The bell rang out in class, the classic sign that the day was over for the school kids. Hector, however, did not want that to be over just yet. He did not want to go home, Mainly Because he knew he would finish packing up, and then leaving to go to another town in a two hour drive. Not only are thr drives the most boring thing in the world, but now he has a new family. His mother died in a car accident about two years ago to a drunk driver. The only thing he really has that reminds him of her is her cremation, and the baby safety blanket he always kept when she made it for him when he was five. He always kept it in his room, folded, up on the shelf. He did not know how his new family would take it.

before he realized it he was home. after he put his car into park, he started getting things from his room into his car, which was a hand-me-down full size E-150 passenger van. It was cool when he could carpool 7 of his friends at once. But now he wouldn't see that much of them anymore. Not to mention he had to quit his job because there was no job openings at the other Staples. He felt that his life may have hit rock bottom. Feeling better that the only way was up, he finished packing, waited for his dad to finish, then they took off, with Hector following his dad.

Jayne sighed as she and her mom pulled up to their new place. A slight frown crossed her face at the sight of the ugly van already in the drive. You’d think a guy would have a better taste for a car, but no, this ugly ass piece of junk belong to her new step brother. She rolled her eyes at her mother, as if to say, seriously?

Jayne’s father had died when she was five in a work related accident. They say don’t RIP through construction zones, Jayne knew first hand why assholes shouldn’t speed through them; it could cost someone their life, and someone could lose their Dad, just like she had.

Oh, she was happy Mom had finally FINALLY found someone she’d wanted to try living with again. However, she was seriously unhappy, that they had eloped two weekends ago while on a conference trip in Vegas(can we say cheeeezie) She was even more unhappy that the ‘compromise’ meant them leaving their house to move into this “new” place three hours away to live as One Big Happy...as if. How was it a compromise if everyone had to start over?

She got out of the car and slammed the door, maybe harder than she thought she did, but severed her mom right. Silent treatment was right up her alley.

Hector was already packing and putting things in his room, which was right next door to hers, sharing a bathroom. at least its not joining ... that would be akward he thought, as his 6 foot frame walked into it. it was smaller than what he was used to, but big enough for two people. He looked into the mirror, to find that he yet again gained more weight. Although he still looked great at 240, he could if he wanted to turn it into muscle. But then he would be a jock, this and that, and that is what he did not want.

He was walking towards the front door, and heard a car door slam. looks like someone else isnt as happy as i am either. he commented to himself, as he went outside. He saw what he thought was his new step sister walking towards the house. no car? he thought, then knew the economic times they lived in, and probably couldn't afford it. He barley could afford the van in gas and car insurance.

"Hey.." was all he was able to muster, as he moved to one side for her.

Her green eyes falshed to his, sparks snapping in them. He was massive. It wasn't often she felt small. At 5'9 she was one of the tallest girls in her class usually. She was not a diminutive girl, her figure was pleasing to look at, but she was solid from years of Judo, something she never bragged about, but could pull if someone got in her face.

Her eyes flicked over him, and she dismissed him as she walked past, muttering a "hey yourself" back to him, tossing her glossy brown wavy hair over her shoulder as she did. So this was the bruiser who owned the creepy make-out van. Great, aside from a handsome face her new Stepbrother could be a poster-boy for sexual assault forum on what to watch out for, actually maybe even more so BECAUSE of his face.

She rolled her eyes as she made her way into the house. Basement, her mother had said. She opened the one door still closed and discovered her room, which was thankfully a decent size. She frowned at the bathroom. It was nice; it had dual sinks, a large soaker tub, with the shower tucked to one side and a toilet to the other, but it meant it was made for two. Her and...oh THAT was great, she didn't even know his name, how awkward was that? His room matched hers in size and basically was the mirror opposite of it, sharing a wall. Jayne rolled her eyes again, this was just great. She heard her mother yelling at her, in that tone she had, Jayne took the stairs two at a time and popped back out side.

"Yes mom?" She said in the sweetest voice she could manage. Here came the introductions, she smiled sweetly as her eyes flicked back to her new brother, who looked a bit shocked to be stuck having a conversation with "Mom" on the front lawn.

Hector was shocked and then again not shocked by the bitterness within her voice of not caring. He wondered how this was going to fully work if she had no interest to him. He went to go back to the van, when he thought about what the van looked like. He chuckled, as his friends always made fun of him about it being the "stalker van". He went to the back of the van, and grabbed two more boxes, as he started to walk back to the house. Then his father called out to him, and he noticed his father was with a woman he now knew was the step mother. As he studied her, he noticed the resemblance between her and her daughter. hopefully she is not a firey and cold. he said with a slight smile.

