Angela sighed softly to herself as she left the school, the security guard locking the gates behind her as she turned to walk down the twilight illuminated streets. As usual she had gone straight to the library when classes had ended, spending her entire afternoon studying alone. But as usual, the security guard had eventually come up to kick her out once all the teachers had left. She sighed as she looked up at the empty treet, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear as she started to walk again, heading home.....home....the place she hated going back to.
A few years ago her father had left Angela and her mother, for another man of all things, apparently he had just lost his interest in women overnight. Then again, perhaps that had something to do with the fact that Angela's mother had turned to drink shortly after Angela was born. Sadly, her father had refused to take her with him, leaving Angela to live alone with her alcoholic mother, who just happened to blame her daughter for all of her problems. Still, Angela was too quiet, too scared to say anything to anyone. As far as anybody was aware, Angela's mother was a sweet, innocent victim of a man who had left her to raise a child all alone. The reality was so so far from that....
Even school wasn't an escape for her. Angela also had the misfortune of falling into that social group that was universally unaccepted by anybody. Her looks were nothing special so the preppy kids shunned her, even the nerds shunned her....apparently Angela was too nerdy for them...but then in a small town like this it wasn't much of a surprise.
A single tear fell down Angela's cheek before she quickly brushed it away, taking a deep breath to contain everything. Just a few more years....a few more years and then she would graduate from high school....get a scholarship at a college as far away from here as possible and then she would never have to come back.
The girl nodded softly to herself at her plan, adjusting her glasses before turning to head through the park, purposefully taking the longest route home that she could.
