Adrian was something of an outcast at school, he didn't hang out in any of the social circles, not even the odd social circle of the other outcasts. He seemed to mainly keep to himself ever since his parents had left. Oh they hadn't just up and abandoned him by any means, but they both did work away a lot, and since there was no other family to take care of him Adrian had been left at home to take care of himself. Not that it was difficult. His parents earned a more than respectable amount and kept Adrian supplied with as much money as he needed, and since it was just him the house never really got too messy. But it had more or less killed Adrian's social development. He had no friends, no reason to go out of the house besides going to school or going shopping, and it left him relatively unable to talk to people, not a great thing for a 16 year old boy going through High School.
For the most part this arrangement was fine with Adrian. He didn't particularly want or need friends. Though it did leave him in a bit of an awkward position relationship wise. He often caught himself staring at the girls at school, but he just had no idea how to talk to women, and the girls at school seemed to have little interest in starting a conversation with him, mainly because of how odd he typically behaved, leaving Adrian to feel somewhat lonely, especially in the big empty house of his parents.
Now it was Saturday, a day like most others except without school, meaning Adrian was more than likely to just spend the day alone, wandering around the house, maybe doing a few chores and maybe reading a book or two. But then, something mildly unusual happened. The doorball rang. That hadn't happened in a while, even salespeople tended to avoid the house now after the strange and silent greeting they usually received from Adrian.
Upon answering, Adrian was greeted by what looked like a deliveryman holding out a clipboard. "Sign here kid, package for you, big one" Adrian blinked, looking at the man. He hadn't expected anything to be delivered, unless it was from his parents? Maybe they had sent him a surprise? "Hey, kid, will you sign already? I don't got all day here" The man snapped as he got a little impatient, before Adrian slowly took the offered pen and signed the form. "Finally....geez...kids today..." The deliveryman rolled his eyes and turned to leave, leaving Adrian to look at a rather large crate infront of his door. "Huh....."
The boy blinked, then walked outside, going around to the back of the crate to push it inside. It was somewhat heavy, though he was able to move it by himself.
It didn't take long to get into the front room, Adrian going to grab a crowbar from the garage to prise open the top of the crate, which had been securely nailed shut. "Hnnggh!" Adrian had to use a lot of force to get the crate open, then as the top finally came off he yelped and lost his balance, falling over as the top of the crate flew in one direction and he the other. "Nnngh....ow...." Slowly the boy stood up, rubbing his backside where he had landed, then slowly approaching the crate, leaning over to take a look at just what was inside.....
