The coffee shop screamed cheep, student life, desolate and general bad choice for a first date. But Steven knew he had little other choice. When picking the venue for a first date you always plan it like a tactical manoeuvre. Shy girls go best with a movie. Talkative to a bench and a pleasantly walk. Party girls go dancing and posh girls go to a posh restaurant. Steven knew this. He had his entire brain trust working all this out. And he was sitting in a worn leather sofa sipping a can of cheep soda.

This was all going to go horribly wrong.

His normal meadow green eyes were flared up with panic and regret as he scanned the full length windows for any signs of his date. Unsure whether she'd actually come. His gaze darted around the room. Catching the price tags for overcooked food and student adverts for upcoming events. The most prominent being 'The Hard Place cafe Acoustic Night!' Familiar names to Steven up on the list of acts, as well as his own. The soft brown hair seemly standing on end as he read it. Not only was he going to seem like a hopless sap who cant choose a venue, he was also going to appear as the most arrogant student on campus. he let out a long sigh and buried his sharp yet gentle featured face into his hands. This could not get any worse. It was gonna take more than his best jeans and trademark jacket to make up for this.

'You should just leave.' His mind told him. preying on his weaknesses. 'She wont come. This is an embarrassment of a first date.' Steven downed the cheep student brand drink and focused on the situation at hand. He was going to need alot of charm to make up for this.

“I hope it goes well,” Arianna mumbled into the phone as she walked down the familiar street to the coffee shop. She was on the phone with one of her good friends and they were discussing her date, which she was heading to now. Her friend didn’t even know who the guy was; all that she knew about him was what Arianna had told her, and that wasn’t much.

“I’m sure it will,” her friend reassured her on the other end of the phone line. “Besides, if it goes horribly wrong you can always just make up some excuse and leave.”

Her friend was right, though Arianna would feel awful if she ever had to resort to that. Besides, the guy seemed pretty nice, even though she really didn’t know that much about him. It would go great; at least that’s what she was telling herself. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves. “I’m here.” She stood in front of the doorway of the shop. She had been there many times with her friends or just alone doing some work with a cup of coffee. She couldn’t help but think that it was an odd choice for a first date. Hopefully that didn’t mean that the date itself wasn’t going to go well. “I’ll call you later.” And with that she hung up the phone. She brought her hand to the door handle, hesitating for a moment before swinging it open. She prayed that she wasn’t the first one there. Walking inside, she nervously looked around the room for him. What if he wasn’t there yet? What if he didn’t show up at all? She was growing more nervous by the second until she laid eyes on him. Okay, the fact that he didn’t stand her up did make her feel a bit better.

“Hey,” she greeted him with a smile and a small wave of her hand as she walked up to the sofa.
