Chapter 1: Life in Vault 38
From the moment I was born into the world, my destiny was already predetermined. My vault, my 'home' was long since taken over by slavers. The world is a cruel place to live in nowadays, but before I get to what has taken my life on its journey, I must begin with where it all began. My mother was a slave to slavers, and worked in a specific field I am not proud to mention. And even though my father was just one my mother's jet suppliers, the only thing I am grateful to him is that he kept her off of jet during the whole time I was within the womb.

When I was born, I was, like all babies, placed inside an incubator to keep me dormant until I grew to an age of five. When we were all at an acceptable age, we were put in what that slaver of an overseer calls his own version of a 'school'. We were taught to obey, or faced whippings and beatings...or worse. We were also taught basic school education, for the sake that we did not grow into inadequate workers.

Our parents didn't care. They were too hogged up on the jet and psycho that the merchants brought to the vault doors every week. The slavers would buy them then bribe our parents with the drugs so that they would not interfere..I swear, there was never a more drugged up place than Vault 38. The merchants didn't care about it however..they were paid handsomely in whatever some of the slavers brought back to the vault after some hunting for various kinds of food. The radiation in the vault wasn't as bad as one would think, as the merchants also brought back Radaway with each trip. It was great for a while...for the overseer's rule anyway.

At the age of ten, as traditional for all vaults, the overseer issued us all a Pip-Boy3000. At least he was that considerate to follow vault code and issue us our very own Pip-Boy. Unlike most parties that are supposed to be happy and fun and full of gifts for the lucky child, mine wasn't anything to be referred to as my 'special day'. The slavers kept me and my two best friends, Jessi and Odon, in a broom closet with a small light to have my little 'party'. Though Odon was the overseer's son, he still did not get any special treatment. We were all stuck in the small broom closet with the only gifts they could get me were a comic book with ripped pages as well as missing ones from Jessi and an empty handgun from Odon. Odon had gotten it from his father as a present, though he was never allowed to have bullets in the actual gun.

The years that followed weren't pleasant ones. Mother died after two years since my tenth birthday and father has become a drunk rather than the harsh toned, cold hearted man that used to use me as a stool for his legs when he'd sit down and rest to enjoy a nice scotch. I don't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing. I felt like I was, in a way, happy that my mother had died because the ailments of my life were lessened...only to be impacted with the loss of a maternal figure to care for me. My next few years of my life would be what shaped me into who I was when the time came that I left the vault.

At the age of sixteen, I was now the premature mold of a man that I am now. My life would supposedly change when I take the G.O.A.T...but we all knew that we would forever be stuck as slaves, no matter what job we were stuck under. The G.O.A.T was boring and the turnout for me wasn't exactly as I had planned. The future job I had was so unlike me that I doubted I could ever have become it: a Slaver.

Chapter 2: Escape To A New Life
A few months after the the G.O.A.T test, something happened that gave me, Jessi, and Odon the chance we needed to get to the vault door via the elevator in the Security Sector. The vault door was one of the few restricted places that regular citizens could not even go near, more or less speak of. Talk of traveling outside the vault was forbidden between the slaves, and only the slavers were allowed to leave the vault, for expeditions or just to leave and start anew.

Anyway, back to the part about the event that allowed the three of us to finally leave our hellhole. Whilst opening the vault doors to leave for trading valuables, some of the slavers did not expect what would occur next. Liberation of the vault by none other than the fabled Brotherhood of Steel. They came to eliminate the largest drug ring this side of the Savannah Wasteland. As for why Vault 38 is so far from where it should be around the rest of the 30s, I will get to that later on.

The three of us took shelter within the very broom closet that my tenth birthday was held in. I shielded my two friends as I stood in the front, so that when the door would open I could take any sort of damage that could come from the invaders. We heard the gunshots of energy weapons sizzling through the air as everyone was slaughtered. We knew that this was a good thing, we were all we had. The three of us stook together until the end and even as we faced certain doom at this time we would die together as friends for life.

