It'd been days since Vera had last seen civilization. To some, it'd have been a most daunting clusterfuck experience, to be alone in the absolute wild of the forest, nothing but woodland critters to keep her company. Yet, the red head longed for nothing more but to remain in the wilderness by herself until she fulfilled her personal quest. Wolves had become so rare that they were turning into a fable. Some specialists, in fact, stated that there were none left in the wild, all either captured and sent to the zoos of the world or killed for performing the base actions that enabled any predator to survive. Yet, she was a stubborn as an old mule. She'd prove that wolves still existed. Even if it implied sleeping in the middle of nowhere by herself. Still, she had aaaaaaall of summer to dedicate to her quest. Then the funding would end. BUT, until then, Vera was in wonderland.

Well, would be in wonderland if her food wasn't running out. Sighing, she looked back to her tent, making a mental inventory of what she had left. All the canned stuff was gone. Maybe some beef jerky, but that didn't feed anyone. There were two choices: one, go back to the city to buy supplies; two, stay in the forest and hunt her own food. In a way, she enjoyed the irony. Having to become like the predator mankind had so gleefully destroyed.

The young investigator lost herself in thought as she turned to the dying embers right by pale bare feet. Her usual clothes were anything but feminine, her wardrobe consisting mainly in practical items, like jeans and t-shirts, and this night it was no different. Still, since it was a hot summer evening and she was by herself, Vera'd settled into a large basic t-shirt, long enough to serve as a shapeless minidress, a glimpse of light blue cotton panties visible between her slender legs, her pale skin almost glowing with the combination of the dying fire and the full moon's light. Serenely, her chocolate hued eyes began to close, the day's exhaustion catching up with her finally. Covering forest ground continuously for days wasn't easy, checking up on trails and waterways, looking for paw prints and droppings, any sign that'd reveal the location of the ellusive wolf. Vera knew there was one in the surrounding area, she'd spotted a couple of signs here and there, as if almost everything had been carefully concealed not to leave a trace.

The moment she started nodding off and almost fell on her side was the sign to call it a day. Standing up, one could quickly conclude why she wore such baggy clothing, a pair of ample DD cup breasts gingerly jiggling with the girl's movement as she put out the remains of the fire. Tomorrow would be another exhausting day, so all sleep she could have would be more than welcome. Plus, she had to decide what to do about her food. But that could come after waking up. Yawning as she scratched the wild bundle of short curls, the 5' 3" form disappeared inside the tent, stretching herself for yet another night out on the wild.

8 months. 8 horrible, terrible, bloody months since the last time Nathan saw a wolf alive. And even that ended in more bloodshed. The gray wolf grew tired. Tired of running, tired of fighting. All he wanted to do was be safe for once. He ran for days and days, hoping to find anything that was even remotely safe. Eventually, he found a clearing, and that's when she came around.

It was another one, a human. Nathan quickly went into alert. He hunted while she looked for him. He slept only when she slept. He left his waste around so he could plan his next move. He was amused however at her persistence. "Maybe she can be of use." He thought as he spent one night closer than normal at her campsite. He sat down and looked from afar, seeing the curves, taking in her scent. He contained his instinct, waiting for the perfect moment to arise.

Inside, Vera laid down on top of her sleeping bag, closing her eyes and ready for a good night of sleep. The heat of the day was still accumulated inside the tent though, the air heavy with condensed warmth, absolutely unbearable for the red head. So, it didn't take long for her to give up trying to sleep inside and pull her sleeping bag out. Who cared she was out in the wild, no other person had dared to accompany her on this trip because it was too far out so no one else would be wandering around and spot her sleeping half naked in the middle of the damn forest! That would have been just absolutely preposterous.

So, she dragged the bag close to where the fireplace was and laid herself on her back, looking at the gorgeous full moon shining in the sky, her arms crossed behind her head as a pillow. Who cared about civilization. This was the life. And if she got cold, she could always go back inside. No harm done. Her dark eyes slowly fluttered shut, hypnotized by the pale moonlight, and soon Vera slept soundly, a light snore announcing her vulnerability.

