The two men followed behind the owner of the arena as he lead them down a set of stairs and underneath the arena where the slaves were kept. As they walked into the first corridor that held the cells the smell hit them but neither of them reacted. As they started to walk down the hall the taller of the two looked down at the young boy of about sixteen he was short for his age but he carried himself as if he was six foot and spoke. “Go ahead and look the rest over.” He boy nodded and walked down the hall. As he glanced into the cells his fingers of one hand ran over the bars while he drummed the others over the hilt of what looked to be a well made short sword but on his it looked more like a full sized sword.

The owner stopped at a cell as Isaac the boys master pointed to a man. “Open the door. I want to talk with him.” The owner gave Isaac a quite looked before he warned him. “He is not restrained sir. I cannot promise your safety. ” Isaac looked back at the man. “I will keep myself safe just open the door.” His tone was one of authority and the man unlocked the door then opened it but did not enter. Isaac walked into the cell and started talking to the man with his hands at his sides. A minute later he left and thanks the man for speaking with him before he continued to walk down the row of cells stopping here and there. Each time he stopped he had the door opened and started talking to the people inside.

The boy continued to walk down the row of cells. He discretely scented the air. The flaring of his nostrils was the only thing that gave away what he was doing. He stopped near the end and looked at a woman in one of the cells. His eyes were a yellow that looked out of place on his human face. He didn’t say anything to her. He just stood there with his hands on the bars staring at her. The boy looked down the row and whistled to get Isaac’s attention. Isaac looked down the hall and walked to the boy. They both looked at the girl and Isaac smiled as he picked up the subtle scent that the boy had. “Why is she in here? She would be worth much more to be sold wouldn’t she?” He looked at the man beside him as the boy continued to watch the women.

The sound of footfalls had the muscles of her body tense, her fingers digging into her own bare flesh. It was too soon for the fight, too soon... and yet not soon enough. Her mind was fighting with the hunger, her fangs had not retracted for days, her body had begun to devour on itself. But she’d been through the state now for nearly a year. She was allowed to feed on the others until a fight day grew closer. Then her feeding on the other slave would cease. Her meals of pigs blood started never remotely enough, and then for the last 3 days nothing. No blood to stop the pain and no blood to make her strong enough to escape. Not until the fight.. but it was too soon.. too soon not yet dawn.

Dawn was still 3 hours away, They always made her fight when the sun was up, it protected them if she were to break free she would have no where to run, no escape. Not without risking the sun baking her skin. After a mere quarter hour exposed she would loose consciousness, and by the end of an hour nothing but ash. Or at least that was what she suspected was true. It seemed the slavers once had a vampire and in his escape that was exactly how they had found him.

Now the voices and forms that were hovering outside her cell mocked her. Their with the blood so close and untouchable beneath their skin and clothing. They sound of their beating hearts, like a spoon against a pot to call her for dinner as a child. She breathed more heavily her urge to slam against the bars. She should try to grab them, licking her lips, as the hunger push more and more twisting her insides in pain. It was the guard who she would attack.. she could.. almost taste his blood in the air, the other two.. she knew were different .. not like her.. but she didn’t care the madness from the hunger didn’t care she’d have attacked any of them were she given a chance.

--

The guard seemed to shrug at the visitor's questions.. assuming he had meant she was worth more as a sex slave to be sold. He smiled as if the only one understanding a joke. “She be to much work, and dangerous one.. you don’t have want of the girl.. Just wait .. until the fights... You’ll see she may look weak but the pretty thing has a bite that kills.” The guard laughs and urges the pair farther not realizing the master and boy knew more then they let on.

--

As they moved away she half growled to herself, it was better that way .. better she had not time to attack.. better to kill in the arena.. please the audience, please the slavers and eat well until the next fight grew near.

The boy shared a glance with Isaac then started to follow the guard. Isaac had kept his face blank and had even chuckled a bit at the mans words but the boy's face had darkened at the mans words. He glanced back at the woman once more as they walked away. He tore his gaze away from her only when he felt Isaac's hand on his shoulder.

They followed his through the rest of the cells. Isaac continued to stop at the cells that interested him. When they were finished and had left the underground cells. Isaac thanked the guard then started walking way with the boy. When they were out of ear shot the boy started to speak. “We need to get her out of there. They are torturing her by doing that.” Isaac nodded then looked down at him while they continued walking. “Fillin, we are not here just to stop the torture. I do agree that they need to treat her better but I cannot free her and just let her go. She will certainly just be captured again and everything would start over again.” Fillin growled a little but Isaac put his hand on the boys shoulder which stopped his growling. “I have no doubt that she will prove her worth. Now calm down and lets look to see if there is anything we need. We have a few hours until she will be up to fight.” FIllin growled again then stopped nodded and started to pay more attention to the stalls that they were passing.

