It was getting dark out and the forest was in a busy state that was rare for the quiet forest. There were the sounds of barking dogs and a soft found of running feet from a small girl who looked young wrapped in a red sateen sheet. She was running as fast as she could from the dogs chancing her but it was not getting her far for her bear feet capt catching on sharp sticks and roots on the forest floor.

Her old master was not going to let her go so easily he would get her back or so he thought. As long as she stayed in his forest his dogs would chance her and bring her home. The bad thing for her master was that the mouse was heading straight for the end of the forest. Soon the young mouse demon ran right into someone else in the forest and it made her fall backwards as she looked up at the figure that seemed to almost be a wall in her way. She noticed he was human and let out a small squeak before running the other way.

As she ran away from the human she halted as she saw the dogs closing in. Nena was stuck between going back to her master and being punished or going to the human with hopes that he would help her. After a second of thought she turned to the human and ran over to him only to hide behind him.

______________________________________

Alexander was just relaxing on a limb of a tree. He was suppose to get firewood since it would be a cold couple of weeks ahead. He had his ax for chopping and his shotgun for protection. Time drifted as he slept on that limb. His eyes soon opened as he herd the sounds of dogs barking. The noise distraced him so much that he fell out of the tree. Shaking his head, he tried to figure out what was going on. He turned around and as accidently knocked over by someone. It was a girl...with mouse ears. He looked at her strangely before she stood up and ran away. "Wait..." he said, but it was too late. She was gone.

Dusting himself off, Alex grabbed a hold of his two items and walked after her. To his suprise, he sees her running back to him again, but this time she was hiding behind him. Why was she so scared ran through his mind and the answer soon came. Three demon dag appeared growling and glaring at him and their traget. He grabbed his shot gun and shot at their feet. "Be off with you!" he shots and fires another shot.He did know what he was doing, all he knew was that he wanted to protect her since she was so scared.

One of the dogs growled then turned into his human form. "Give us the girl human she is our masters property we will bring her home one way or another if we have to kill you we will." His deep voice said then he glared at the hiding mouse girl. The dogs were persistent and they were starting to spread out to surround the human in there way.

Nena was shaking in fear then she softly said "Dally don't hurt him let me go. I don't wanna go back to master." She cried out to the dog who was talking to Alexander. She was so scared that she was starting to have trouble standing not to mention the running had hurt her bare feet so bad there were cuts on them.

"Make me dog-freak" Alexander told him. He looked at the poor mouse girl and nod his head as she spoke. "Don't worry, I'll protect you" he told her. One of the dogs tried to attck, but he hit's him with the blade end of his ax, injuring him badly. Holding on to the items, he place the girl on his back and ran for it. He herd the sounds of barking as they continued to give chase. He sighed knowing he should've got another gun for extra protection. He brgan running in a zig-zag pattern to confuse those demon dog. Hopefully, it'll work as he saw the town.

He knew the town like it was the back of his hand, so he knew where all the best hiding spots were. Think Alex...think...Aha!" he thought seeing the church. He ran there and entered through a secret door. Now out of sight from them he. gently place the mouse girl down on the side of the wall and looked at her. "Are you okay?" was all he asked.

The dog demon did not like how this was going and when one of his fellow dogs got hurt and Alexander took Nena away from them they fallowed as fast as they could. The dogs did not want to fail there master in getting back their masters favorite little sex toy.

Nena let out a squeak as she was picked up and put on the humans back. She did not like this at all being off the ground on a human and being chased by dogs was not her kind of fun but she was not about to complain since they were getting away from them. When they seemed to be safe in a church and Nena was put down she quickly moved away from him and looked around in a panic. She new she was not safe there. Nena new that the dogs would find her again and they would not leave the town till they did. She looked at Alexander when he spoke to her then nodded slowly.

He looked outside and see that the dogs were at a lost. They knew that they lost her to that human was would be unished for failing. He sighed seeing them retreat like that. then he looked back a the mouse girl nodding. He saw the space between them and sighed. By the looks of things, she in fear for her life.

"Relax...it's okay. The mutts have retreated and you're in good hands now." he said. he walks up to her and kneeled before her since he was taller. "My name is Alexander, but my friends call me Alex. Do you have a name? Why were they after you?" he said to her. He looks in her eyes and could easily see the fear in her. "No need to be afraid. I won't harm you." he assured her.

