Elliot (nicknamed Elle) had been surprised to receive an invite to the exclusive private high school, Laurel Academy, all expenses paid. Yet the thing was, she wasn't surprised because she was unintelligent or unworthy of invitation to such a school. Elliot was surprised because Laurel Academy was... well, an all-boys school.
Laurel had a sister school that was meant for all girls, Victoria Academy, but it was common knowledge that Laurel had the most funding... and therefore, was better.
Elliot knew her invitation had been accidental, for her name 'Elliot' was generally a male name, and anyone who had never met her in person always assumed she was a man as a result.
Her family named her this way purposefully, feeling that giving her a male name would give her a strong character and increase her chances at success at life because men, unfortunately, have a tendency of making more money and getting higher up in their careers than women do as a whole.
Times are quickly changing, and every day women get closer and closer to true equality... but Elliot knew that that probably wouldn't happen in her lifetime. Getting this invitation felt like fate, for she was a woman of great ambition intent on beating the odds- and it was not an opportunity she wished to waste because of something so trivial as being the incorrect gender.
So, she accepted the invitation, and gave herself a complete makeover. She was young, still developing every day at the ripe age of 16, but her curves hadn't grown in yet so hiding her gender should be a snap, right? She used a tight sports bra to squish down her humble breasts, cut her long red hair into a shorter style that was popular (a moppish tumble, the 'rolled-out-of-bed' look.) and was grateful that the private school had a uniform so she didn't need to really worry about buying too many new outfits to accommodate her disguise.
She had her books, her school supplies, and scurried to the main office to get her schedule from the administrative assistants- looking like she was in pure heaven, especially because no one gave her a second glance, her bright blue eyes brimming with ambition and determination.
This school was full of elitist jerks who thought they were too good to talk to anyone if it didn't benefit them- and that suited Elliot just fine, she didn't need to draw much attention to herself, she wanted to study- then rocket into success!
Laurel was just a stepping stone, a means to an end, and she'd milk it for all it was worth!
