Yumi heaved a quiet sigh, before running a hand through her orange-red bangs. She looked around with her golden eyes before sitting down beneath the tree she had taken shelter on. Her feet were killing her and there was still no sign of her fiance. Maybe he was in that village that loomed in the distance. It would be sunset in a few hours, so she needed to hurry and get there. But before she could, she had to rest her tired feet. She had been walking and running for what seemed like days, with no sign of that wretched man. She couldn't believe he had just left like that. Then again, he had never seemed too keen on the marriage. Though, she was, undoubtedly, madly in love with him. She had really been looking forward to the union. Not to mention, it would make her Lady of their people... and make her father proud. She thought he was overreacting when he said she couldn't come home until she found him, but the fox demoness soon realized that her father was playing no game.

Without a leader, the people would ruin. They needed someone to look up to and for someone to look out for them. To have abandoned his people at their time of need, with his father's death, it was unspeakable. But he had done it, nonetheless. The girl was beyond frustrated. She had been following his scent and it seemed stronger. She rested for about thirty minutes before rising and trudging on to the nearby village. Once she passed through the gates, she received a few stares from the resident humans. She really hoped this wasn't a town where demons weren't welcome. But no one had seemed to really stop her from entering. She frowned lightly, still following his scent. He had to be around here, somewhere!

The female sighed again, brushing some of her bangs from her face as she looked around. Maybe she would get a room at the local inn, clear her head and get some well needed sleep, before going after him again. He couldn't run forever. Despite the fact that he had abandoned her and their people, her love still outshone her frustration with him. She just hoped he would come back willingly so they could get married and rule.

Yumi was a young fox demoness, that came up to a height of five foot three inches. She had just the right curves and long orange-red hair. Her eyes were a keen golden color, her pupils slitted slightly like that of a fox's. She had fox ears and a tail. The bells on her clothing and in her hair jingled softly with each step she took, growing wearier and wearier by the second. Finally, she had to stop and sat down on a bench outside of a tea house and rubbed the back of her neck. This seemed almost hopeless. But it was either find proof of his death, bring him home, or make a new home and forsake her people. But her father and the rest of the clan were counting on her. Sure, another leader could be elected but her father was a stubborn man. He had been good friends with her fiance's father. The scent of food made her mouth water and she looked towards the entrance of the tea house, debating on if she should go in and get some food before finding the inn.

She had traveled such a long way from her homeland. The culture and style of dress were similar to the one back at home, so it wasn't necessary to buy new clothing. Her father had given her a decent amount of money to do her for the trip. Even he hadn't known how long she might be gone for. She just hoped her husband-to-be would be cooperative and not selfish. She sighed, wiggling her toes in her sandals before looking down at the dirt covered ground. She felt so exhausted.

Noah let a gentle sigh escape from between his parted lips, a brisk breath allowed only by him. He swept his hand over the counter of the tea house he worked at, lifting his hand to his face. Finding it devoid of dust, dirt or grime like the owner absolutely hated, he wiped his hand off on his shirt before leaning against the counter, back to the people eating. Which werent many; as it was still a fairly underground place. Not that the food wasn't good, or thugs gathered; just not many people knew of the small place.

Noah looked up as he heard footsteps, seeing the owner coming in his general direction. Noah cringed a little, hoping for the best. A visit from the owner, who usually busied himself counting the money in the back, or taking stock of supplies, never meant something good.
Until today.
"I'd like to congratulate you Noah. You've been doing a fine job here in my workplace. I've seen the customers walk out satisfied, I know it. I'd just like to say, keep up the good work." Noah nodded softly and cast his glance in another direction. The owner frowned, wondering what was wrong for a moment before shaking his head and walking to the back again. Noah leaned further against the counter, letting his mind roam.

The reason for his unhappiness was quite simple. Noah lived here at the tea house. His parents had both died during a large fire, leaving him to fend for himself. His uncle had taken him up, for farm work. Once again, Noah had been dumped like a worthless lump here at the tea house when his uncle said he needed 'a mentor'. Well, the owner served as a mentor for being fat, greedy and lazy, none of the three which described Noah. Noah stood at five foot and seven inches, had shoulder length white hair (it had been bleached by the heat and flames of the fire), and was fairly lithe, although semi muscular. No, he wasn't a damned bodybuilder, but he wasn't scrawny, either.

His dark green eyes scanned over the house as he thought about how much he would love to just get back to a simple life, farming with his uncle; anything but this. He had to work for the damned greed in the back, which was just a pain, an itch to Noah. He shook his head softly, still not believing how in the world he had ended up here in the first place. He didn't want to believe it, either.

The fox demoness soon could not resist the delicious smell of food that wafted from the tea house. She rose from her position on the bench and ducked inside of the tea house, golden eyes scanning the entire area for any sign of her fiance. When seeing nothing, she ignored any looks that she might receive and entered the building more, tail swishing slightly behind her while her ears twitched. The food smelled delicious and she couldn't help but wonder if they served her favorite food: chicken and dumplings. She looked around more before making her way to a vacant table and sat down, smoothing down her clothing.

