Dragon, his eyes narrowing at the other. "all you need to know, is that if you touch it i won't hesitate to chop your fingers off." he stated seriously as he shoved the Dragon out of sight of the other. "it's personal and sensitive and i do not feel the need to speak of it, thank you." he stated stiffly. obviously the Dragon was a sensitive subject, not that Oliver could have known that. "i'm hungry." he decided, carefully placing the dragon back in place next to the pillow before he stood up. "want me to show you where the cafeteria is? you better get dressed."

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Oliver eyed the other cautiously "geez man, calm down. I was just asking." he nodded and quickly put on a shirt "All done." he said and checked for his ID and keys. "You can touch any of my things, if you like." he said and shook his head. Oliver thought Cassius was a little strange but his parents had said that Cassius didn't have any other friends, so maybe he just wasn't used to interacting with other people. He followed the other to the cafeteria and glanced around campus as they walked, trying to figure out which buildings he would need to get to when classes started. He jogged ahead of the other a bit to check out one of the buildings and looked inside of it, he had found one of the buildings someone had told him some of his classes once he got into his major would be in. He smiled and jogged back over to Cassius giving a smile to him "Looks like a cool building."

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Cassius grimaced a little and shook his head, giving the dragon an affectionate pat on the head before walking out the door. Cassius was more than just friendless, he was also very odd it seamed. he treated the Dragon as if it was a real thing almost, if the pat to the head was any indication. he ran a short commentary on the buildings he knew, like that one was the gym, students got in free as long as they had their ID. there was a pool, weights, tennis court, indoor track, everything. they passed the outdoor track on the way and Cassius explained that it was only open during certain times due to people doing things in there that they weren't supposed to be doing. the Cafeteria was also huge, and had a massive meal choice, even steak was available. "since your on scholarship the food is free i beleive." he admitted s nodding to the check out area. "you might want to check to make sure." he admitted looking around as he tried to decide what to get.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Oliver nodded "Yeah, well, sorta, I'm on a budget. I get like 400 a semester." he shrugged "It'll keep me." he said and glanced at the food, choosing his items carefully. He did calculations in his head and grabbed the food accordingly. He wanted to stay healthy but well under budget in case he had to get something else while he was there. Considering the 400 was not just for food but for things to do as well. He would be given more the next year as long as he kept up his grades and his scores on the cross country board. He had to be nearly the fastest to keep the scholarship that the school had given him. He knew it was going to be tough, but he was ready for it. "Do...do you know when we are supposed to start training with the team?" he asked Cassius.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Cassius nodded as he grabbed himself a salad, it was all you could eat and the cheapest on the menu too, he also got a steak and a baked potato. with as much as the man ran and exercised it was no wonder he ate so much. "team training starts a week after classes do." he stated simple shaking his head a little. "i personally think it should be a week before but apparently the idea is that classes are more important." he complained sniffing again as he paid for his meal and shook his head again. "but this is why we're only second in the competitions." he was getting close to bitching. "but if you can run a five hundred in forty nine we might be able to pull our ranking up a little."

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

He got a salad and a sandwich, much less then he should be eating, but he wasn't going to be able to afford much else. He paid for the food and followed the other "Yeah, I heard about that." he sighed "I hope I can help out, I can run a 500 in 49, but it's not often. I'm gonna have to start training before that, if I want to keep that frequent. Cross country isn't nearly as bad, I hope. And if I push it I can probably attempt to beat the cross country record, but that's going to take a lot of training. Whoever set that is pretty good." He smiled "I hope I get to meet whoever it is who set that record." he smiled more and found a place to sit and started to eat, looking around the school "So, um, is there like a community around here or something?" he asked "like clubs?"

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

he smirked a little looking amused as he went on about the cross country record. "that would be me." he stated simply taking a long swallow of some milk looking at the others plate. "is that all your eating?" he demanded looking a little baffled before shaking his head and sliding over the steak. "you can't run on that, eat the steak and don't complain." he ordered munching on his salad. "i wouldn't know, i don't bother with the community." he stated simply. "i don't have time for it either." he shrugged. "my sister won't stop talking about this new club that she opened, something about a gay rave, i have no idea for sure." he admitted. "she keeps trying to get me to go." was that an admittance to being gay? "are you even old enough to drink?"

