"Miss?"
The knock at the library door did more to rouse the woman from her daydreams than the sensual voice that called to her did. Juliet sighed softly, removing the thin-framed reading glasses that she wore, and rubbed her eyes before she moved to stand. "Come in, Rosetta. Have the kits gotten into trouble again?"
The door opened, revealing the slender and rather exotic young woman who stood behind. Hair so black that it seemed just a deep shade of blue framed a heart-shaped face, and fell with no restraint to the small of her back. Her skin was a light cocoa, and her almond eyes were a rare golden-brown, framed by thick lashes. "No, ma'am. They've been perfect darlings for the entire day." Her hands, sheathed in short black fur that matched her hair and gave the impression of velvet gloves, brushed at the modest maid garments she wore. "You have a package. A... crate."
"Cra - ... oh! Gods above, they didn't crate the poor thing, did they?" All interest in her books and papers gone, Juliet was quick to leave the room. Her pale skin almost glowed with sudden eagerness, a blush of pink across her high cheekbones and delicate nose. It took all the willpower she had not to snatch the sealed envelope that appeared in Rosetta's hands, her lips quirked in amusement at the curious look that showed not just in her eyes, but from the top of her fluffy, twitching ears, to the gentle sweep of the luxuriously furred tail she bore. Her little Rosetta. "Come with me. We have a new friend to welcome. The room is already prepared?"
The feline woman moved into step behind the human, her clawed fingers counting out as she spoke. "Yes, miss. The room has been prepared, the bath clean, and all of the linens changed. The cook has checked for all possible things involving meat that might be enjoyed, and has been instructed to have it prepared often." Rosetta grinned, almost seeming to skip in order to catch up to her wine-haired mistress.
"Good, good." Juliet's attention was on the letter she had pulled from the envelope, her lips moving in time as she read:
"Miss Terra,
Thank you for purchasing your wolf from us! We know that you'll be ecstatic to find that he's very healthy, and in great shape! You've purchased our Premium Quality grade of pet! You'll be glad to know that with this grade of pet, he'll be the peak of his species! You've also selected that he be a male and used typically for breeding and light work. With your selections, your wolf will require certain special care. He will need to be fed meats at least once a day and mated at least once a day, more being preferential to keeping a stable mood.
We know that you'll be one hundred percent satisfied with your purchase! If there's anything more that we can do, please enjoy your wolf, named 'Adell'.
Please note after delivery there are no refunds.
Best regards,
Pet Genetics Plus!"
Folding the letter, she handed it to Rosetta as they approached the entryway of the large and sprawling manor, a deep breath taken as her own emerald eyes fell on the box. "That's a large crate." Now, her eagerness began to give way to something else, a fear she knew and hated. 'Not this time. It will be different, this time.' The mantra repeated itself in her mind, her full lips set in a determined line as she approached the crate.
She knew nothing of what lingered within, except for his name, his gender, and his purpose. All the things she had asked for. Everything else, she had left to chance. She had wanted a male larger than her own slender 5'10", but to choose his coloring and the rest would have delayed her by months, maybe even years. All of the options she had were beautiful, so she had made it clear that aside for the few things she determined, he was to be random. Unique.
Before the hated feeling of fear and denial could pull her away, she undid the locks from the large wooden crate, pulling the door open and remaining where she was, glancing in from where she could bend over the wooden door. "Adell?" She noted that Rosetta had moved behind her, ever cautious of the power of this fragile bonding moment. "Are you in there, or have they delivered me an empty box?" Juliet kept her voice a light tease, a playful tone meant to comfort if needed.