It was getting harder and harder to have hope about the situation. Would sh ever find her fiance? No, she had to have hope. She would find him. She had to. Her father and people were counting on her. She didn't know why she had been sent but she had accepted the task nonetheless. She may have looked innocent and helpless, but she knew how to defend herself if need be. She pulled a pouch of money from somewhere and placed it on the table, staring down at it.

Noah heard the door opening, looking from his pereforeals to see... a demon! walk in the door. At first, he was rooted to the spot in surprise. He had never seen a demon before, only heard of them. However, no matter who she was, she was now here; and a customer at that. And damn, the owner, Mr. Crips, would be pretty peeved if Noah lost him potential customers. Noah turned and vaulted over the counter, too lazy to walk around. Or maybe not.

He walked up to the table and sat down across from her, smiling softly. "Hello there. Can I get you anything? Food, drink? You look tired," he said, and being tired usually led to being hungry. She looked like a traveller, and they got a lot of this here. They would stay for the time being and then move on when they were ready to. But just her being a demon intrigued Noah, though his non-reveleant expression did not show this. He just waited for a reply, happy to satisfy a customer.

Because that was his life, however damned it seemed to him.

Yumi blinked when he walked over to her and sat down in front of her. She then realized that he was either a friendly customer or he worked here. "Do you work here? I was wondering if chicken and dumplings were served here... if not, what other kind of food is served? And some tea might be good too. Assuming you work here. I apologize if you're a fellow customer." The demoness blushed slightly, resting her hands on her lap.

"I'm Yumi. You haven't seen another fox demon around these parts, have you? It would be a male. I'm looking for my future husband. He left our home and I was sent to find him... but I've had no luck and I can't return home unless I have him with me or proof of his death." She didn't know why she was so easily spilling all of this information, but maybe it was because she was tired. Not to mention, she really did need to know if he had seen someone that fit her description.

Noah nodded softly as she spoke. "...well, yeah, I can make you chicken and dumplings. Not a problem. And I assume since this is a tea house, you can have tea with that, no?" He chuckled softly and smiled to her. Well, until she started describing him. He put on a thoughtful look and nodded. "...yeah. I'll get back to you on that. Just give me... a few minutes." He stood and walked around the counter this time, going to prepare her food.

He came out some twenty minutes later with her food and tea, setting it down in front of her. He sat down across from her again, leaning back a little and folding his hands in his lap. "Well, now that you mention it, I have heard tell of another fox demon in this part. Male, yes." He paused and swallow. "Well, the fact that he's your... fiancé, that might be a problem. The reason I've heard is because he's taken a fancy of a girl in this town. An old friend of mine. But I haven't seen or talked to her in ages."

Her face lit up when he mentioned that he could make her some chicken and dumplings. "Thank you!" She said, bowing slightly as best as she could with the table in the way. She nodded and watched him go, waiting for him to return. When he did and started talking, her heart sank. She had been excited that he had seen another fox demon that might be her fiance. But the thought of him being interested in some other girl.. well that upset her, even if it might not even be him.

"Do you... do you know where he's staying? I'm not certain if it's him but I should know him on sight and by his scent. His scent was pretty strong around these parts. Also, thank you for the food." She pulled a decent amount of money from the pouch and slid it over to him. "Will this be enough?"

Noah counted off the money he needed and despite what the owner would probably do, handed her back the spare money. "This should be enough." He watched her eat, deep in thought. He imagined him in his mind as he had been described to him... he had a rough image, but it was a little more clear now that he had met another fox demon, even if she was a demoness. After awhile, he looked back at her when she was done eating.

"I could show you to where they would be, if you like. Tomorrow, at least. It's getting late and bringing you there would be rather intrusive, and I don't believe that would make anyone happy. Especially if it's not the right demon." The boy shrugged and looked at another table, before focusing his gaze on her again. "I could let you stay here the night. There's a room, and I'm the only one who actually lives here, since I really don't have much anywhere else to go. So you could stay the night if you'd like, for free; instead of staying in a tavern full of drunks."

She placed the spare money back into the pouch and tied it before beginning to eat. She savored the taste and marveled at how delicious it tasted. He had done a good job. Once she had finished both her food and tea, she turned to focus on him."I'd like that. You're really kind. What's your name?" She smiled at him, not letting her slight fangs show. She had already introduced herself but he had yet to give her a name. "And are you sure you don't want any payment for me spending the night here?"

She didn't mind paying him for it, but she did appreciate the offer. It would be better than staying at the other place. She shifted, hands folding on her lap again while her tail curled slightly around her body.

Noah chuckled softly. "Yes; I'm sure. I don't own the place, so I can't even really collect money for you staying here, anyways." He smiled to her, shifting his hands to his pockets. "My name's Noah, as far as I can remember," he replied with a smirk. Noah really was the kind of person who was hard to get down once he was in a good mood. And this? This qualified as a good mood.