Isaac hated what was being done to the woman just as much as Fillin but he kept it hidden and focused on what was in front of them. He and Fillin were treated well because most of the merchants recognized them but even the merchants that did not recognize them recognized the arm bands that commemorated them for military services. For those that did not see them right away the condition and fabrics of their clothes got them better service as well.

After purchasing a few things and having them sent back to the Inn they were staying at Fillin and Isaac headed back to the arena. They had reserved box seats right beside the wall of the arena and spoke quietly about what they were expect to happen when the vampire was let in. Isaac did more of the listening since he had a very good idea and was testing Fillin to see how much he had picked up on in their encounters with vampires. They were also enjoying a chicken each as they waited and Isaac had sent the servants out so he could extend his claws and use them to eat the chicken instead of having to use a knife. They both looked up and put aside their food when they heard the first fight announced. This was what Isaac was waiting for, if she showed promise he would buy her out of the torture they were in and see if she would agree to work with him. If she declined he would do his best to keep her out of the arenas.

The announcement of the first fight brought a rush of action below, and above. Those that had know her previous fights leaned and peered to watch. First to Enter the ring were 5 slaves or criminals armed and armored men, broad and scarred by fight after fight. Slaves that had earned their chance at freedom, warriors now in their own right, risking all to leave the arena that night as freemen or free-souls. All 5 of them took up positions to defend, it was rather obvious they would not fight among themselves. They waited a greater threat.

She’d been through this too many times in the past year. In the beginning she would try to avoid them, try to feed without deaths staining her hands. But the slavers learned and starved her more and more efficiently, making her the most viscous and powerful combination they could still control. Her mind was still fighting the need, but her fangs ached with knowing a kill was so close. A small cramped crate was rolled into the arena, the 5 men tensed and prepared. She ears filled with the sound of hundreds of rapid hearts beating everywhere around her. No more will-power remained, her eyes darkened her lips curled and her hissing scream broke as wood around her splintered and flew out like an explosion. The audience cheers unheard, the blood filled bodied gathering all her attention.

One opponent charged against her, he swung at her with a large ax, bring out a nasty growl from her lips. Her eyes beady and black as she focused on him, avoiding the strong swipes of the axe with her fast flexing muscles. Others moved in to try and attack, and distract her. Then as if it were her plan all along, she somehow gotten them all to herd close together, no longer spread out in the arena, and giving them all less room to maneuver and all the more a cattle for her slaughter. With eye-blinking speed she climbed up the arena wall and onto the domed cage above them, quickly then she dropped into the center of them.

Shock and panic filling each man, making them weak, her powerful hands grasping the closest man and tossing him like a doll to crash into the wall and sink to the ground. His long sword now in her hands. And so she continued to disarm and knock away man after man, fighting and calculating until 3 of them were down and not getting back up anytime soon. She hisses and growls the hunger clawing her insides, the men down would be easy to feed from but then those remaining would attack. Her thigh, side, and back were sliced into, she was losing blood and the haze was thickening.

As the remaining 2 circled her, neither wanting to charge to attack, both defending themselves. She had had enough ‘fun’ and with a sudden breath she let out a hungry growl eyes locking with one and hand twisting and tossing out the sword at the other, the blade flying like an arrow to embedded into the man’s chest as she’d tacked and attacked the other. His weapon hilted into her abdomen, but the pain was nothing, his blood filling her mouth and throat would have her healed in moments.

All her opponents unconscious, broken, or dead, the crowd was elated. They wanted a show and she had yet again preformed. With the draining and death on the man now at her feet, the hunger that was raging inside her was silent. She stood now claim near the center wall of the arena, her body healing. Her eyes returning to the soft ice blue and fangs retracting with satisfied hum. Beside the fact her dark chocolate hair and pale skin were knotted and stained with blood ,she now looked like an harmless beautiful young woman. And with a clear mind she had to face the deaths she had again caused, when the guards entered and urge her to return to her cell, there was no fight in her to refuse.

As soon as the fight started Fillin was at the edge of the box watching the events as they unfolded. He was wide eye as he took in the movements of the vampire as she pulled the men towards her then climbed up onto the cage and just dropped in the middle of the group. He licked his lips then as she started throwing them around he ran his tongue over his teeth almost pricking it on the sharpened teeth of his kind.

Isaac waited until she was feeding before he stood and joined Fillin at the edge of the box. He was watching her intently as she stood up and looked around. He nodded to himself and put his hand on FIllin’s shoulder. “Come now. We have work to do.“ He left with Fillin behind him practically vibrating from the adrenaline that coursed through his form.