Then, the door opens. I hold my friends tightly and tense my back, hoping the small amount of hardening would keep the lasers from piercing through me completely...but as it was, this vault was inexperienced with energy weapons and we did not know that we had the possibility of just being reduced to ash with the killing shot. We clenched our eyes shut, hoping that if we didn't see the shots coming we wouldn't feel them...but after moments of silence I was the first to turn my head and see the Brotherhood soldier, clad in signature power armor, with his hand out to take us. I stared at it, amazed at what I was seeing before I took the soldier's hand and led my friends outside.

Outside, we met the person in charge. It was a soldier going only by the codename Luna. She was the only soldier without the power armor's signature helmet. The woman seemed in her mid thirties, her hair still healthy as ever with its dark, red color that resembled blood of battles of her past. Speaking to her, we soon find out that we three were the last survivors of the massacre of Vault 38. We were spared, only because we were the only three who were not addicted to drugs and could be influenced to prevent any future drug use, whatsoever.

Luna was kind enough to take us in as initiates. Over the next two years we learned the ways of the Brotherhood of Steel. We learned that in recent years, the Brotherhood started to accept only those that recruiters could see useful. These recruiters were skilled with only the keenest of eyes, a sort of trait that only occurs once in every twenty people of the remaining Brotherhood of the Savannahl Wasteland.

I am age 18 now, and I have not seen Jessi nor Odon for the past two years since we were rescued. I wonder what always had happened to them, but I do not worry too much. Knowing them, they'd be just fine, even if we're undergoing training under different trainers of the Citadel and our shifts are at different times. I have grown into a strong light-skinned man, hair dark black and in the Warhawk wasteland style. I stand tall in my power armor, custom made just for me for my excellent abilities in the use of an energy weapon of any kind. My power armor was tinted black with a red skull on my back and I never wore my power armor helmet. My plasma pistol lay in its holster in my pocket whereas I forever wear a suit-issued power fist that was a built-in part of my armor, unlike other kinds of armor.

The day to meet my friends...was also the day we saw the return of an enemy...that was supposed to have been disposed of after the so called 'Lone Wanderer' had forever taken them out.

Chapter 3: Reunion
Outside of the Savannah Citadel, I stood in wait with Luna for the other two soldiers who were supposed to accompany us in our exploration. We were to go through the outskirts of the Savannah Wasteland into territory known as the Purge. It was an execution grounds sometime in the 2100s but it has been long since abandoned due to radiation...leaving the place filled with horrors of anything in the wasteland and then some.

A few moments after waiting with my mentor Luna, I heard a familiar voice coming from behind me. "Well now, its been quite some time, Raiden." Said a man in shining white power armor that looks like it was just recently made with some adjustments. There were wing decals on the back shoulder blades and Odom looked just like an adult should have. He was taller than I was, by about four inches. He stood at a tall 5'11" with a buzzed cut hairdo on his dark-skinned head which had an eyepatch covering his left eye. The man had a large pack on his back that was attached to the gatling laser gun which lay in its socket on the pack.

"Its good to see you again Odon. I see you've achieved the rank of Special Ops Paladin as well." Special Ops Paladins were a new rank given only to Knights that were able to take only special missions that involved infiltration and exploration of unknown areas. "Its good to see you Luna Ma'am." Odon said to Luna. Luna would be the acting Knight Seargant for this mission to explore the Purge. The wasteland needed to expand...by the year 2290 Project Purity up north purified enough water that the whole Atlantic Ocean was...mostly pure, aside from some radiated water coming in from the other water currents of the world.

"We just need to wait for Jessi." Odon said as he sat on the transport truck next to Luna. "Jessi's coming with us? How is she?" Odon chuckled as he shrugged. "You'll find out. She's a real trooper Raiden." I noted how quiet Luna was while we talked. It wasn't like her to stay so quiet this whole time. She usually loved to get into our conversations and we allowed her to come in. Something must be bothering her. Before I could say anything to her, however, my vision became blinded by two hands as my head was pulled back to meet the flat chest of a woman in Recon Armor. Unlike ours, however, it was regular recon armor.

