The second morning in the strange city had been better than the first; the new nightly restraints were holding well, and Prince Erik was getting used to the burning sensation. He had slept until a few hours after sunrise, and woke later than usual, well-rested, and jittery.
While still loved, even suffering from his terrible illness, Erik no longer felt trusted. He could always feel eyes on him, and was forbidden to leave his room the entire first day. The men around him seemed to almost expect him
to transform at any time, and he had even seen some of them subtly place their hands on their weapons as he walked by.
Finally allowed to see his new surroundings, Erik wore a heavy, brown cloak with a white scarf and the hood up, to hide his face. Refusing an escort, he set out into the city early, promising to be back before the sun set. Though he was bitter at how the guards seemed relieved to no longer have to watch him, the city called to him, and he was soon happily lost within it's streets.
Several people made contact with Erik's gray eyes, but most were not curious about his concealed face, smiling at him and hurrying along to their own business. The prince simply walked along the roads, savoring his freedom, and watching the people as they passed.