When they left the arena the pair walked right back to the guard that they had spoken to before. Isaac started to barter with the man for the vampire. In the end he paid him about twice as much as she was worth and would arrange for the local military jail to send over five well trained soldiers who had tried to desert as replacements for the woman. He spoke to Fillin as the guard opened the door to the lower levels. “Go and find a heavy cloak. If you can get a black one.” He handed him more than enough money and the boy sprinted off.

Isaac walked behind the guard until they reached the cell them motioned for him to unlock it. After a second of hesitation he unlocked it and pulled open the door. Isaac walked into the cell and looked at the woman. “What is your name Miss?” He spoke as if there were on the street not under an arena where he had just seen her drain someone.

In her cell she was pacing her hands clenching and her body alive again. Her mind was clear her wounds already healed. She wished she could run, run and feel wind and fresh air. It was torture to have taken a life only to prolong her horrid life beneath the arena. She wanted to scream, but the sound of locked doors opening had her pause and retreat to her bed, leaning against the wall. She’d heard the footsteps approaching, the smell of the guard unmistakable and one of the visitors from before the fight.

Eyes blinked as the cell door was opened, she made no movement from where she lay propped against the wall on the hard bench that served as her bed. She was still covered in blood and her eyes held nothing but scorn. “What does it matter.. “ she looked at the man - making it obvious she was studying him. “You are a soldier.. but.. “ she inhales and her eyes lock with his. “But you .. and that boy from before.. your more.. what is it you think to gain from my name? What do you want.. I know you aren’t the normal visitor after a fight. One that pays to ‘enjoy’ the a deadly bitch as I am chained to the wall.. soo.. Tell me your angle or get the chains, cause if you get any closer I wont hesitate to have dessert..”

Isaac tilted his head to the side and studied her as she studied him. "There will be no chains and no more torture if you come with me." He turned to the guard. "I want some privacy with her." The man frowned but shrugged, he had gotten the money already. He started to close the door but Isaac stopped him. "Leave it and go." When the guard left he turned back to face the women but his eyes had changed from the dark brown to a black as deep as night mixed with a crimson then seemed to swirl and pulse with his heart beat. He smiled showing his teeth for the first time. They were serrated and not human at all. "If you come with me I can give you what you need to be a free woman again and I can give you the chance to be in the sun for a few hours without the," He paused as if thinking of the word. "Side effects of your gifts." as he spoke the claws on his left hand pushed out of each finger. Their were visible scares on his fingers where the claws had torn through in the past and as before the skin torn in the same places. "Would you like to leave here with me or stay?" He was certain she would accept his offer after seeing the look in her eyes after she had finished feeding. He held his claw against his right wrist as he waited for her response.

Fillin walked back to the arena with a heavy cloak in his arms. When he saw no one guarding the door he tried it but finding it locked her growled then moved a short distance away and leaned against the wall to wait. He sniffed the air then started watching the people walk by and judging how much of a challenge each one would be to take down.

His ‘changes’ had her eyes staring, no concern showed on the surface, but beneath she was curious at finally meeting another that was not fully human. He had smelled different, she’d known that, but until now she had not idea why or what it meant. She’d not been given her gifts or explained them. She’d spent years trying to figure out where and how and searched for who and what could help her, only to be captured. It had put a stop to her search, but it seemed she had a little luck still left, since what she’d been searching for had found her.

Problem was no matter how good a deal seemed she didn’t trust the creature he was, whatever it was he was. She frowned slightly then, the offer seemed to involve his blood and her agreement. Staying was no option and going at least opened up more to her then staying. It may have taken her a moment to come to the decision but her choice was the same. “My name is Eshe.. - Take me out of here..” she said simply not really willing to stay any longer then she must. If he spoke true and would free her, then she wanted out of the cell sooner rather then later.

Isaac smiled and nodded as she spoke. "Good to meet you Eshe. I am Isaac." He held out his right hand to her partly to shake and also to help her up if she wanted it. "Do you need to feed before we go outside?" Even as he spoke his eyes were shifting back to the dark brown that had been when the guard had brought him to the cell. He started to pull back his claws. He had decided that he would see if she wanted to take his blood but he would not ask her again.

