He watched her from across the street, her curtains pulled open and framing her beautiful form as she prepared herself for bed. Obvious to the pair of yellow eyes that tracked her every movement she seemed so innocent, so pure, like a ray of sunlight in the darkness. To a creature such as himself she was a work of art.

Shrouded in darkness he stood on the rooftop of the building across the street. He had been there for hours, unmoving, never taking his eyes off of her as he planned his next move carefully. Even now the urge to break through her window and bite into her neck, he could see it from here as precious lifeblood pumped through it, and devour her. But no, he could not fall prey to his own base instincts. This woman was to be the savior of his race, even if she didn't know it.

But he would ensure it, even if he had to drag her kicking and screaming into the abyss.

With a single step he fell from the roof, falling several stories only to land gracefully on his feet unarmed. As he fell into the shadows once more he licked his lips, thinking to himself "Though one little bite wouldn't hurt..."

Vanessa lived a fairly dull life she wasn't one of those girls who went out partying or clubbing with friends every night. She went to school and she went to work and she loved to read and sometimes she went out with her friends and had the occasional date. She wouldn't say that she was boring but she definitely wasn't very exciting.

She looked out into the night from her apartment window, she tilted her head and ran her hand through her long brown hair. It seemed so quiet out there tonight, like not even the small animals were out and about. No squirrels and birds, she sighed and leaned into the window lifting the heavy pane to let in the warm breeze. She took a deep breath and walked away from the window to continue her nightly bedtime routine.

She sat at her vanity and ran the brush through her hair she then slowly braided it and went to the bathroom to wash her face. Once everything was done she kicked out of her slippers and pulled back the blankets on her bed and climbed in, with the head she didn't bother pulling the blankets over her. Going through everything one last time to make sure everything was taken care of she flicked off her lights and let herself drift off to sleep.
