The warm feel of dragon's scales beneath her and the feel of its muscles working as it flew made Kayla feel safe. She knew the sun was sinking below the horizon and making the sky grow darker and darker, so it was no surprise she felt so tired. Especially after such an eventful day they had....It was never easy for her and her boyfriend Luke to hide two fully-grown dragons in the modern world.
With the steady rythym of the dragons' wings, she soon drifted to sleep.
Her dream was quite vivid, as they always were. But, strangely enough...it was of a memory. One she could never forget.
It had been about six years ago. Luke and her were good friends and always loved to hang out with each other; they were always so inseperable. One day Luke had come by--he was eleven and Kayla was just ten--and they decided they wanted to go exploring through the woods surrounding her house.
"C'mon Kayla, it'll be fun!" Luke had insisted with the silly grin he had been known for.
"Okay, okay. I've always wanted to see what's there," she had said.
So the two got on their shoes, said good-bye to Kayla's parents, and then went out into the woods. The sun was shining in the middle of the sky so it was still very bright and easy to see. Luke was in the lead and would hold branches out of Kayla's way or warn her of where a spider web might be since spiders had been her worst fear and still were.
They hadn't found anything very interesting until about ten minutes later where they stumbled upon some old shed-looking thing. The metal had rusted and the sides were bent with the door wide open. "W-What is that?" Kayla had asked in awe, staring at it with wide eyes.
"I don't know," Luke had murmured back to her. "C'mon, let's look closer!" Kayla sighed and couldn't do anything else but to follow him. They cautiously peered inside the doorway and didn't know what they were looking at.
The entire inside of the shed was charred, like it had been set on fire. There was nothing in there except a large pile of rocks in the middle that surrounded two huge stones, each one easily two feet tall and completely smooth; one was gold and the other was a deep, dark blue.
"What are those?" Luke asked as they both stood around them.
"I dunno....They feel warm!" Kayla exclaimed as she pressed her hand against the blue one. Luke did the same to the gold one and opened his mouth to say something, but the words died in his throat as there was a large cracking sound. Both of them gave yelps of surprise and hurried out of the shed as cracks grew on the eggs and they began to shake. Suddenly both eggs split open and a creature spilled out from each.
The two peeked back inside and stared at them. They looked similar: reptilian, covered in scales, sharp claws, horns, sharp teeth...and wings.
Kayla suddenly woke up with a bit of a groan, noticing it was the middle of the night. The dragon she was on was still flying strong, which she knew was good. Yawning, she sat up and stretched her arms out with a content sigh and then ran a hand through her wavy dark brown hair that ran down to nearly her waist. Her sharp green eyes looked up to the sky with all the twinkling stars and the strange, smiling crescent moon.
'Well....At least it's peaceful,' she thought with a small smile and couldn't help but to yawn again. She adjusted her jeans and long-sleeved dark purple shirt she wore before patting the neck of the dark blue dragon she rode.
"Hey Nylsugo, you doing okay?" she asked him with a smile.
