The alliance between the United Nations of Earth and the Saur Empire used to be a firmly established treaty of cooperation and friendship. 20 years ago, these two interstellar powers joined forces against a common enemy that had been the millennium old nemesis of the Saur, and the biggest threat to the human race at the time. That enemy, the enigmatic Vrok, where eventually thrown back into a position where they could not threaten anyone for decades to come.

What followed was a time of human prosperity, expansion and technological achievements. The alliance was a shaky one once there was no overwhelming threat to force both parties into a position where they simply had to work together or face total defeat. Now they bickered and argued, and the rising nationalist tensions within the Saur Empire where growing with each year. It was believed that the humans didn't bring anything beneficial to the Saur, but that they where instead a liability and a potential threat. If the humans grew in power, the Saur might face two enemies on two fronts in the future. The relationship between these powers where further damaged once the fledgling human colony 'Sagittarius" was built on the frontier space, closer to the Saur borders than any other previous colony. The United Nations of Earth had unwittingly encroached on Saur territory, as the Saur Imperial officials claimed a probe 70 years prior had mapped this region and space and claimed it for 'future expansion'.

Nothing more was said, other than the humans would either surrender the colony, with or without the colonists, or expect military conquest of that area of space. There didn't seem to be any discussion between these powers, but the image that the entire empire was behind this position was false. One minor faction, minor but very influential, was opposed to this jingoistic decision to provoke the humans, the Saur's former brothers-in-arms. In defiance of the political apparatus of the Saur Empire, this faction requested to meet with "any human political group that could influence the human governments" to negotiate in this conflict. The United Nations of Earth received this message quickly, and the experts on Saur politics urged that the government's own diplomats should met with them. So, a meeting was set.

Despite the vagueness of this group and its intentions, the "experts" thought it could prove to be a good opportunity to get an influential party to speak on the humans behalf inside the Empire. Little was known about this faction, but it was suspected that they could be just what the UNE needed right now. Intelligence confirmed that this faction was an important group in Saur politics and on the Saur socialite, and even the intelligence agency urged for this meeting.

It was decided to take place on the Saur outpost Cremnoch, only a few light years away from the Sagittarius colony. This outpost was orbiting a gas giant, and this station was the only habitable place in the entire system. It was a space station with the combined missions of serving as a resupply station and as a observation post. It would very soon come to serve as an embassy of sorts. It was large, bulky and unpainted like most other Saur space constructions, with a large ring construction that spun around the main structure. The ring itself used the rotation itself for it's gravity, while only the smaller central structure used the more expensive artificial gravity systems. It was fully staffed, and this mysterious human benefactor faction had already sent their delegates to meet with the human party on their station. All they had to do know, was to wait for their arrival. Then they could discuss the future of the Sagittarius colony, the Saur Empire's position towards the human colonies, and potentially the entire future of the human species as a political actor in the interstellar stage.

  • During times of political distress, the ambassador was seldom seen. He would occassionally make appearances at social functions to mention whatever it was weighing heavy on his heart and would disappear as quickly as he would arrive. His subjects called him a kind hearted but stern man, one who was not afraid to make sacrifical choices. However, they lived in ignorance. Unbeknownst to them - as they went about their busy, meaninglessly lives - a higher power dictated the choices made by their precious democrat. This shadow was of complete human decent despite their "alien" upbringing. This particular level of the human democratic hierarchy was kept completely secret from all but three people.

Peace, as of late, was growing increasingly difficult to faciliate. Humans grew frantic with the mention of invading saur colonists. The Saur were superior to human beings on several different levels. Once the humans grew cognizant of this evolutionary difference, they became panicked and fearful of a potential colinzation. At the time the appointed ambassador - a man by the name of Rusko Bast - had agreed to arrangements instilled by UNE along with several Saur democrats. If there was any party that was influential, Rusko Bast and his triumverate would most definitely be able to flaunt their persuasive prowess.

Ambassador Bast carefully disembarked his vessel at the behest of his praetorian, a term modern day democrats had coined their personal bodyguards. Unlike tradition, the ambassador's praetorian was female rather then male. However, her difference in gender did not hinder her abilities to protect her superior. Praetorians were meant to be silent, obediant predators that would spring at the behest of their "owners". They were meant to be objects; tools. Her occupation was to serve as the ambassador's sword and shield, to lay down her life the instant he would so much whisper the command.

Because of this occupation, praetorians often bore a mask of their choosing to hide their identity. Bast's praetorian - named Messiah - was garbed in a theater-like mask. The mouth was smiling incredulously, its maw filled to the brim with sharp, eerily twisted teeth.

"The air here is so stagnant," Bast commented half-heartedly. He examined the corridor with nonexistent enthusiasm while his praetorian followed behind him. Her footfalls were virtually soundless while his were lethargic and somewhat sloppy. He appeared almost restless as he bounded about, eying the Saur-designed craft with intrigued perception. If anything Bast appeared to be a very unprofessional, green democrat. That, however, was a misunderstanding. He was a political genius despite his appearance and childish mannerisms.
