No one really spoke of or considered the Empire of Mulkuth as a difficult place to live. It was regaled with reports of fine trade and wealth, a benevolent King, and a good life for many. Perhaps that was the truth for the majority of its hundreds of thousands of citizens. But, wherever there was money, there was corruption. Those with power were prone to greed, and when the best of men had climbed the highest tower to their own prosperity, they left behind the world beneath it.
Not everyone was rich and of noble birth or upbringing. The slums and ghetto’s still existed, as did poverty and strife. Those places were always overshadowed by the things built over them. They would always exist, no matter the place or the kingdom. Beneath the shadow of the Grand Chokmah capital, that was especially true. Due to the diligence of King Peony Upala Malkuth IX, no one actually died in the streets, and crime was never a seemingly huge problem. But that didn’t mean it wasn’t completely nonexistent. There was a black and underground market, certainly. There were other such establishments with less than ideal or publically acknowledged purposes and intent.
The White Lily was one such business, nestled amongst all the other businesses and wealth within one of the Grand Chokmah’s many prefectures, far from the castle. The place was a grand mansion of fine dining and entertainment. The women were beautiful and talented with dance and song, arts and instruments, and several other crafts. They entertained and accompanied many of the capital’s, if not the world of Aldrant’s, most affluent men. It was, in essence, a glorified brothel.
Not everyone was always there for a sexual encounter. Some simply needed a haven, a place to get away, be someone new, or just be themselves. No one had a past or burden when they were there. They were treated as well as the King himself, and no complications came as a result of their confidential visits there. No one judged anyone, and some thought it was like another home, or another world, from the one they sought a temporary escape from.
‘Astrid’ was just one of the many popular women who was a part of the circle of Lilies. Her curls of voluminous ebony hair, pale skin, and emerald eyes were just a few remarks amongst her finest features. She saw many returning customers; always remembered, loved, and welcomed them. And who could ever forget Colonel Jade Curtiss?
