She laid in the middle of the huge bed gasping for breath. Blood running down her neck. Her lip was bloody and cracked, her body hurt, she might have a broken rib but wasn't sure.

"Ahhh," she grunted, He must have been 280 lbs fat and balding, he smelt like sweat and grease, his body felt greasy to the touch. Just his body touching hers repulsed her. She rolled him off of her slight 96 lb body, his eyes where open, staring at her, unblinking, his mouth open dripping blood. A long quill pen stuck through his neck going in one side and out the other, severing his jugular vain.

As she got to her feet wincing in pain holding her side. Her hands where covered in blood, his blood. Her cloths where ripped, as what was left hung off her small slender 15 year old body.

Just a few hours before he had paid a premium price at the slave auction for the slight little red headed virgin, and now he lay dead in his own bed. His blood on her hands. She didn't mean to do it, he was attacking her, hitting her, trying to rape her. Her hand reached out her fingers curling around the long quill pen and the next thing she knew he was dead ontop of her.

She found one of his huge shirts and pulled it around her.. using part of her ripped cloths to fashion a belt. Nobody knew, It would be morning before the other servants found his body.

Nobody saw her slipping out the castle and into the night. She was still barefooted .. the night was cold and chilly .. her long red hair blowing in the breeze as she ran into the surrounding woods. Her hands still stained red with his blood.

She didn't sleep at all that night as she made her way through the woods. Trying to put as much distance behind her as she could before the body was discovered.

Izak drummed his fingers along the wooden bar as he sat there waiting for his drink and thinking. He was getting the edgy feeling he got when he didn't have a goal or objective. Being a bounty hunter was the most exciting job a man could have. The most primal occupation one could want. Tracing you prey, trapping you prey, toying with it till you see the unmistakable look of hopelessness just before you kill them. Or what ever his employer had wanted him to do with the target. He had no qualms with killing. Non what so ever.

The bartender came over and slid a shot of the hard stuff. Which Izak promptly took and downed the small glass causing its liquids to flow down his thought follows by a welcoming burn. A chuckle the originated from the bartender erupted in a low deep echo. "Looks like you having trouble finding work Izzy." Izak frowned and pulled out of of his many knives pointed the blade towards the shot maker. "I told you to not to call me that."

"Chill chill" the bartender said as he raised his hands in a submissive stance. "I got yea something." He pulled a piece of paper from under the bar counter. "Here. A bounty." Eyebrow raised, Izak grabbed the paper read it and was out the door in the next instant. 500,000 for one 15 year old girl dead or alive. Oh I'm going to enjoy this.

That first night Kayla wandered alone and scared. Visions of the night kept flooding her head.. the man, him trying to attack her, the body... She wandered along through the thick forest having no idea where she was going or what she was going to do...

She wandered through the wilderness for days.. living on berries and water she found in streams. By the third day she was tired and hungry ... her feet had taken a beating during the past three days on the run through the forest.. Finally the forest broke and through the trees she saw a small settlement of about 5 tents. She could smell food cooking on the open fire. She hung back in the woods watching as an elderly lady appeared from one of the tents and walking over to a large pot on the fire and stirring it with a huge ladle.

Having lived on only berried and water for the past 3 days the smell of the food was making her mouth water, her stomach made a tiny noise as she held it afraid someone would hear, of course they wouldn't but she was scared and frightened. She watched as the elderly woman ducked back into the tent.

Looking around nervously the small girl edged her way over towards the fire.. still looking around, she lifted the lid off the pot...the steam rose up.. filling the air with the aroma of fresh stew.. hunks of meat and vegetables filled the pot. Looking back over her shoulder biting her lip.. still nobody.. she reached for the ladle. " HAY YOU! WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING" came the sound of a mans voice. The man having emerged from the same tent that the woman had gone into.

Kayla froze in place.. dropping the ladle back into the pot.. she took off running towards the forest. The man in his mid thirties had no trouble catching up with the small girl, and grabbed her from behind. Kayla still frightened and scared of everything then that had happened over the past few days let out a loud scream as the man grabbed her around the waist and hauled her back towards the tents.

The elderly woman having heard the commotion came out of the tent... as did a few others from some of the other tents. "Whats going on here?" the woman asked.
"Ah I found this little urchinent trying to steal our food." the man said giving Kayla a little shake as he said it.
"Oh stop that you" said the woman. "Well just look at her, she's nothing but a tiny thing. Why I bet she's scared and hungry arn't you my dear?" she said as she tilted Kayla's head up to look at her. It was obvious by the the cuts and bruises on Kayla's face that she had recently been in some kind of altercation. Kayla nodded at the woman nervously.
"James will you put her down right now." the woman told the man still holding Kayla. "I'm going to fix her a plate, there is plenty here for her to have some of she's that hungry."
"Oh Mom you really have to stop taking in every stray that you run across." said the man as he put Kayla down.
"Nonsense son. If I did that you wouldn't be here now would you" the woman chuckled as she put a plate in front of Kayla.