Nathan slowly crawled forward, his movements well blended into the grass as the wind blew. "Almost." He muttered, watching as she crawled out of the tent. As she fell asleep, he was at the edge of the camp. He looked at all of the equipment. He had hesitated. The equipment was different than other humans. It looked like analysis equipment. But what would this human want to analyze? He retreated, finding a nice foxhole to rest and think.

When morning came, Vera woke up to the sun's first rays, sitting up as she rubbed her eyes. Waking to the sound of chirping birds was something she'd never get tired of. It reminded her softly of where she was and how beautiful it all was, and of the work underway to protect it. First things first though. Breakfast. Groggily, she wandered to the tent, a small breeze chilling her spine. Breakfast and get dressed. Gotcha.

A pair of denim shorts, sneakers and a couple of crackers later, the scientist came back out, inspiring the fresh nature air. What was in store for her today? Checking on the four cameras she'd spread, look for possible dens, search for signs by the waterways... Oh, and figure out how to feed herself. So. Tree climbing, walking, more walking and either running back to the city or hunting/fishing. Mmmh. More and more, Vera leant toward the survivalist option. She enjoyed challenges. It'd be just one more to add to this whole underbudgeted journey of hers. Binoculars in tow, the young woman set off to start her daily trek. First target: the river.

Nathan woke hearing the sound of grass. He snapped up looking for her, he didn't see her until she was walking towards the river. Seizing the opportunity he had, he walked through her camp. The items here weren't that of a hunter, but of a observer. Bit he noticed food was in low supply. He needed her alive and healthy, not starving and dying. He walked out of the camp, looking for something to hunt.

He found a deer, a rather large one. He tracked it down and guided it close to the campsite. Nathan killed it, taking some of the meat for himself. He then dragged the rest back to the site.

Vera was out and about the whole morning, going through the routine she had so meticulously set a week ago. Only at about noon did she return to the campsite, covered in dirt, sweat, and a couple of leaves and twigs tangled in her short mop of firey hair. The few tracks she had found were small and spread far between, either going through the river itself or just plain ending abruptly, as if they'd been erased. Any other marks had been just as random and scattered, laughable evidence that some form of intelligence was at play here. The lack of nutrition seemed to be getting the best of her, feeding the conspiracy theories in her head. It'd spurred her back just as she had recovered the last dvd, coupled with a growling stomach. First, to drop off the precious cargo. Then... to hone her hunting skills.

It was with surprise that the young woman met the scenery, rubbing her eyes some to make sure it was real. A deer. A dead deer, just lying there, waiting for her. A shiver went down her spine. Was someone really playing her? Her brown eyes widened as she inspected the carcass further though, the knowledgeable gaze spotting signs that she had most definitely never expected to see right at her own doorstep. The bite marks, there was no mistaking it. They were a wolf's. There was one stalking nearby, and it was confident enough to go near the contraptions of humans. And it was a fresh kill too... Vera bit her lower lip. It was a godsend in more than one way...

Half an hour later, a blood soaked hunting knife laid on the ground by the sizzling fire, the coals of a cooking fire were beginning to die down, and Vera laid on her back, satisfied after a good piece of venison had gone down into her stomach. Some meat was missing on the carcass, carefully cut and stored by the girl, but most of it was still available for its original hunter, as a gesture of respect and of hope that the wolf would come back. After the meal, Vera went inside her tent, dvds in tow, to sit down and watch the footage for a couple of hours.

By this point Nathan noticed a pattern. He took the opportunity to take some of his meat. He was silent, wanting to eat in peace. The meat was good to him. Though there wasn't much to compare to since it had been months since he had any real meat. Once he was done, he walked to the side of the tent and rested, wanting to stay warm. With great effort, he eventually fell asleep.

The scientist was so imersed in her research that the world could end and she still wouldn't notice. It took a keen eye to spot it, but here and there there had been sounds and shapes that she could most definitely say were a wolf's. There weren't many shots, and none of them were clear enough to use as evidence, since people could always dismiss it as a fox or a cougar, but it was a start. At least it gave her clues to properly set the cameras now. Time went by, more hours than what Vera'd have wanted, but she was so entangled by the footage that only when the light started dimming did Vera notice it was getting late. "Damn..." she muttered to herself, cursing her luck. She'd have to change the cameras tomorrow.

