The run rose over the hilltops that day, as beautiful as any other, sunlight spilling out over the forest and into the homes and farms of the village of South Haven. Numerous roosters called out to the sun, awaking those that had not already gotten out of bed to start the day. Of course many of the farmers and their families were already out of bed, hard at work to keep their farms going and their families fed. Living in a farming community like wasn't an easy life, but it was peaceful and very rewarding.
South Haven was an ideal community for any man wanting to settle down and raise a family, nestled over the hill that kept it somewhat isolated from the rest of the kingdom and out of the way of its problems. Most of the people there were happy and content to work during the day and rest during the night, celebrating their peaceful lives. Of course, not everyone loved how peaceful and, in their minds, boring the town could get...
"Morning Samuel," a blacksmith called out to his friend as he pounded his latest work over his anvil. We wiped the sweat from his brow and gave the farmer a smile, "how goes it?"
Samuel, farmer by trade, gave the man a nod. "Good, save for my sheep as, well..."
"Ah, the blacksmith nodded, "you mean not all's well with your sheep herder. That daughter of yours..."
"Ah..." the farmer sighed at the thought. "She's young, and her antics will soon bite back at her, you have my word. Then she'll come around and stop this foolishness..."
The two men where both referring to Samuele's daughter who was even now watching over the sheep at the top of the hill overlooking the village. It was quite a ways up and away, so the farmers needed someone young like that to watch over them. Of course, she proved to be a bit...unenthusiastic about just sitting there all day.