Back at the slave camp where Kayla was raised they didn't exactly teach the girls manors. Most of the time the girls where lucky if the slave traders would give them food on a plate never mind giving them spoons and forks. So Kayla started eating the food with her fingers, but nobody said anything as she quickly finished the plate of food.

After everyone had finished eating the woman looked at Kayla and what she was wearing. " You know i bet you i have some cloths in the tent that might fit you," she said as he led Kayla into the tent... Inside the tent the woman gave Kayla a simple dress and a pair of shoes. When Kayla slipped off the shirt she was wearing the woman made a gasping sound as she saw the bruises and fresh whip marks that covered Kayla's body. As Kayla dressed the woman slipped out .. a few people had gathered around as the woman spoke to her son. A worried look coming over his face as he lowered his head and shook it.

The woman came back in a short time later and fixed Kayla some firs to sleep on. " Here you must be tired why don't you rest a bit," she said to Kayla, then lowering her voice she said, " don't worry you will be safe here"

Izak took about a day to gather all the information he needed and to conjure up a contract that stated the necessary things and the deal with the money and other such things. He was told she was no longer in the city but had fled but no one had seen her so he didn't have much to go off of.

Her owners expressed how much they wanted her dead. And that if he couldn't bring her back alive then to kill her himself. Something he took please in. They also told him that she had no friends as she was not aloud i interact with any one else other than a few slaves and her master which he later found out was the brother of the lady who put out the hit on the girl. They gave him her description which in his opinion was fairly bland, and what she wore the night she killed this fierce lady's brother.

By the time he was done it was dark and he thought long and hard as to where she would flee too. Nothing came to mind except that she would be hysterical with fear and of what she had just done if it was in fact a accident. Being she had no one to run too and she couldn't stay in the city she would have to leave it but guards where posted at the gates at all times. "AHH. The forest." He said to himself. That was most likely the one place a person who couldn't leave by gate. That had him wondering if she had help to brave the forest at night as he strapped his crossbow to his back along with his whip and dagger. "Lets begin." was all he said as he entered the forest.

Kayla pretty much passed out right after the elderly woman left.. she slept through that night and well into mid morning the next day when the sound of voices outside the tent woke her up.

Peeking out through the little slit in the flap of the tent she saw three horsemen dressed in black armor taking to the woman and her brother.. other people gathered around the men on horses. The people of the small settlement all lowered there heads looking at one and other and shaking there heads. The men on horses looked around at the tiny tents .. then kicked there horses and rode off.

After the men in the horses rode off the people gathered around talking to one and other. Occasionally one would look over towards the tent that Kayla was in. The woman and her son moved closer to the tent.. Kayla could hear there muffled whispers.
"I don't care," the man said, then lowered his voice."She killed someone."
The elderly woman was shaking her head .. Kayla couldn't hear what she was saying but she looked to be upset. After a moment the man throw up his hands and stormed away.. grabbed his horse and rode away.

After a few moments the woman entered the tent.. with out saying a word she gathered a old leather bag and started stuffing a few pieces of clothing in it and a bit of food that would keep for a few days.. The woman turned to Kayla handing her the leather bag, " Here, honey I'm so sorry but you have to go. Those men where looking for you, they said you killed someone. Now i don't care what they said I'm sure you had your reasons. My son has left to go get those men, and they will be back for you soon." The woman said as she lifted the girls head and looked at the bruises still on her face.

The woman looked outside the tent to make sure nobody was watching.. then she hurried the young girl outside and walked with her towards the woods. " There, you see those hills?' The woman said, "If you can make it to the other side of those hills you will find a stream.. fallow that stream down stream and eventually you will come to a small stone cottage. The cottage will have flowers growing outside it. That's my sisters place. Give her this note she will help you." the woman said as she pressed the note into the palm of Kayla's hand. "Go, Go now while you still can"
Kayla nodded, "thank you" she said as she made her way back in the forest heading towards the hills that the lady had pointed to.

Izak followed a trail of crushed leaves and foot prints for about an hour. Finding little things help locate his pray. Like a torn piece of cloths caught on a branch and odd disturbances in the grounds natural patterns like a rustle of leaves and a bare spot indicating some one fell or slid or some such thing.

He knew he was on the right track when he came to a village after about half a days traveling. "So she did have help..." he thought out loud.

He came to a clearing and he observed the small village bustling about. Also a few men on horse back riding out of the town in what seemed a angry fuss. He approached a house near by and knocked. Izak had asked if they had seen a young girl come out of the forest at any time in the past day or so and they told him to go to the house by the forest and that if any one knew where she was it would be her.

He smiled, bowed, and thank you'd before proceeding to the indicated house.

When Izak got to the tiny tent the old woman emerged .. " what?? what was that you said" the old woman said " a young girl you say? No I ant seen no little girl around these parts you must be mistaken." ... "but if you want you can come inside I could fix you a nice drink of something" the elderly woman told Izak,"and my son should be back soon perhaps he knows something about the girl you seek." the woman said.

by this time Kayla already had already left about a half hour before, not knowing just how close she came to almost getting caught.. She was trying to keep the hills insight between the trees as she was heading in the direction.