The woman came outside the tent, breathing in the cooling air of nightfall. Part of it was simply to have a moment of relaxation and stretching herself after being cramped up in there for so long. The other side was to take a gander at the carcass once more. And what she noticed made her smile. More wolf marks. It'd come back for the kill and to feed again. Maybe she'd have enough luck and...

Her thoughts stopped dead the moment her eyes set on her tent, after turning to go back in. Right there, sleeping peacefully. The wolf. Vera had to bite her lip not to squeal. It was right there, within her reach... but how would she approach it? The last thing she wanted was to be attacked by a surprised wolf... So she sat there. Waiting. Watching the large canine until he woke up.

Nathan sighed happily, glad he got a decent amount of rest for once. His ears perked up, his tail wagging happily as he slowly began to wake. Standing up, he stretched his front and hind legs while he yawned. A tremor flowed through his body, shaking a little as he finally was awake.

Turning around, he saw the human. He let out a growl, getting into an attack stance. He growled, baring his fangs, tail becoming stiff. Nathan was angry with himself. Why did he leave himself exposed, able to be seen so easily. If he could, he would have spoke to her, but fear of capture kept him silent, into the attack mode.

Vera was almost asleep herself when the wolf finally gave signals of stirring, immediatly a rush of energy and excitement filling her tired body. Would it run away? Would it be curious about her? Would he attack? So many questions, she could barely supress herself from rushing it and snuggle the wolf as if it was a mere dog. So silly of her to ponder such a thing.

The growl made it clear it wasn't happy. He, actually, a quick glance told her. In the back of her mind, a part of her was slightly disappointed. The scientist had fed the vague hope of actually finding a female with puppies on her expedition, but hey, it was a silly hope in the first place, to be that lucky. Still, first things first. She had to appease him. Make it evident she didn't want to hurt him. Body language. "Hey boy, it's okay... I don't want to hurt you..." Vera whispered softly. Slowly, she laid down on her side, exposing her stomach to him, as well as her palms. To expose one's underside meant they were submissive. That they wouldn't hurt the other one. Hopefully, Vera thought, she could pass on the message.

Nathan heard the female speak. It seemed not to attack, but just trying to calm him. He watched as the human laid down on her side, surprised that she was a submissive. His tremors and growls temporarily ceased, moving closer to her. He smelled her body, it's fragrance intoxicating him. He continued, traveling over her body. Slowly, he traveled downwards, eventually reaching her womanhood. The scent drove him mad, brushimg against the edge. He determined she was safe to be around, placing a paw on her side.

Vera had to force herself to stay very still not to reach out and run her hand over his fur as he explored her scents. Something seemed to excite the wolf, especially as he grew close to her groin, making an intense blush appear on her face. Was he interested in her? At least he was calmer. Slowly, the woman rolled back to her stomach, standing in all fours, watching him closely. Would he stick around? Run off somewhere? Something in between. A hand slowly reached out to his side. She just wanted to pet him once. Just once.

Nathan pawed over her body a bit more, he smelled until she turned over on all fours. He presses a paw on her back, sniffing her body more. She put a hand on his side. He almost reacted to it, but it felt...good somehow. He sat down on his hind legs, letting the hand run over his body. He soon lay back down, wanting her to do what she was doing over his back.

She felt the wolf tense under her touch for a moment, but Vera's doubts dissipated when he relaxed, giving him one good, long stroke, feeling his weather beaten fur under her gentle fingers, and the strong, lean body of an animal shaped to survive. The scientist couldn't help but admiring it, a biological machine so finely engineered... one that blind ego and stupidity had hunted almost to the point of extinction. As he laid down, Vera's hands continued to run through his pelt, over his side, encompassing larger areas bit by bit. His neck, then his maw, slowly going from his side to his belly, the softer, more sensitive underside.

(Sorry for such a long delay.)

Nathan continued to let his body be scratched. Whatever the human had been doing was working, his tail swayed from the action. As she scratched all over, neck, maw, sides, he let out a light growl. As she reached to his underside, he rolled onto his back, begging her to continue with a whimper. A paw reached out, placing it on her body as if to call out to her.
