Amy made her way out of school feeling pretty wonderful. It promised to be one hell of a weekend. Halloween was the next day, and there was a huge party at Kelly's house, whose parents were apparently out of town all weekend. At home, Amy had her maid uniform hanging up in her closet, ready to be worn to stun all those who looked upon her. But there was just one set of eyes she cared about - Kevin's. She'd had her eyes on him since September and every other girl knew it. Anyone who took him from her would suffer her wrath for the rest of the school year.
Of course, like anyone else, her life had its difficulties as well. As great as everything was at school, home life tended to be pretty disappointing. Her parents were likely to be gone most of the day at work, so she was on her own for dinner as usual. She never really looked forward to going home. It was almost always empty, and a house as big as hers - the kind that required maids to clean it properly - felt doubly empty and depressing. School was fun because she was surrounded by friends and admirers. Parties, the mall, the movies, these were all great. But something about her own home seemed to be almost painfully lonely.
All these thoughts and more were spinning through her head as she wandered down the sidewalk slowly, her bag slung over one shoulder. Her curly hair blowing gently in the breeze, as was her plaid uniform skirt. Her heels clicked softly against the concrete, alerting anyone nearby to her presence.