Izak figured that this would happen so he cam prepared. "Thank you for the tea." he said as he sipped the little cup. "You see..." he started. "... the young girl is my half sister." he lied, "She was abused by my father and I always protected her but on this occasion I had to go out to town and she was at home by herself..." pausing to take another sip. Oh how he loved to weave fabric from lies... "father had come home early from his job and... and-" a tear fell from his eye...a talent learned and earned. "- her tried to...to...to take advantage of her being by herself." He used his sleeve to wipe away the one tear slightly dramatically. Making his voice emotionally horse he continued "By the time I got home he was dead with a pen though the side of his neck. I never cared for the ass my self but my little sister was no where to be found. She must have fled in panic. She wasn't prepared or anything." More fake tears. "P-P-Please if you can help me find my little sister please would you tell me or at least tell me who would know?" Izak was good at this and he could lie the letter off a word.

The old woman looked at Izak, he looked so genuinely sad. It almost reminded her of her own son when he was younger.
She nodded, " she was here.. but she left about an hour ago" she said.. "I don't know where she was going, she really didn't talk to much, I'm not sure if she was just scared or wasn't used to talking to people." the woman told Izak.
"I'm not sure, but when she left she was heading in the direction of the hills." The woman had a terrible feeling in the pit of her stomach that she was doing the wrong thing.. but then if this really was her brother... well she was such a young thing she really should be home. And with Izak sitting in front of her.. well he looked so sad and heart broken.

It wasn't until after Izak left that she really realized that she might have been tricked .. when she started thinking about the way the girl acted, what she was wearing ... acting like she didn't even know what a fork and spoon where.. and those marks on her body.. even if it had happened like the man said.. it still didn't explain the whip marks and the bruised ribs.

A few minutes latter her son rode up with the three men in black armor. The old woman was shocked with the men said no she didn't kill her father .. she was in fact an escaped slave that had killed her Master.. a very respected land Barron.

After the men left she told her son about the man pretending to be her brother.. " you have to go find her before those men do.. or that other man that said he was her brother" she told her son.. So her son sent off hoping he could find her before the others did...

She only had about another two miles and she would be at the hills... she was almost there.. with any luck she might be able to be at that woman's house by morning... Kayla kept moving.. unknown to her she now had men closing in on her.. and one of those men was Izak. Who would find her first? Would she be able to make it to the womans house before she was caught?

Izak was about an hour maybe an hour and a half walk away from the village and was out of site from it. He had been raveling in his own ego from when he told the stupid old bitch that sob story that was all bullshit and then some. He had been so caught up he hadn't heard the hoofs thundering behind him. When he did turn to see who it was he noticed the old hags son was followed...no chased by tree men in black armor. "I guess the old hag wasn't as stupid as she looked..."

Taking his time Izak pulled out his crossbow god down on one knee loaded the weapon and while the man was worried about those behind him he took his shoot. The arrow flew fast and hard hitting the farmer man in the chest with a hard thud and sending him flying off the horse he rode in. Repeated the action 2 more times one 2 of the 3 knights sending them to there hells or heavens.

He dropped the crossbow and drew this dagger and whip. and engaged the last remaining knight.

It took Kayla several hours to make it to the base of the hills. The sun was setting low in the sky and It was starting to get dark, she really didn't want to be going over the hills at night.. though not very high the slops where steep and slippery from the recent rains. But neither did she want to stop, she felt that once she got over the hills she would have put decent ground between her and the castle she escaped from a few nights ago. Although it would be a false sense of security it was still a barrier between her and the past she was running away from.
She trudged on, at least now she had some warmer cloths to protect her from the harsh cold night. and shoes on her feet making the climb a little easier. She climbed up the steep slop a few times sliding back down about 10 feet before she would catch herself and start climbing up again... A few times she thought she heard something behind her but when she would turn around nothing was there.. she thought it must be some animal or something.

He had been long gone after the little...bump in the road, he called it. A few hours went by but those hours caused it to become night. It was dark and he wasn't sure but he thought he could see something in the distance moving. Whether it was his prey, an animal, or just the shadows playing tricks on him he wasn't sure.

Stepping on dead leaves and twigs fallen from their home on the branches of the trees above, he followed a trail that was getting more and more clear and new as the time went.

"I must be getting close." Izak said to him self pumping his slightly exhausted body in to a jog of renewed excitement.

The only thing that kept her going was shear fright.. In her little mind she really thought that if she could just make it to the other side of the hill she would be safe, but in reality she would never be safe, not as long as she had that bounty on her head, which of course Kayla had no idea of.

It was night time, She was tired and sore but she still pressed on, Finally the hill started to level out and gradually she felt it sloping downward, she had made it to the other side and was now going down hill. Going down hill was much easier and faster then the climb up. but it was still dark, well past midnight when a sound behind her made her jump and scream out loud.. her heart jumped and she turned around... and there from under a bush hopped a jackrabbit. She decided to rest against a rock.. she sat down and pulled what was left of the food out of the leather bag .. when she finished eating she leaned back and before she knew it she fell asleep against the huge rock.