He walked on over there, and his father smiled. "Ahh, there is my boy. His name is Hector, as you well know. he is my pride and Joy. Say hello son, to your new mom." Hector put down his things and held out his hand. "Hello." He said with a slight smile. It was going to be awkward for a few days he could tell. then she yelled out Jayne which scared him a little as it came out of nowhere. So thats her name ... I wonder if she knew mine? didnt give me much of a chance ... He then scratched his head and then asked, "Sorry, but I forgot your name?" He said with a embarrassed chuckle.

Jayne watched as her mom introduced herself to the bear of a brother she now had.

"My name ic Carol, you can please call me that, I hope some day we can get to me being mom, but I know that will take time." She watched her mother give him a sweet smile, before turning her wrath to Jayne.

"This is my very spoiled daughter Jayne, Jayne this is Hector, your brother, and his father. I expect you to make every effort to be nice to them both, and listen to them. This is a new situation for us all, but it will work better if you aren't a bitch."

Jayne had been looking to Hector and then his father, he looked like a young beefed up carbon copy of his old man, she guessed that was a good thing knowing what you'd look like when you got old, she got that all the time from looking at her mom. Her head snapped back to attention as her mother said the word "bitch", venom dripping from the word. Yep she'd been taught by the master alright, the venoumus barb had found it's mark, bringing heat to her cheeks.

Jayne looked to Hector, "I'm sorry, I should have introduced myself." She pushed back past the two men and retreited into the solace of her room, leaving the door ajar, as she started to fill her closet.

Hector saw the tension she had, and almost fell when he heard her mother say that to her. wow this woman is .. rough? he couldn't figure out a proper word for it. kinda reminds me of mom a little .. always blunt and bossy. As Jayne walked away he smiled and said, "I should get finished. I have to get up in the morning to meet with my new Staples employees, and Figure when i start work again. Nice to meet you, Carol. Dad." He nodded to his father, picked up his boxes, and walked to his room. Jack, his dad, smiled at him as he went into the house.

Hector walked past, and looked inside her room as he did, and noticed she was already unpacking. that was fast ... I thought girls had a lot of junk? He thought, as he went into his room. He counted the boxes, before noticing he needed two more from his van, and he walked back out to get them. His dad and his new step mom now gone from the lawn, he sat there, and observed the neighborhood he was now going to stay at. not bad i guess. It's not Lacey, But it is something. He got his two boxes and headed back to the room.

Jayne flooped onto the floor with a cussion under her head, and a book by her side. She wasn't a super girly girl, so she didn't have alot of clothes, and what she did have was all hangable stuff. Aside from her unmentionables and her socks, that had to go in the dresser, once her closet was filled she was done, untill the movers showed up with the rest of things...like her bed for one.

She lay on her stomach, knees bent and feet in the air, crossed at her ankles as she pulled out the paperback she was reading. She looked at the cover of the romance, the drawing of the guy on the front was attractive enough. She settled in, she was just getting to the good part. Door still open, she was in the direct line of view of passerbyes in the hall, she wanted to be on top of things when the movers showed up. Ducking her head she began to read, her hair falling in an alluring cascade about her face as she burried her nose in the book.

She heard the sound of someone coming down the stairs, from the weight, it sounded like it had to be her new brother. She listened as he approached, pretending to still read, her hair vieling her eyes, she watched the door, to catch a glimpse of him walking by.

Hector got to the bottom, and with a hop-skip, caught his balence from going down the stairs too fast. That was close ... he thought, as he went into his room, glancing over as he noticed she was reading a book. thats one thing we will have somewhat in common ... i doubt she reads the same stuff i do. He went in his room, and dropped the boxes. He started to open some of them, and got some tools out as well as the metal pieces to the frame of the bed. He started to put it together, not really being careful with the noise. He was always use to being the only one, so respect for another sibling didn't come out.

As he finished putting it together, he put it where he wanted , and then started to put his own clothing items away, leaving his electronics, gaming devices, and his computers in their respective boxes. After everything was said and done, he now had to figure out how to get his dresser and bed down the stairs. His buddies were there to pack it but forgot about the unpacking part. He knew he had almost no choice, as he knew very well his dad and Carol were busy as well. He stepped out of his room, and knocked lightly on her door. "Umm ... I need a bit of help .."

She looked up from her spot on the floor.

"Sure," she got up dusting off carpet fuzz, and joining him out in the hall. "What do you need?" She looked up at him. He seemed okay, aside from the creeper van. She knew it wasn't his fault they were here stuck hours from friends. She sighed.

"School is going to suck on Monday huh?" She said following him. Monday meant a new school for them both, and new challenges, something she wasn't looking forward to, as someone who was pretty quiet and kept to a tight circle of friends Jayne was really not looking forward to it.