When she was ready he left the cell and as soon as the guard saw them he headed for the door not wanting to be anywhere near the vampire. Fillin pushed away from the wall and watched as the door open and the guard hold it open for Isaac then almost hide behind it as Eshe came out side. Luckily this side of the building was still shaded and would not get direct sunlight until noon. Fillin walked up to Eshe and offered the cloak to her. "This should help with the sun." His voice proved that he was older than he looked. He watched her carefully now that he had seen what she had done he was even more interested in her and what she could do. "Fillin stay with her while I get the horses." The boy barely glanced at Isaac as he nodded. After a minute he looked away from her not wanting to seem rude and went back to watching the crowds of people walk by them.

Eshe slowly took the hand and stood and dropped the touch the moment she was balanced upon her own feet. She wouldn’t admit aloud but she was more then curious, but again her focus was of leaving, not a history of the man willing to free her. In the corridor moving toward the exit gate she was paranoid almost as if it would all crash around her before she actually took the step outside. But as the guard swung open the gate she let out a whoosh of air she had been holding in her lungs.

When young one handed her the cloak she took it quickly and wrapped it over herself, the hood pulled over her head to protect her from the sun, but also all those had passed them. As Issac was gone eyes watched them, her eyes scanned the crowds, scanned other path for escape and way she might run if any did attack. She may be free of the dungeon, but she was not far enough away. She needed a bath and clothing to rid herself the stink of the place. But again all of that would wait. It must wait.

She turned her attention to Fillin, noticing the young ones stares and not that he had been trying to hide them, but he was obviously more then he seemed as well her intake of his scent mingle with man and beast. “Do you serve him... or does he own you..” she questions simply curious about the boy as he seemed about her.

Fillin glanced at her for a second as he heard her question then he turned back to the crowd. "I serve him but I am free." He thought about what he had said and knew what he had told her was not completely true. He turned his attention away from the crowed street and looked straight at her. "Its not that simple though. We serve together. Our," He paused as he thought about the right word to use. "His weaknesses are my strengths and the same goes for my weaknesses." He smiled then shrugged. He looked at her for a minute then asked. "How old are you?" He wanted to know how old she was. It was so hard to tell with vampires, even Isaac's age was hard to pinpoint.

Isaac paid the stable hand and took the reins of the two horses and started to head back to the arena. He stopped as Esha and Fillin came into view and he leaned against the wall of one of the buildings across the street. He wanted to see what would happen between them. HE was sure Fillin was already asking her all question.

Eshe seemed less on guard with his question then she might have been with his Master. She hesitated all the same. "Do you wish to know how old I was before,, or all in total?.." She smirked seeming to point out he might want to be more precise with his questions to her. "I was in my 22nd year before I became this.. .. and its been nearly 10 since ... my change." She didn't go into detail and certainly didn't find any harm in admitting that small true of herself. "and you... and .. the other? " She asked hoping a game of sharing information would be followed by the young man. However she was still anxious to be away from this place, especially before the sun rose up too high.

Fillin had to smile when she pointed out his error. "All together." He went quick and listened to her nodded as she finished. "Your the youngest vampire that I have met. Other than a few that were less then a week old and had gone crazy already." He looked away as he finished but there had been a hint of something dark or painful in his eyes as he turned. He was quite for a minute before he answered her question. "Me I am sixteen and Isaac is," He paused and thought about it for a long time. "He is close to your age. Its hard to tell with him. I am sure he will tell you if you ask him."

Isaac had been watching the shadows carefully and decided that Fillin and Esha could talk more later. He crossed the street leading two horsed behind him. The animals seemed at ease even with the three beings around them when most horses would be nervous. "Fillin. Esha will take your horse so you can run with us." Fillin beamed at Isaac's words and took off his belt holding his sword and the arm band before storing them in a saddle bag. He went to the horses head and started to speak to it quietly as he waited for the other two to get ready.

Isaac swung up into the saddle and moved the horse slightly away from Esha and Fillin to give them room if needed. "The ride will take less than and hour. We live on the edge of the city and we will stick to the shaded streets." He had a few things he had planned to do but getting Esha back to the villa was more important and she really couldn't wait.

Eshe frowned at the boys response to having met others like herself. She’d been alive twice as long as him, and he had met others like her. Well she suppose the ones that had attacked and accidental left her for dead, so in morbid way she had met some like her, but none since. He mentioned they had already gone crazy, she’d wanted to ask about that but there was no time. Issac was returning.

She sensed him approaching as soon as he’d entered what she liked to all her ‘target’ zone. Within a certain sphere around her she was able to sense people moving closer or running away. It was like a 6th sense
or perhaps more the fact all her sense worked together in order to give her better sense of her surroundings. It was handy but even she could be over whelmed or taken by surprise in crowds.

