Mayumi carefully pet the newest addition to the clinic for the night in an attempt to soothe it. "It's alright," she cooed at it softly. She love animals. It was part of the reason that she wanted to become a veterinarian when she became qualified. She'd wanted it since she was a small child and she'd continued working for it ever since. Now, she was a college intern at a clinic closer to her school than her home, but close all the same. It was yet another step closer to her dream!
"Mayumi, we're closing up in ten!" Scott called to her.
"Thanks, Scott - I'll grab my stuff and head on out!" she responded cheerfully. Scott was the manager and pretty much equated to being her boss. He was a nice guy and was pretty understanding about her schedule and life. True to her word, she gave the small dog one last pat before she straightened up, moving behind the counter to grab her purse and coat from beneath it. The coat, she put on. The purse, she dragged keys out of. "I'll see you next week!"
She headed out to the front and settled into her pickup truck. Some said it was too big for her, but she thought it was perfect. It was good for groceries, hauling, and all the rough and tumble tasks that she needed... And when it rained... Well, the cover she'd ordered should be coming soon enough.
She drove along carefully - she always did on this road, because it was curvy and dark, well away from the lights that cars of higher levels of traffic would have given her. Despite her care, though, she was too slow to slam on the brakes when something darted across the road and she felt a rather heavy thump as she hit whatever it was. Heart pounding, she immediately set the truck in part and ripped herself out of the seatbelt and onto the pavement to see what she'd hit.