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Oliver glanced at the steak "I'm good. And I will complain, ass." he shook his head and pushed it back "I'm not a charity case, thank you." He then recognized that the other said he set the record and he nodded "Well, nice to meet you again." he said and listened to the other "rave huh? I'll have to check it out if I can." he said and fidgeted unsure if the other was admitting he was gay or not "No? Does that matter?" he asked "I'll drink if I like, I have my ways of getting it, if I want a drink that is." He smirked some remembering some drunk one night stands that he had, the smirk fading when he remembered the scared feelings he was having when he was at the doctor's office getting a STD test without his parents knowing.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

his eyes narrowed at the refusal of his food and he leaned forward. "i did not ask you to be a charity case. i asked you to eat my food because i don't want you to faint and ruin the little chance we actually have of coming in FIRST this year!" he hissed shoving the steak back over. "you WILL eat the food i give you or i WILL make your stay with me as horrid as possible." he growled nodding as if that was the end of the discussion and went back to his Salad. he seamed to really care about the competition. "it's nothing more that i wouldn't do to anyone else on the team." he stated glaring at the other. "in fact i buy Adam's breakfast lunch AND dinner. so YOU don't get to claim to be a charity case if he isn't one." he paused. "and i'm going to pretend i did not just hear you saying you could get in to drink illegally, as if i hear i AM supposed to report you for under-aged drinking." he admitted simply. "but then you'd get kicked off the team." he glared at the other. "so don't get your ass caught or i WILL hunt you down and kill you." now he was clearly trying to joke. failing, but trying.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Oliver sighed and started eating the steak "Fine. Whatever." he said and chuckled slightly at the man's poor attempt to joke with him. "Dude, seriously? Come on, have you never joked with anyone before?" he asked and shook his head "That was horrible." he shook his head again and picked at the steak, he didn't like eating other people's food, and even if he wasn't a charity case to Cassius, it felt like he was to him. He fidgeted a little bit, eating the steak quietly. He knew he was going to need more food in his body and decided he should probably just buy some ingredients to something he could make a lot of and then just eat it over a period of time, like mac and beef or something like that. "Do we have any convenience stores on campus?" he asked.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Cassius smirked as he won, he ALWAYS won arguments and went back to eating his Salad, sighing a little as he shook his head. "i never really....'hang out' with people." he admitted, fidgeting a little. "they...make me nervous." he admitted simply his eyes narrowed a little as he remembered things he didn't want to remember. "we have two." he admitted. "i like to buy the hamburger helper." he admitted grinning a little. "steak is good but hamburger is better, and it tastes good too." he admitted licking his lips a little. "i can show you when we're done eating i need to pick up supplies anyway." he admitted shaking his head a little. "our dorm has a kitchen too but you don't want to stash food in there unless you don't mind going back and finding it missing." he admitted scowling a little. "dirty little sticky fingers..." he growled eating the last of his potato.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

He nodded and finished eating the rest of his salad and got up "Cool, I'm probably just going to do that, make something to eat and then, I guess, if you don't mind, keep it in the fridge in our room." he said and shrugged. "I don't know. As for you not hanging out with people, why don't you take me to the rave. That way you have someone you know there, maybe the people won't make you as nervous." he said and smiled "If not, I'll just go by myself, I want to meet new people I can hang with if I'm not running." he chuckled "And considering that's all I do unless I'm hanging out with people, I need some people." he said and put his tray away, heading out the doors and waiting on Cassius. "So, I guess you just study and train all year? I guess you can't be all that good if you haven't gotten lower than 53." he said, teasing the other.

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

he stared at the other for the longest moment as if he was insane then. "..into a club? with...crowds!?...and...and...sweat and germs and..." he shuddered violently. "no thanks i think i'll call my sister, SHE can take you." he grumbled shaking his head a little. "i'm ready to talk to you, i'm not ready for that step just yet." he stated with a shake of his head. "i read sometimes." he admitted. "but otherwise yes, it is study and train. with the classes i take that's about all that i can manage really." he admitted before glaring at the other. "53 is what i can do AFTER i tore my ACL." he stated glaring harder at the other. "i'm still recovering." he sniffed a little, he wasn't making excuses, honest! just stating facts....honest...

RE: First Day of College, First Day of Freedom, I Think

Oliver rolled his eyes "Oh come on. It's fun." he sighed and nodded "Whatever." he said and blinked "You tore your ACL? Damn, sorry. I didn't know." he said and looked down "I don't think I could do that, tear it and then keep training while I was getting better." he looked around the campus and looked at the track, smiling. "God, I can't wait to get on it. Just the feel of it under your feet, you don't get anything better, do you? Ground just doesn't cut it after you've been on the track. The yelling and the cheering, not knowing if that last burst of energy is going to be enough for you to win the race. You finish and look into the crown to see the people who are there for you." he smiled and closed his eyes "The wind that brushes against your face. There is nothing better out there." he said and tried to imagine himself on this particular track.