The dogs were searching the town slowly for Nena but since they were demon dogs they were not going near the church. They also did not think she would be there anyways so why go near it. Soon they were getting feed up with not finding her so they headed back tot the forest to figure out a plan.

Nena backed up away from Alexander when he moved closer to her and kneeled down. When he started to talk she listened then said "Nena" After a minute she answered his other question. "There after me because Master sent them to bring me back.. i ran away." When Alexander said he would nto hurt her that confused her so she said "But your human. humans hate mice."

He looked at her for a few moments and could eaisly see the fear in her eyes. She was lost, alone, scared; basically she coulnd't trust anyone. "Nena is it? Well Nena, I'm glad I rescued you from them." he told her with a smile. When she told him that humans hate mice, he couldn't help but chuckle. "Not all humans hate mice. I actually don't mind them." he tells her.

He stood up and herd a faint noise. He turns to hear that it was from Nena. "Are you hungry?" he asked. Before she could answer though, he rushed over to the church's kitchen. There was plenty to eat for the two of them, including cheese. He grabbed a few of them and returned to her.

Nena held the sateen sheet around her body tighter as she watched Alexander talk and seem friendly. she was not sure if she should trust his friendly act she was not use to suck kindness so it made her uneasy and it made her doubt him even more.

When her stomach growled she blushed and nodded shyly as she watched Alexander leave her. She was not sure if he was coming back and when he did it made her smile a little.

"Okay, let's see...we have some meat, bread, milk, eggs, and cheese. This should do very nicely." he chuckled. The only thing he could see to make was a couple of snadwiches. He had more food at his house but with those damn dogs outside, this would have to do.

He starts making the sandwiches, one for her and another for him. Once done, he offers it to her. It soon strucked him that she was also part mice, so he gives her the the whole cheese wheel as well. "Here you go Nena, eat up" he said with a smile. He took a bite of his food as he looks outside. He needed to transport her back to his house. There she'd be even safer.

Nena's stomach growled more when she saw the food. This made her move closer to the human since she was hungry. Well Alexander made the sandwiches she looked out the window and noticed there was a lot of humans walking around. She then looked back at him just as he finished making the food.

Nena smiled and took the food and started to eat it. Once the sandwich was done she started to happily eat the cheese like she had not had it in a long time. She was taking small bites slowly eating it savoring every bite. "Thank you" She said softly.

Alexander chuckled as she thank her. "It's no problem, helping people is what I do." He tells her. His job at the village was a carpenter and a deliverer. He often gets the job done, well most of the time unless something catches his eyes. Needless to say, a mouse girl who looks banged up and being chased by demon dogs instead of demon cats (I know, bad joke) really caught his eyes.

As she ate, he began to look around around for something to hide her idenity. She was right about one thing, humans in this village hate mice, espically the one that look human. Now with the dogs still out there, he'll need to be extra careful. Me made a silent prayer, pray to God for forgiveness for taking some things from the church and grabbed a colorful dress and a black hooded cloak. He returns to Nena whing the clothing. "Once you're done, put these on. We'll be heading to my place where you can be safer." he tells her.

Nena kept eating the cheese savoring every bite till it was gone she then slipped into the clothes that she was given. Nena then looked to Alexander and asked "Are you sure this is a good idea there are so many humans and the dogs and i think i saw some cats out there." She was scared and she did not feel safe leaving the building this place seemed safe since the demon dogs did not get to her well she was in there but leaving scared her there were to many predators out there.

"Trust me. I know a thing or two about demon dogs and I know what they avoid. They wouldn't dare look around my house." he said. "What ever you do, don't let go of my arm, You can squeeze it as hard as you like, but just don't let go." he advised her. With her dress and cloak on, he opened the passage door out of the church. He looked around and and began the transport her to his hime.

He ran into to people who liked to see him. When they asked him how was the person in the cloak clinging to his arm, he simply replied. "This is my cousin from another village. Forgive her, she's super shy." The people nod and said hello, not realizing they were saying hello to a mouse girl.

A few feet away were the demon dogs. "This way." he whispered to her. They and hid behind houses and barrels, inching their way to his home. "Ah, we made it" he smiled. He points to the door and shows her a religious cross. There was one on each door of his house. "Demon dogs hate religious things. Why do you think we hid in the church?" he said and smiled. He opens the door and lets her in.

