Lily looked around her new apartment. It was weird. She had spent her entire life with her parents and now she was alone. She ran a hand through her long brown hair. It was a nervous habit, one that she had acquired from her mother who also ran her hand through her hair whenever she was nervous or at a loss for words. Pushing some boxes off of her new loveseat, she sat down and put her head in her hands. Anxiety was not an attractive trait.
"You have nothing to worry about. " She instructed herself. People didn't go out of their way to hurt others. Right? With a new vigor she set about cleaning and putting things in their rightful place. Hours passed and night fell, a cool wind blew back the white, thin curtains that covered her window. Lily heard music and people laughing. She needed friends. That's exactly what she needed. Her parents would want her to make friends right?
Marching into her room, she grabbed a springy blue dress and a pair of white sandals. After a quick shower she changed and took a quick look in the mirror. With her long hair curled, and a little bit of make up applied she actually felt pretty confident. Grabbing a couple bracelets she left her apartment, locking the door behind her. She took a deep breath and headed to the bar across the street. 'How hard could it be?' She wondered stepping inside.
The room was dark and smoky. It was not at all what she expected. She saw small groups talking amongst themselves. Most wore darker clothing, or exposed more skin. Eighteen year old Lily felt completely out of place. Turning she headed back for the entrance but something stopped her. She needed to get used to people. Make friends. Taking a deep calming breath she headed for the bar. "Could I have a coke please?" The bartender looked her once over before handing it to her. Lily muttered a soft thank you and turned her attention to her drink.
