The second morning in the strange city had been better than the first; the new nightly restraints were holding well, and Prince Erik was getting used to the burning sensation. He had slept until a few hours after sunrise, and woke later than usual, well-rested, and jittery.

While still loved, even suffering from his terrible illness, Erik no longer felt trusted. He could always feel eyes on him, and was forbidden to leave his room the entire first day. The men around him seemed to almost expect him
to transform at any time, and he had even seen some of them subtly place their hands on their weapons as he walked by.

Finally allowed to see his new surroundings, Erik wore a heavy, brown cloak with a white scarf and the hood up, to hide his face. Refusing an escort, he set out into the city early, promising to be back before the sun set. Though he was bitter at how the guards seemed relieved to no longer have to watch him, the city called to him, and he was soon happily lost within it's streets.

Several people made contact with Erik's gray eyes, but most were not curious about his concealed face, smiling at him and hurrying along to their own business. The prince simply walked along the roads, savoring his freedom, and watching the people as they passed.

The year was 1492, the village was set deep into the hills of a small European country. The houses where close set and the streets where made of cobblestone.
News traveled quick in the small village. And the village was a buzz with talk about the new mysterious prince that was moving into the old castle up on the hill. The castle had laid empty for years .. certainly it had always been empty as long as Rachel could remember.

Rachel was a curious 14 year old, still very young and naive only just recently having taken notice of boys. She worked in one of the old shops part time to help her parents. She had been working in the shop when she heard the bell over the door ring.Walking out from the back room that's when she first saw him, He was standing by a stack of books leafing through them, with his back turned towards her. "Hello. Can I help you?" she inquired of the stranger. That's when he turned around and she saw his eyes.. they where unlike any eyes she had ever seen before.. dark and deep and so mysterious, He was wearing a cloak the hood of which was pulled up casting the rest of his face in shadow. A smile light up her face, "you must be new around here? I don't think I've ever seen you before." She had a feeling this was the new prince that everybody had been talking about, but she didn't want to come out and just ask him, she she waited for him to answer.

"I see you found our books. Was there something special you where looking for? Perhaps I could help?" She said as she stepped around the counter towards the table with the books and the stranger. She tried not to let her nervousness show, but she was very curious about this new person feeling drawn to him for some reason. She wished she could get a look at his face.

The bells ringing as he opened the door had startled him when he entered the shop. The device was meant to draw attention to the customer, and attention was exactly what Erik was trying to avoid. Looking up from a book he had been leafing through, his eyes met the younger girl's, as she started to approach. Wordlessly he put the book back, letting the bell ring out once more, as he left the store.

The roads seemed to be less pleasant now, paranoia lightly gripping the cursed man as he walked through the streets. More and more people seemed to be looking at him, and he could swear he heard whispers of things they couldn't possibly know. The village was beginning to make Erik claustrophobic, and he quickly took a path that would lead him away.

After a short walk, he came upon a park where he couldn't see any others. Finding a spring in the wooded area, the prince knelt on the bank, taking off the white scarf he had been using to cover his face, and drinking deeply from the flowing waters. In the serene setting he could feel his heart stop beating so quickly, and the primal voices urging him on had fallen still.
