Mizuki's feet silently impacted with wooden floor as she made her way through the Squad 10 barracks, currently leaving the Captain's office. She had received orders to bring in the Quincy that was to be a guest among the Soul Society and it would be her duty to watch over him. It sounded a lot like baby sitting, but instead of saying that, she had accepted the job from her captain, and now she had to walk aaaaall the way to the opening gates of the real world. Honestly, she felt as though this was a waste of her time and talent, but she was the newest member of the Squad and, as such, was to be stuck with the most tedious and annoying jobs until proven she could do otherwise.

The sun was bright outside and Mizuki shielded her eyes from the blinding light while she continued on her way. Black hair highlighted with blue fell down to her shoulders, part of the back pulled into a neat fold held together by a flowered clip; her eyes were lined thickly in black, blue eye shadow surrounding it as well. Head held high and shoulders straight, she had the presence of a Shinigami and a glowering gaze that turned even the toughest of Soul Reapers away. But when she smiled, it could light up a room.

Not wanting to waste all day with this, she flash stepped her way to the gate; she absently wondered who this Quincy was and why the Soul Society would need his help. Assuming her questions would be answered in due time, she picked up speed.

Why was he doing this? Uryuu had asked himself that question a thousand times in the past 24 hours...but he had yet to come up with an answer. Completely out of the blue he had received a message from Soul Society...requesting his help. They were asking for HIS help....oh the irony of it all. Still, that alone had been enough to get his curiosity....whatever Soul Society could possibly need the help of a quincy for it was worth going just to find out. Besides, if he didn't like what he heard when he got there he could easily turn around and leave, they had no authority over him, nothing to really offer him. He was there purely out of his own sense of curiosity.

Uryuu was thankful that this gate was somewhat more stable than the last one he had used....he still had nightmares about running through there and emerging in the sky like that... "Ugh...I'll never come back here with Kurosaki again....." He grumbled as he moved through the gate carefully, seeing a light at the far end of the tunnel....why did that sound so wrong? He wasn't dieing, there was no way he was going to be staying in Soul Society. This was just a visit.

When he emerged, Uryuu slowly looked around, knowing to expect a guide or welcome of some kind. When he spotted a lone Shinigami female, he adjusted his glasses and began to approach her slowly, cautiously. "I take it you're here to welcome me miss...?"

The gate was already opening by the time Mizuki made it; she adjusted herself accordingly and stood with authority and poise. Within moments a young man emerged; not good with ages of living people, she had no real judge of how old the man was, but he was definitely much younger than she would have pictured. The last living Quincy is this boy? A quick scan from head to two and she decided he was definitely a good looking man, for the living anyway.

As was custom, she bowed to him after he spoke. "Yes, my name is Kazama Mizuki; I'm to be your guardian during your stay here in the Soul Society. You'll be staying at in the guest room at Squad 10's barracks." She straightened and motioned for him to follow. "Apparently Yamamoto wants this kept as quiet as possible. Other Shinigami know you're here, but few know to what purpose." Including me, she thought with a twitch of a brow. Why was she stuck baby sitting again?

Well....the greeting was a little more formal than he had been expecting...Quincy and Shinigami had never gotten along all that well, so he had been expecting a frosty welcome at best. When she motioned for him to follow, he nodded slightly and did so, glancing around slowly. The place hadn't changed since his last time here, though this time he could study things a little more rather than having to run for his life. "Well, if they don't know why I'm here we have something in common, I've yet to be told the reason I'm here aswell..."

Uryuu followed her slowly, hands in his pockets as he walked rather casually. "I have to admit, I simply came because of how intriguing this whole concept is. The idea that Soul Society and the Shinigami need the help of a Quincy....I find it rather ironic really" Uryuu was clearly enjoying this a little more than he was letting on.

Mizuki glanced to him, a single brow raised. "I suppose that's one way of looking at it. I wasn't informed on the reasons for your arrival, either, but I am supposed to join you later at a meeting with Yamamoto. Perhaps he will enlighten us both then." It was a rather long way from Squad 10's barracks to the gate and Mizuki absently wondered if it would be entirely rude if she flash stepped the rest of the way there... Grinning to herself, she crossed her arms as they continued on their way, occasionally passing other Shinigami who she gave friendly greetings to.