He led her into the back once she was done and he had cleared her dishes. He opened a door to reveal a small sleeping room, furnished with a bed and small desk. Not small in height, but in width. He gestured to the bed. "You can sleep there. I usually sleep on the roof, anyways. I prefer sleeping under the stars." Noah smiled softly to himself. "Just feels more... fitting to me."

"Thank you," Yumi said with a bow before straightening and looking around the room. She immediately moved to the bed and slipped out of her shoes. "I'm really tired, especially now that I've eaten. I think I'll go ahead and get some sleep. Then you can show me to the demon's place tomorrow." She smiled at him before laying down on the bed and curled up beneath the covers.

In almost no time, the female demon was sound asleep, even though he hadn't even left yet. She had been that tired and the bed was extremely comfortable to her especially since she had been sleeping in trees or on the hard ground.

Noah smiled softly as he watched her fall asleep ever so quickly. He pulled up the covers up to her chin, tucking her tail into the covers as it was hanging out. He tucked her in and went to the window, opening it and climbing up, onto the roof. He laid beneath the stars that night, Noah smiling as he closed his eyes.

The next morning brought the smell of an early beeakfast wafting throughout the tea house. They didn't open until lunch time, so Noah had no interruption in making a breakfast for two. This was the first.. being he had actually had as a guest, ever; here. He planned to make the stay well doing, for she would probably leave soon after her visit to the other demon. It saddened him a little, but he kept a smile on.

Yumi slept the entire night until morning came. She stirred and then sat up, yawning softly as her golden eyes opened. She took a moment to freshen up before getting out of bed and putting her shoes back on. Before leaving the room, she quickly made the bed and exited the room, following the scent of food. She smiled slightly, running a hand through her bangs as she found him. "It smells delicious. Is that for both of us?" She asked, hoping that it was because she was now hungry again. "By the way, last night's dinner was excellent. I meant to compliment you but it slipped my mind. I guess because I was tired."

She blushed lightly and shifted on her feet, watching him. "Are you a human? You have strange hair for a human, so I was just wondering." She chuckled softly, crossing her arms over her chest.

Noah turned his head to look over his shoulder, smiling and nodding. "Of course. I wouldn't forget about my guest, Eh? That would just be plain old rude," he said, turning over some of the food. He put it on a plate to cool a little before eating. However, when coming into mention of his hair, his smile faded. This was one of the subjects that could really kill his enthusiasm over... anything.

"Yeah, I'm human.... I'd rather... rather not discuss my hair. It's..." his voice trailed off and he sighed, picking up the food. He set it down at a table for the two of them, pulling her chair out for her and then pushing it back in. He sat and scooted up to the table, dishin out food for both of them, in silence.

"I apologize. I did not mean to cause offense or sorrow," She said, frowning lightly as she took note of his reaction. The color of his hair was obviously a sore spot for him and she felt horrible for having brought it up so carelessly. But then again, she hadn't known. "I really am sorry.." She said softly, frowning as her ears drooped slightly. She sat down at the table, nodding in thanks to him pulling out the chair before she focused on him. "The food smells great. I know I said that already, but it really does."

She was trying to think of a way to cheer him up but it was hard because she barely knew him. She had a nurturing nature. So she hated seeing him sad or bothered.

Noah sighed softly, parted lips letting the sorrowed breath escape his kind. "Its... it's okay," he started. "You didn't know." He was just toying with his food for quite some time, deep in thought, before he actually began eating. Even then he ate slowly, until he finally began to regain his normal pace. "It's... it's just... my parents."

He had yet to ever explain it fully to anyone but his uncle. But yet, here he was, talking it out with a fox demoness. The fire, his dead family, his bleached hair, everything was said. He stopped at the end by finishing his food, leaning back in his chair. It sort of felt... nice to have that out of his system.

Yumi remained silent, listening intently to what he said. Her eyes watered in sorrow for him. She felt so bad for him. In fact, she wanted nothing more than to hop over the table and wrap her arms around him and protect him from further harm. She really did have a nurturing personality. "I'm sorry, Noah. My mother died when I was little. I don't really remember her, but what I do... it makes me sad, because she's no longer in my life... but I know she's still in my heart and watching over me from the Beyond."

She finished her food and brushed some hair from her face. "It was a nice meal. You're a good cook. We don't have to go to his place immediately. In fact, I don't mind lingering and getting to know you more. If there's anything I can do, please tell me. You've been extremely kind to me, even though I'm a demoness."

Noah smiled, just a tad even if, as she tried comforting him. His depression kicked off a little as he smiled softly. "Yeah... thanks. I'll try and think like that more often."

His mainstream self returned slowly as she complimented him. Noah simply blushed and nodded his head. "Mm. Yeah, I've been cooking for this place since... since as long as I can remember, really," he said with a small chuckle. He listened to her offer and smiled kindly. "Well, I don't have that.. feeling of difference. Most people think you guys are too different. Me? I see you and I one and the same." He shrugged. "I guess most people don't work like that. Now, what would you like to know about me?"