She was tense as the pair of horses moved closer, since her change no horse would let her ride for more then a few steps at best. The beasts senses the curse in her, and smelled the blood on her breath. “It might be better.. “ She had started to say before she realized the horses’ heart beats were even and steady. They were reacting as she feared, rearing up and panicking as they caught her scent. Taking the horse’s reins given to her she hesitates. But she mounts the saddle and settles, relieved as the beast remained claim. She nodded to the Issac. “He will really run all the way?” she asked somewhat curious and concerned. Still pulling at the cloak and covering herself as best as possible, it was her legs that would get the worst of the exposure during the ride. The cloak would not cover low enough to protect them, but if they didn’t start moving the sun would be too high and she would be even worse off.

Isaac sat in the saddle relaxed as he watched her as she moved to the horse and slung up into the saddle. "The horse will not do anything to you. They are trained to stay calm with all of their riders." Fillin patted the horses neck and whispered to it before he glanced up at Esha's words and laughed.

He let go of the horse and walked off towards a near by alley. Just as he walked out of view Isaac laughed. "If he was aloud to he would run everywhere." He turned to her. " Come on lets get going. He will catch up." He nudged the horse forward slowly at first then as they passed the alley he sped up. A wolf ran out of the alley and in between the two horses. Isaac looked down at her wolf and seeing the clothes in its jaws he laughed then reached down taking the clothes from the wolf and putting them in a saddle bag. He looked at Esha. "He usually sets the pace. Do you feel up to that? He's fast." He wanted to make sure she would be able to keep up on the horse. Fillin for his part was looked at her waiting. If she said she was fine then he was going to bolt.

Eshe understood instantly, and felt rather naive as well. She’d smelled the scent of wild on him, thought he might spend too much time in the forests at night, perhaps pick up the scent from the beasts in cages. But instead she looked down at the same Fillin eyes, his looking up at her waiting an answer. “I’ll manage.. “ She nodded accepting whatever pace was chosen.

It had been a long time she had the pleasure of riding, though it felt like longer being trapped in the cell under the arena. Leaning into the saddle her thighs prepared to maneuver as the horse leap to follow the them. It was like a dream to be riding again, her legs quickly finding the rhythm of the galloping pace. She was so tempted to fall back and veer off, to just disappear. The problem of course was the sun already starting to mark her. Red patches of skin darkened by the minute.

However long the ride was she hadn’t bothered to try to determine. As the destination seemed to be insight her ride nearly over, all her focus fell on a stable coming into view and her eyes set on the structure unmoving. The moment she road inside she gasped and ground her teeth, her fangs having appeared as she’d gotten more damage from the sun than she’d hoped. Her lower arms were as red as rubies, her legs half brown-red burnt limbs. even her hood had slipped many times and her face was blotched with red patterns of skin. She clutched the reins and forced her eyes closed controlling the pain as she always had. To the horse’s credit it was still claim and steady beneath her.

Fillin shot forward as soon as he heard her answer. If he could he would stay in wolf form all the time but even he knew it was not safe. His senses had heighten as they ran and soon he was aware of everything from a mouse to a horse about to enter the road. He would move out of the way of carts even before they would appear and the horses would follow him as much as their riders allowed.

Isaac had kept even with Esha as much as possible throughout the ride. He did not think she would run, it was more that he wanted to watch her and see how she reacted now that she was out of the arena. He had freed more than a few people over the years and it had always done him good to get a good read of them before he tried to explain what he wanted and offered.

When they got to the villa he stopped his horse at the front gate and spoke with the guards. Fillin had broken off and was heading for a small pond when he noticed that the vampire kept heading for the stables. It took his mind a moment to think of why she would but when he realized he turned form the pond and followed her inside. He padded up beside her and looked at her legs for a moment then moved closer and started licking the burnt skin trying to sooth it. He looked up at her after a few seconds then went back to licking her leg.

"Control it, calm.. calm.." Eshe was telling herself as she noticed the wolf entering. Fillin's lick on her leg was un-felt, the nerves dead under the tongue's trying to soothe the injured area. But his blood was teasing her nose, the racing hearts of the horse and boy wolf both a loud drumming in her ears. A year ago she might not have been able to resist the urge to attack, might have slayed every living creature in the stable to soothe her burned skin. But if anything to be thankful for the arena had forced her to learn to control so much of her hunger.

Though slowly she had to step away from both boy-wolf and horse. "ENough.." she said the word perhaps a little sharper then she'd meant it to be. Though she didn't apologize, it was better he feared her, it would be better that way. She didn't want to hurt him, she just wanted to be left alone. Though as she moved away she was still trying to figure out where she was going to feed from, where she would stay for the day and where to go once the sun was no longer a risk. Perhaps they had a barn with other animals, and cellar for her to rest...