"I take it you've been to the Soul Society before?" She asked after several moments of silence between them. While most Shinigami would be more than annoyed with their baby sitting job, Mizuki was determined to find a good side to it and maybe talking to him would prove to be fruitful. The chances of a Soul Reaper and Quincy getting along were slim, but Mizuki prided herself on being able to get along with virtually anyone.

"Yamamoto...? That old man is still in charge huh..." Uryuu pulled his hands from his pockets and ended up folding his arms as he continued to follow her, nodding slightly in response to her question. "Yes I've been here before, I thought that was rather common knowledge. My last visit wasn't exactly discreet....as I recall there was quite a lot of damage to the Seireitei....though I see it's now been repaired"

Whilst Mizuki might have been giving and receiving friendly greetings to the other Shinigami, Uryuu could feel their cold stares directed at him. He knew he wouldn't have been welcomed by most here, he had been prepared for that. Still, their cold looks were just all the more satisfying. They needed him, that was why he was here, and there was nothing they could do to change that.

Tapping her chin, Mizuki squinted her eyes and thought a moment. A Quincy in the Soul Society before... oh. Right. "The Bouuuunts, right," she said with a half laugh. "Ah, that was a fun time. All of us going to school had to clean up the aftermath." It didn't sound like she was being sarcastic; instead, she genuinely meant what she had said. While most of the other students had complained about the extra work, she had found it a good excuse to re-visit the district of her home and was able to rebuild many houses in that area. It had felt good to be able to help those people; their smiling faces and teared eyes were worth the effort.

They were still a great distance from the barracks when Mizuki caught scent of freshly steamed rice and teriyaki. Her stomach gave a quiet growl and she stopped abruptly, pointing to one of the buildings. "You wanna get some food? We still have awhile yet until we have to see Yamamoto."

"Well actually...." Uryuu had been more referring to the first time he had been to Soul Society during their successful attempt to save Rukia from execution. Had his presence gone unnoticed in Soul Society as a whole during that?! Sure Ichigo had been the main threat but....Uryuu had fought a Captain and won! Surely he should be somewhat well known for that.....right? Or was his presence dismissed as simply another human? ".....Never mind..." Uryuu decided it might've been best to drop the subject....he wasn't sure if his ego could take the blow that his presence wasn't known during that incident.

Mizuki wasn't the only one to catch the smell of food as they neared it, and his ears didn't miss the growl from her stomach, which brought a soft chuckle from Uryuu's lips. Food did sound pretty good actually, he hadn't eaten much so far today, and it made sense to have a good meal before seeing the head captain. "Alright, a meal sounds good, though I don't have any currency that Soul Society might use"

"Don't worry about that," she said as she lead the way, "just grab whatever looks good, okay?" Sliding open the door, she let him walk in first before shutting it. The place was not crowded yet, since it was not quite midday, though a few Soul Reapers were hanging around, lazily picking at their food. Quickly moving Uryuu to the trays, she gathered one in her hand and motioned for him to take one as well. After each of them grabbed food to their interest, Mizuki made her way to the back corner of the eating area, sitting near a window.

Sitting in such close corridors, she noticed the downward gazes the Shinigami were giving Uryuu and she had to keep herself from glaring at them. Could they be anymore rude? She never understood the Soul Society's problem with Quincies; it appalled her to know their own people could slaughter others for such silly reasons. Not to mention their very own captain of one of the squads had preformed horrible experiments upon them. Had she been a Shinigami at the time, she most certainly would not have stood for such evil.

"So what's it like in the living world?" Mizuki asked as she poked at some rice.

She was even going to buy his food? This Shinigami was certainly full of surprises, his expectation would've been for her to say he was out of luck, then make him watch as she ate a large meal. He just followed her into the restaurant, taking a modest and cheap meal for himself before following her to sit down. He always ate cheaply anyway, so it wasn't like he was going out of his way for her.

Uryuu noticed the looks he was getting from the others, but he didn't particularly care. They were only looking at him like that because they'd been told to leave him alone. They knew if they harmed him then they'd answer to the head captain. The thought almost brought a smirk to Uryuu's lips, but he managed to suppress it in the interest of not starting trouble.