When I could see again after the woman had let me go, I was shocked to see Jessi. The light-blue haired tanned girl that had been my friend since birth even before I had met Odon. "Its good to see you too Raiden." She said sarcastically as I was still staring at her, amazed at how well she had grown. Regaining posture, I hugged her when she hugged me and we were happy that the gang was finally reunited once more. Luna finally said something, and it was for us to get into the truck. She took the driver's side and the passenger's side was taken by another Paladin that was waiting for us. I didn't know who he was, but he was just as quiet about this as Luna was. The three of us got in the back of the truck as it began to drive off and we began to share tales of the past two years, the experiences the three of us had individually.

Chapter 4: Raider Problems
It was probably an hour after we left that we began to run into some trouble. Jessi, Odon, and I were still talking, catching up in the back of the truck. We were too occupied to notice what was chasing us...or beginning to chase us. It wasn't a threat necessarily, as they could not get into the truck even if they tried. We leaned over the rails and laughed and taunted the mole rats that were chasing after us. They might have been small creatures, but these were pretty fast...but then again the truck wasn't running all too fast either. It was a pre war truck that the Brotherhood found and by some miracle got it to run. It was only used by Luna and her expeditions. She was always a great mechanic.

Eventually they began to screech out once we entered some old ruins of a town. It was odd that they followed us so far but we didn't care. We just sat back and watched them. Odon dropped down a few bits of iguana for them to eat. He was always one who cared for others. The mole rats stopped following us but their job was long done already. The truck soon stopped all of a sudden. Looking ahead, we saw that the exit of the town was blocked off by a gate with some people around...lots of people around. We turned around and we saw even more people surrounding the truck.

I swear, we were probably outnumbered thirteen to five. It wasn't much, yeah, but we were in a truck capable of exploding with a few simple shots from the raiders' guns. That, and there was no place for us to hide. The stores were all barricaded in the doors and windows and we were cornered. That, and the mole rats decided to join in the surrounding. It seemed they were hunting animals for these raiders. Luna got out of the truck along with the other Paladin. Luna went to us and remained quiet as she watch the paladin confront what seemed to be the leader of these raiders.

"Lets not be hasty you three. Jerome is a great negotiator. We should be fine." Luna reassured us. Odon didn't seem too happy about all of this. His hands were twitchy with angst as he was ready to just grab his gatling laser gun and empty into these raiders. Jessi was just the same and I admittedly was gripping the handle of my plasma pistol. Luna sat back, calmly as Jerome was negotiating.

Eventually we remained calm. Our guard was down only for a split second until we heard gunshots. Looking over we saw Jerome's body fall to the ground. Luna cried out in anger and fury as she began to rush at them with her super sledge at ready. Odon, Jessi, and I took initative immediately and began to empty energy cells into the raiders, after abandoning the truck. we took cover behind some rubble on various parts of the battlefield as bullets and lasers flew through the air. Luna was in cover behind the truck while the three of us diverted attention. Luna was determined to help Jerome.

Eventually Jessi ran for the truck. She jumped into the back and picked up her usual weapon, rather than her sidearm of a regular hunting rifle with a taped on sniper rifle scope(The actual sniper rifle itself was broken beyond repair). Inside the truck she picked up a large rocket launcher and shot it at the walls of the building above the remaining raiders, who were reinforced with raiders that were inside the nearby buildings. The rubble came down hard on top of them and only the mole rats remained. We didn't mind them. They were too busy trying to get their masters out from under the rubble. We got back into the truck after helping Luna get Jerome's body in the back. Odon was an excellent doctor and would try his best to revive him.

Jessi reloaded the rocket launcher and aimed it at the gate. After blowing it to pieces to reveal a path for us, Luna sped on through. While rushing to get in, what we didn't see was that during all the comotion one of the more smaller mole rats was inside the truck. It didn't do anything except watch us the whole ride and we didn't mind it either. It was almost like it wanted to come with us. Maybe since it was small, the raiders treated it like the slavers treated the lesser residents of Vault 38. After deciding for a name for the creature, the three of us finally came up with the name Cain.
