Out in the middle of nowhere, or at least far enough away from most civilized cities and actually in a very strange area that bordered three separate kingdoms in three different directions stood a large black tower surrounded by two leagues of thick growth. While it was odd enough seeing so much green in the middle of plains this tower was left completely alone by the traveling caravans who spied it as they passed by on a main merchant road connecting the three kingdoms. To put it simply there just were too many stories about horrible, terrible, and otherwise nasty things that happened there most people just left it alone but in all actuality it was the kingdoms who didn't want the tower owner bothered by their citizens for a very good reason. Lox was the name of the tower's master and he was someone spoken of in secret at best and only in whispers due to the strangeness and uncertainty of just how far his powers extended. Only a few things were known about him, and those things were enough to keep all sane individuals away considering only madmen would attempt to go anywhere near a mage that was a neko. Yes Lox was one of the only mages his species had ever boasted in the entire world but then again his kind were never known for patients, an attention span that lasted longer than ten seconds, or any great ability to retain huge sums of knowledge for long periods of time. All these things made for terrible magic users, and whenever he did leave his tower for something in the cities he was avoided with a fear that he might just suddenly explode for no good reason.
Regardless of how terrible a neko should be as a mage the other reason Lox was left to his own devices was because by means undetermined by even the mages guild he was capable of creating items and spells of such destructive force no one was willing to directly bother him with anything whatsoever. No one had even known his name until a particularly blood thirsty Orc hoard had attempted to push into the kingdom to the southwest of Lox's tower, and the area where the hoard had been marching through was to this day still named the blasted field for the earth that had been burned down to glass in some places. Lox's only statement as to why he had completely annihilated an Orc incursion was he was simply experimenting with a spell he had devised in his free time thus ensuring he was never bothered, taxed, or otherwise demanded from any royalty who valued their lives. There were talks about trying to marry him off to a kingdoms princess for the sheer fear affect he would have on neighboring countries but no one had effectively been around him long enough to try a seduction. Like a lot of his kind he had an odd attractiveness that came with being a neko, and quite a bit of their mannerisms as well as a jittery kind of disposition but those were the only things he really shared with other nekos. He was far taller than his species had a right to be standing nearly six feet and four inches he was also a lot more heavily built than the common lanky or compact kitties living over the world.
Currently Lox was wondering through his gardens with his tail swaying lazily behind him trying to occupy his time with something else besides the plethora of experiments still demanding his attention in the tower. Though the gardens boundaries were outlined with eight foot tall black marble walls he could sense travelers not too far off passing by and eying his home with suspicion and not a small bit of dread that made him sigh. He was seriously thinking about going out into the city again just to have the same effect of wacking the shit out of a bee hive. People running away, guards running with weapons drawn, guards running away, mages guild representative trying to be very nice but actually very mad, lots of invitations, and then leaving as if nothing happened sounded oh so good after a long spell of study and magical experimentation but he did have critters here to keep him company. Looking into the small lake not too far from his home he waved and smiled gently at the two undines playing underneath the water and got a wave back before they sped away down the river running around the tower and back again. Sighing he returned to his solitary walk when something had his tail pointing straight back and his ears perked with interest. Someone was coming to his gates, a someone with quite a bit of magic to spare and obviously intent on his home but for what he wondered? Everything within the walls were warded to keep unwanted guests from just popping up uninvited, and gods forbid anyone trying to sneak over the wall for the mess their bodies would make after being frozen, shocked, stabbed, burned, and otherwise mangled with the wards in places so a friendly knock on the front gate from a fellow mage?