"Hm?" He glanced up at her question, raising an eyebrow. "Well...that's a rather difficult question to answer really, I've only ever lived in the living world so I don't have a frame of reference to compare it to. But....I suppose it's not so different from living here really. There are lots of people doing lots of different things....though I would say that on the outside at least the living world is a little more....diverse, a little less structured and more unpredictable. To be honest, I prefer it that way. Soul Society seems a little too....rigid for my tastes. Might I ask you the same question? What's it like to live in Soul Society?"

Different, hm? She wondered how different things were there, but, having never been there, she had no clue. Occasionally Matsumoto would bring things back from their world and everything seemed to be much more diverse, as Uryuu had said, as well as beautiful and artistic. Always having an eye for pretty things, she had eyed her Lieutenant's new wardrobe from afar, thinking the clothes were much less conservative than their uniforms and the kimonos people wore around the Soul Society.

"Can't imagine living any other way, really. It's quiet here, but everyone's so rigid, you know?" She picked at some potstickers on her plate, making a face. "A lot of people are stuck up and stick to the 'rules.' I think life needs more of a thrill every once in awhile. I guess it was kind of perfect for me to be put in the Squad I'm in." She laughed lightly, a twinkle in her eyes. "My Captain and Lieutenant are often getting into odd skirmishes."

"Rigid is an understatement...." Uryuu frowned as he thought back to his first trip here to save Rukia. Rules....it was thanks to rules that things got so far out of hand, that even her own brother fought nearly to the death to ensure the girl was executed. He had hoped after that things would become a little more relaxed, that the Shinigami in charge would begin to recognise that their inflexibility had driven three of their captains into becoming traitors, but it seemed things hadn't changed.

"This place does need to become more flexible....too much has happened because of the rules...." He sighed and shook his head. "So your Captain is a little more flexible? I suppose that explains why you were sent to look after me rather than someone from another division..." Uryuu finished off his food, setting down the bowl. "Hm...quite good...I wasn't expecting the food to be quite so good here really"

Mizuki nodded curtly. "Mm-hmm. I believe he's gone to your world several time. Captain Hitsugaya? I'm sure you've heard of him." Swallowing the last of her food, she gathered her tray and Uryuu's, smiling as he spoke and replying with, "Well, I'm glad this was a pleasant surprise for you then. Hopefully there will be more installed on this trip than you realize." Leaving him with a wink, she disposed of the remains of food and placed the trays in the stationed areas. Gesturing for Uryuu to follow, she lead the way out.

"You're right about why I was sent-- the other Squads are too proud to show around a Quincy. Us Squad 10'ers like different; I guess you could say we're the oddballs." She shrugged, crossing her arms. "I hope it doesn't bother you-- the other Shinigami, I mean. They can be a little cruel, but don't take anything they say or do to heart."

"Hitsugaya....the child yes?" Of course Hitsugaya was far older than Uryuu, but the appearance just made it far easier to describe the Captain in such a way. "From what I know he's one of the more....moderate Captains, a little more open to flexibility and change" He nodded slightly, then raised an eyebrow when Mizuki....winked at him? What had brought that on? Such an action was one of the last things he would've been expecting from a Shinigami.

"No, the others don't bother me, I got used to it last time I was here. It's not like I was expecting things to be any different after all. I came here fully expecting treatment much worse than this. Honestly I was expecting to have to defend myself in a fight by now...I suppose it's a pleasant surprise that hasn't happened already"

Mizuki frowned at Uryuu's words, troubled he felt such a distaste for the Shinigami. Though, she supposed, he would not think ill of them without just cause. They had helped wipe out the Quincies and she knew of their current Captain of the research department had done his fair share of experiments on their kind. It sickened her to think about and seeing said Captain always gave her chills; she avoided the man as best she could.

"Don't worry, no one will bother you with me here," she said with a beaming smile, touching his shoulder with gentle fingers. "Really. If anyone starts anything, I'll kick their ass to the other side of the Seireitei."

"Oh? Is that so....well if anyone does start anything, I can assure you that you'll have to beat me to kicking their ass...I don't intend to let them walk all over me and then have someone else fight my battles..." Uryuu smirked slightly, clearly joking around with her, trying to assure her that he really did know what to expect by coming here. He had never expected to be welcomed with open arms, he had always been anticipating a cold reception from the majority of the Shinigami here.

"So, when can I find out just why I'm here exactly? I'm somewhat eager to find out just what required the attention of a Quincy rather than anyone else"