Nena took a deep breath and held onto Alexander as they left the church. she was not sure she trusted him but she had no one else to go to for help so she was stuck ether hiding alone and scared or being with him and trying to trust that he would not hurt her.

As they walked she would squeeze his arm when people walked to close to her and when they stopped and talked for a moment she clung even more and hide her face some scared that they would hurt her. When they left the humans and dodged the demon dogs that were trying to fallow her sent through all the human sents she got scared more since she thought they were going to get caught.

Nena looked at the cross and then went onto the house with him. She new that the crosses would keep the dogs at bay but they would find her smell around the house and then wait for her to leave so now she just felt caged.

"Welcome to your new home" he said and smiled. Alex looked at her and notice her still sad face. "Come on, cheer up. Nena, I will protect you no matter what. I never go back on my word." he told her. He gives her a tour around his place. The first floor was the living room, kitchen, den, and his workshop. The second florr has the bathroom and two bed rooms.

"And here's your room." he tells her. it was a nice coszy room with a big bed, a table and chair, and a bookshelf with some books. "You're not a prisoner here. You can roam around here if you wish." tells her. he goes to his room to get some extra blankets for her. He looks out the window and sees those dogs are near. "You won't get her, you bastards." he quietly muttered.

Nena did not like how this was turning out to her this was not her home it was a cage because though she could go anywhere in the house she could not leave it or the demon dogs would get her and that just made this a very big cage.

Nena looked at the room and smiled. It was nicer then her room at her masters but her master didn't care how she lived he just cared about what he got out of it. Nena walked into her room and went to the book shelf and looked at the books as Alex got the blankets.

The demon dogs were sniffing near the house but none got to close they hated the crosses. The leader dog looked up at the window to see Alex and he growled before walking away to try to find a way in.

Alex sighed to himself. He wanted her to be happy, but thanks to those dogs, safety was the only thing he could give her. Glaring as the top demon dog went away, he decided to help Nena out with her trust problem first.

Returning with some warm blankets and goes to her and smiles. "I bought those books to relex myself. Would you like to read one?" he asked her. He got a couple of book off the shelf. and showed them to her. "If you want I can read some to you." He replied.

Nena looked at Alex then said in a soft voice "I never learned to read through the years the demon dogs tried to teach me what they could but master didn't like it." She new some basic words when she looked at them but for the most part she could not read there was no point in teaching her when she was with her master since she was just used for sex.

"Poor giirl, her life must've been hell." he thought. He sat beside her and took one of the books. "Just relax Nena, and listen." was all Alex said to her. He opened the book and began to readd to her. It was a story of people helping others. It was his favorite book, because he often drempt about being a hero and saving some one. Once done, he puts the book down and looks at her. "If you want, I can help you." he replied.

Nena sat on the bed and listened to the story read to her she liked it though in her mind this was a fairy tale since people rarely helped others thought Alex seemed to be different but she still did not trust him not yet anyways. She did not want to trust him just to end up hurt by him. "Help me read? but why?" She asked not seeing how this benefited him though none of this seemed to.

"Why? No reason. I just want to help you read that's all. I don't anything in return." he told her. "Besides, everyone should know how to read." he added and put up the book. He wanted her to trust him so that she could really feel safe. He wasn't gonna hurt her in any way, shape, or form. It was just the kind of guy he was.

"Can you teach me later. Im a little tired i ran really far before i ran into you." She smiled up at him although she still did not trust him but she was happy to have someone be nice to her. At the moment she just wanted to rest and have some time where she felt safe before the demon dogs got to her or a human got to her.

He nod is head and tucks her in bed. "Rest up then Nena. I'll see you in the morning." he said and gently pet her. He head out of then room and looked up. He wanted to be a hero, and now he has the chance to. he suddenly herd a growl and turns around. It was a demon dog in his house. "What the Hell?" he said, but soon remembered that he didn't have a cross on the door to the basement. The dog kicked him stright through the door of Nena room and he saw her.

Nena smiled and closed her eyes as she laid in bed but when she heard the growling she sat up and looked around just in time to see the demon dog and the door broken with Alex on the ground. The demon dog changed human and picked Nena up then then ran out of the room with her kicking and screaming trying to get away. The demon was heading back tot eh basement with Nena. "Nena Master wants you back and thats where your going its your home and you know it. this human will let you go just watch now that you have become to much work to keep." The dog said.
